I loved Rachel’s violin solo and vocals. Lovely track.

My feelings on this band as well. I stumbled upon them through Pandora.. The drummer Nick DiVirgilo is also of Spock's beard which is a band I have loved for years. BBT is probably on my all time top 5 band list.. If I had to choose only 5 bands to listen to they would be on that list for sure.

It’s rare that Rachel (fiddle) gets to shine so brightly, so I love this

So pleased you chose this live performance of a Big Big Train classic. This is a fans favourite and their live performance on the last UK tour brought the house down. To everyone that have just discovered them try The Underfall Yard album from 2009 onwards. Thank you for reviewing this and I enjoyed you enjoying it !,

Immaculate band - the bass player is founder Greg Spawton who also composes a lot of the compositions. Sadly singer David Longdon died tragically. So the band has seen a few personnel changes and lead singer is now Alberto Bravin ex PFM. I saw them live in Aylesbury a few weeks ago and still extraordinary. They are soon releasing a live set with this lineup at Lorelei and the sound quality is even better. I think their masterpiece is EAST COAST RACER particularly the live version in London.

Yep, that's real comfy music right there! Really enjoyed this enthusiastic analysis! I wouldn't categorise it as jazz-fusion of any kind though. Surely elements of jazz, but that's just an embellishment of many 😊

That’s the influence of the then keyboard player Danny Manners who came from and has returned to jazz.

Check out the new LIKES OF US by BIG BIG TRAIN - a fine new album. The new lineup is similarly equally vocally talented as well as playing multi instruments.

An album out 6 months ago. New tracks not on the album - Lanterna for example. A new album just announced for release in January. They're classed as prog BTW.

I case you missed it but singer David Longdon sadly passed away after an accident on early Friday morning.

Yeah... it's a huge loss for the world as he was quite a talented person.

Big Big Train are my favorite of the "retro prog" bands. If you remember they were actually my first special request (the song Victorian Brickwork) almost exactly a year ago. This song is from my favorite album of theirs, English Electric. Not my favorite track from the album, but it's still thoroughly excellent and just goes to show how high quality their work is, especially on English Electric. Pretty much every track from that album is at this level or even higher. Funnily enough I'm not even sure if this would've been my first pick from that album for "comfy music" week. A track like Leopards is one that just makes me sink into my chair, or even Keeper of Abbeys and Uncle Jack have this breeziness to them that's so easy on the ears.
They definitely added more singers (and musicians!) over time. BBT have been around since '94 and they've been through a few lineup changes, members coming and going, and others coming in later. TBH I don't think they got really good until The Underfall Yard in '09.

1994? Wow, I really would have guessed a bit older than that but I guess that's the point of the "retro prog" genre, sort of revitalizing prog with modern technology.

That’s my favourite retro prog I’ve heard too. Thanks for the album recommendation! I like how they are not trying to sound like yes or genesis... which a lot of retro prog feels like to me

Aww man was hoping you'd pick Boards of Canada as it tied for 3rd in the poll but will enjoy watching this regardless.

Somehow I overlooked that. Whenever we have a tie I roll dice in Discord to see which one gets the slot. We'll have to see about getting Boards of Canada on the channel again in the future.

I once took my girlfriend to a King Crimson concert. She hated it. Should've taken her to a BBT concert instead :-D
