Absolutely fantastic, when comedy was great.

Yes, this really was the type of conversation from a million London working class terrace houses where the young ones continued to live with their parents and in laws in the 1960s and 70s. Alf is a very real character to me.. I met him in one form or other everyday of my childhood.

How marvellous to see this, how we all laughed in the 70s, we are all fair game in comedy as long as it is not in bad taste, I don't think anyone was insulted here, it was the humour of the period, we could all be young, old ,mother-in-laws, tyrannical father in laws, white, black, other ethnic origins ,working class (I am ) and here, The Queen Mum, with a very good sense of humour invited to laugh with ground breaking comedy and from leading writers of the day. Times have changed.

@@markharrison2544 You are right that kids in particular, along with some idiot adults do copy things they hear but that shows how stupid they are. If you watch 'Til Death do us part', Alf is always an idiot. He's inept and is obviously stupid. I think anyone who thinks anything Alf says is credible and copies it must be an idiot. He's a joke and the programme is meant to show that his opinions are ridiculous. In the last series, he got a home help who turned out to be black and gay.I thought it was hilarious. I would never call this programme sick. Its obviously anti-racist.

Worlds within worlds, a complex, layered theatrical event created by the remarkable Johnny Speight. The real-life theatre audience at the Royal Variety Performance eavesdrops on the Garnett family's reactions to an imaginary Royal Variety Performance on the telly. The satire is far-reaching, largely at the expense of Alf. Eat your heart out Gogglebox . . .
