The way shuro is animated fascinates me. You mentioned it briefly, but the more serious lighting and detail they give him makes him feel like he's part of the world, but from a different show, one more serious and grounded. It's like he's from a gritty survival anime who walked into the Saturday morning world of Laios. It's a really nice way to show the contrasting world views of the two.
It really helps emphasize his desperation. We know very little about him other than that he loves Falin, and yet we get to understand so much of his character just from how he's drawn. It also helps make his anger and discomfort with Laios feel more justifiable. Kabru pretending to be interested hurt so much when reading. Laios can’t read social cues, wants to see the best in everyone, and he himself would never pretend like that (autistic people have a very hard being “fake” which comes off to others as mean spirited) so he’d never even conceive that he was being lied to or led on. And Kabru misinterprets Laios as an uncaring bastard man who uses dark magic to gain power and money and doesn’t consider the well-being of others. This is only enhanced when Laios expresses his genuine care in a way that feels surface level and empty (trying to get Shuro to eat well) but in Laios’ mind expressing the need to make sure Shuro is healthy enough to help is his way of saying “I’m being supportive of all your goals and your feelings look at how much I care! It’s a lot!”
It may be because I'm in the spectrum myself, but reading the manga and watching the show I never understood why people misinterpret him so much all the time! He is constantly showing that he cares. Sure, he's a little weird and he gets carried away by his interest in monsters, but he's very kind!
That could be because Kabru is a sociopath. He can't understand a person's genuine want to help others for nothing in return, so he interprets it as something more sinister, something HE would do

I appreciate these videos for a few reasons, part of it being that I've finally decided to start drawing again, but also because you release them at the perfect time each week, being right in between episodes where anyone obsessing over the show will be starting to enter withdrawals. After discovering this series before this episode dropped, my first thought after watching episode 16 wasn't "I cant wait for the next episode" like it usually is but instead "I can't wait for Swamp Jawn's breakdown". Once I get paid if I have some money to spare I reckon I'll have to check out the patreon!
There were a few good Kabru internal monologue moments cut from this episode (i.e him staring at Laois wide eyed and friendly, thinking ‘man this guy sucks at lying’ that I’m a little disappointed were cut out because they really highlight the amount of calculating BS going on in this weirdo’s head at any given time. Still, I get how a bunch of internal monologue doesn’t translate to tv as well
A question regarding the pacing: which chapter do you think this first season of the show will reach? 'cause it's 24 episodes in total, so I don't think they will manage to reach chapter 55 (which could have been a somewhat decent moment to put the story on hold before the inevitable second and final season).
The trailer for the second cour included dialogue that seems to be from a moment in chapter 52, so at minimum we would be reaching that far if those trailer lines aren’t just filler. If it goes further than that is very plausible, but it’s hard to say just how far. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweak some things for the last episode to have it feel more natural of a season ender.
I freakin' LOVE your stuff, Jawn. I look forward to these videos almost as much as each new episode of Dunmeshi. I assume you've covered this in a video before, but how do you do the drawing effect on the green outlines you use to break down shots? Is it just a time-lapse of you tracing over the frame by hand, or do you have some special tool?
I don't wanna spoil you, but there's one thing I can say - Kabru has some super fun thought bubbles later on in the manga, and those are gonna be funny in the anime too, probably!
Ah, the weekly dose of overanalyzing fluid animation. I wholeheartedly agree that they are building up on what's to come by rearranging manga panels. Most of the times it works wonderfully. Looking forward to the next episode and review ✌🏼
For some reason anime Benichidori has a long ponytail instead of shorter hair as she did in the manga, I'm guessing it was an oversight by the animators
One thing I don't get is why they lengthened Benichidori's hair, perplexing... I do have to wonder if the anime woul have fared better leaving less of Falin visible in that last shot, but god was the music striking... Can't wait for next week either! Unrelated but also I wanted to add I'm glad patreon got a good start :)
So the decision to include panty shots of Senshi is likely tied to whether the scenario calls for humor or not. As annoying as this fact is, upskirting a middle aged dwarf man is always being treated as a gag by the animators. My guess is the artists include it/add the upskirting depending on whether they want to lighten the action of the scene or not. If they had included it during the first confrontation with Kabru's party, it might trivialize their first meeting.
Just a anime viewer only. Man. Kabru annoys the fuck out of me. But I've seen fans get mad hyped about him so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Yeah yeah I get it he's a mirror of Laios. Laios at least had a fun first impression. Kabru was just meh to me when he showed up. So maybe my brain just isn't interested because of that first impression.
Is it just me or does Delicious in Dungeon have more than normal amount of those static panning shots of stills? Or am I just overanalyzing? I feel like getting a bit of a feeling of drop in quality in the anime when it becomes contrasted with the amazing sakuga in places. I just hoped for a tiny bit more dynamicity in places I guess.

Ah, the weekly dose of overanalyzing fluid animation. I wholeheartedly agree that they are building up on what's to come by rearranging manga panels. Most of the times it works wonderfully. Looking forward to the next episode and review ✌🏼
Thanks for this.
Jawn! No comment(s) on Izutsumis voice reveal!? Shame! /j As usual, an amazing breakdown!
I'm kinda trying to keep Izutsumi on the down-low for now for the anime-onlys ;)
@@swampjawn Ahahaha! Fair enough!
can't wait to see izutsumi
Why is kabru giving sukura energy with the pretending not to be a psychopath thing💀
For some reason anime Benichidori has a long ponytail instead of shorter hair as she did in the manga, I'm guessing it was an oversight by the animators
Love the oxy demon!
4:12 My disappointment is immeasurable
my day is ruined
One thing I don't get is why they lengthened Benichidori's hair, perplexing...
I do have to wonder if the anime woul have fared better leaving less of Falin visible in that last shot, but god was the music striking...
Can't wait for next week either!
Unrelated but also I wanted to add I'm glad patreon got a good start :)
Im still mad at Liaos how could he reveal my girls secret like that
Nice
I hope they don't remove Laios misremembering Kabru's name in the next episode.
5:25 pffff
So the decision to include panty shots of Senshi is likely tied to whether the scenario calls for humor or not. As annoying as this fact is, upskirting a middle aged dwarf man is always being treated as a gag by the animators. My guess is the artists include it/add the upskirting depending on whether they want to lighten the action of the scene or not. If they had included it during the first confrontation with Kabru's party, it might trivialize their first meeting.
where is ep 17?
out now!
Laios is for shor an rope bunny
kabru please PLEASE get brown contacts 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think the big ears thing might be an in world cultures thing where they think big ears mean youre smarter
I only see the show tho
Watch the spanish dub
They’re definitely saving for next episode
It’s gonna be crazy- like episode 11 all over again but even better
@@LunarJaguar Hoping so, so much amazing material and emotional beats upcoming!
