Here is the best advice I got on vocations: if considering the priesthood, do you think you would like to hear confessions and say Mass? Do you like to serve Mass? If not, then one probably does not have the vocation. So, do you like doing the things associated with the vocation? It seems utterly obvious, but it actually isn't.

I’ve been struggling with my vocation for 11 or 12 years. I really want to get married, but I feel like God is playing one big joke on me and that by the time I know my vocation it will be too late. Every time I think it’s supposed to be marriage, a seed of doubt is planted in me. I’ve been on retreats and have prayed about it. The only thing I haven’t done is having ongoing conversations with my own spiritual director. When I tried to find one, my parish priest was suggested, but I’d really rather have this conversation with a woman just like a man is probably more comfortable with a man. They said they would get back to me but never did. Other women understand other women’s struggles. I don’t know how to know once and for all. My biological clock is ticking. What if trying to discern my vocation is going to be the thing that keeps me from ever having children? I feel like by the time I figure this out and my vocation is marriage, I’ll be old and unattractive, and no decent man my age will want me. I can’t be the only person who has this struggle.

Would highly recommend a spiritual director, even if you may have to travel a bit to get to them. A priest would be best but not a must, someone who you can open up to and is holy themselves.
Discerning religious life is scary as you are putting your whole life and future on stake. Trusting in the Lord’s plans for you (He has only the best for you because only He knows you best, as your Creator) is key. I think you can’t really tell if something is for you or not until you experience it- after discussing with your spiritual director, if he recommends it, then take a leap of faith, telling the Lord that you are doing this for Him and not yourself.
If religious life is not your vocation, God will take you out of it for the sake of your true vocation, as long as you remain receptive - He knows your biological clock more than anyone else. And your time in the convent will most certainly not be wasted- it will only make you a better wife / woman and will give you the confidence and peace that you have at least a gave it a hard shot. Nothing is impossible to God. He sees you and only wants you to surrender to Him for your greater happiness.
      You are in my prayers!!

Honestly I've found nothing beautiful in solitude life in monastery or inside stuff like that, I've really feeled much more peace in the world, but without being of the world, in doing prayers and take Sacraments, than in seminary or religious monstery, there's no happiness at all in chastity, be poor without nothing and closed on solitude, also I've found the opposite of realization in life, in helping others etc etc prayers are consolations but I've found only pain in what you call, beauty of religious life.

Great sermon. The only thing I did not agree with was the part that said that young people should not share with their parents their intentions to pursue a religious life. I believe that parents should be involved in every important aspect of their children’s lives. If parents cannot handle that responsibility well, it is their problem because as parents, we must support and encourage our children’s decisions without interference.

"Religious orders are the most superior vocation, we are all obligated to first discern whether we are called to this." Does it ever sound life Fr. Ripperger just makes things up as he goes along? This really bothers me. So many of his videos are like this, giving the impression of church teaching when it's his opinion.

This life is so short, and -- as Saint Paul says -- the sorrows of married life raising children in today's world are very real. On the other hand, the incredible joy and liberty which come from belonging totally to God can never be compared to human love, and is the more beautiful vocation if God is calling you to it.
*You need to go on a retreat.* Because as long as you continue in the company of your girlfriend the attachment will so blind you that you will not be able to discern clearly whether God is calling you to religious life. I'll pray for you.

    • @eduardoschiavon5652

If that's the case I think you should not go to the monastery just yet. Nowadays the idea of vocation is quite badly explained. Many people think that it amounts to having an almost romantic attraction to that specific state of life. That's not very in line with the tradition of the Church, however. In other times, men looked at a religious life mostly as an objective choice they made assuming that the grace of God was working within them. It is a safer path to a vocation, one that is objectively deliberated, than one that is subjectively determined, based largely on emotions.
Having said that, once we have an initial disposition for a consecrated life, we must conform our actions to that. It is reasonable to say that a man that will have to live a chaste life once he becomes a religious, should already be detached from things that lead him away from that before entering the congregation. Moreover, if one doesn't have an intent of marrying, one should not enter in a relationship with a woman, so that both the will of becoming a religious is preserved and so that we don't harm the other with false promises. Any romantic relationship should always have its goal to culminate in married life, otherwise it shouldn't have been started.
Above all, I recommend you to seriously deliberate this with a priest, especially your spiritual director, since he will be able to give you much better advice. I also recommend you to read Father Lahitton's book on the priestly vocation.
