For young people who have never entered into any form of courtship, this should be answered before considering him or her "boyfriend or girlfriend". Serious conditions should be well established. These terms like "boyfriend or girlfriend" sound like there is a committed and yet, not so committed. What I would suggest for young persons seeing an attentive heart towards him or her is a term that shows a form of not establishing anything more than a simple friend.

@@Joaquinalonsomedina Friendship is the first step to a knowledge of a committed condition towards Sacrament of Marriage. What is friendship if not towards the highest condition of eternal happiness. Does this person meet friendship at a level of Sacrament?
For example, your entrance into the Church will differ for every person's pilgrimage towards Eternal Life. If you found yourself coming in relationship with someone on a different path, this may delay your vocation discernment. If you are providentially living your baptismal consecration, the Holy Spirit and the Indwelling of the Holy Trinity will determine the direction.
Your baptismal consecration and the constancy of your daily living will destine you to the eternity of relationship. A natural timeline would be a personal condition from the baptismal consecration.
