The Kinks are sooo splendid! No one like Ray. The man is on another level of creativity and passion. Ray's face is perfect for B&W...so expressive, just right for the silent film era. Oh, he coulda been a star! :)
Ray Davies = Brilliant. Songwriter extraordinaire, prolific pop/rock creator to the max, along with Townshend, Simon, Lennon, Fogerty, McCartney, Wilson, and so on and so forth...
I love the Kinks’ videos- this one is obviously one of Ray’s productions. Sweet, funny, quirky, with ultimately a happy ending. Plus, the song is real gem. 👍👍👍👍
Ray, you take my breath away in this video...I love you! I make no apologies for my devotion ; few performers can hold a candle to the marvelous Ray Davies.
Always loved this tune/video and that it went unnoticed always rubbed me the wrong way. Alas, Francine Brody is incredibly beautiful and Thank You Kast Off Kinks for all the info on the video shoot. Also enjoy this abbreviated version over the LP one since the latter runs a little long. Everyone's a critic.
one of my later favs never seen.this is the short video version of the song the longer one has a kick ass guitar solo dave is so cool thanx for posting man
I was in the USN in the Philadelphia Shipyards in Spring '87. I remember the piece got considerable airplay then. But Downtown Julie Brown never played this video on MTV.
man that is good...thx so much for posting. I just spent the last week at Folly Beach SC....Irene was originally coming styr8 at us...we watched 12-14 ft waves building friday, knock9ing out peoples steps down to the beach. Ive had this song in my head all week...
I wood give my left big toe to see these guys. Been a fan since I first heard them in 64. So creative so influential S British So Damn Good. Please come To America, being yer Troups and play some concerts and promote some new Tunes youve got stashed and cant wait to release. Think the venues wood be some of the bigest ever and all yer loyal fans who have been waiting for so long for an anouncement would come to celebrate and enjoy
All of The Kinks albums have great songs, even their last albums (from 1986 on) that were not successful. Think Visual has some overlooked great songs like How Are You, Lost And Found, Rockn' Roll Cities, Natural Gift, etc
@krankiekat How right you are my friend. The Greatest Songwriter. Did you hear the story of a producer saying "What else do you have?" He wrote 29 songs in 26 hours!!
@DoctorFingers: Thank you, Dear Dr. Indeed, I have been quite well since emerging from my cryogenic slumber. Actually, I understand "The Artist" is quite wonderful. This video is truly lovely (one of my fav songs from "Think Visual"); had never seen it 'til you uploaded in '07; would love to see someone on YT post R.D.'s brilliant "80 Days" oeuvre (w/a flawless sound upload; video may have killed the average, radio listener, but, not I). Love & cheers to you; hope you and your family are well.
I saw this song performed on a Saturday morning kids' show years ago and could never find it in the shops. I was beginning to think I'd dreamt it but good old You Tube!
I wouldn’t go quite that far. Nor do I think they’re “underrated.” How ridiculous is that?? Ray was knighted back in 2016 with a CBE- how many other musical groups’ leaders were?? 😌
@DoctorFingers: Found the page; *great, comprehensive study*, Dr. Keep up the good work! Please convey my fondest of greetings to D."O" F. Much Love, "Mav" (i.e., everybody's fav micro-air vehicle)
I always thought it was about the fabled 1985 October hurricane that hit NYC! I had to board up all my windows and I remember part of 57th street near central park was closed because of falling glass! It was the greatest day of my life!
i remember this song when i was a kid my dad bought this tape in charity shop in 90s the album called Think Visual by The Kinks 1986 great album always got played in the car and its now a mystery because don't where that tape is :(
I remember it got considerable airplay in early spring 1987. I thought it should have been dusted off for Superstorm Sandy. Who could have imagined a hurricane reaching all the way up to NYC?
Shazam. Back in the day an ex-girlfriend and I thought that was Kate Bush in the video. Didn't take long to figure out we were wrong though. Did take the Kast-Off Kinks site however to find out your true identity. You star in one of the band's all-time best videos and so Thank You, Ms. Francine Brody.
I suppose it is possible, although he didn't mention it when we asked him about the inspiration. He did reference the 20s French epic Napoleon, as the influence for the film insert, though. (See the feature on the Kast Off Kinks website, under Interviews and Specials) - Geoff
If anything it is Ray adapting to the era but 'something Ric Ocasek would have done' isn't anything I think of when I see and hear this chestnut. And I like Ric Ocasek.
The Kinks are sooo splendid! No one like Ray. The man is on another level of creativity and passion. Ray's face is perfect for B&W...so expressive, just right for the silent film era. Oh, he coulda been a star! :)
One of my all time faves. Great song.
Saw them doing this in Albuquerque, Octobe 1987. Beautiful number.
Wow! I love this song since I was in high school. This is the best song Raymond Douglas has written in the 80's. Many thanks for posting it.
I understand that Ray directed the video.
He's incredible. Great song, great video!!
Solange es Menschen gibt die
solche Kunstwerke schaffen
Slarti
One of Ray Davies best songs. It should have been a big hit all over the world..
Ray Davies = Brilliant. Songwriter extraordinaire, prolific pop/rock creator to the max, along with Townshend, Simon, Lennon, Fogerty, McCartney, Wilson, and so on and so forth...
Thank you my friend, this is one of my favorites song
I love the Kinks’ videos- this one is obviously one of Ray’s productions. Sweet, funny, quirky, with ultimately a happy ending. Plus, the song is real gem. 👍👍👍👍
Still feel the same!! 😎😎😎
Ray, you take my breath away in this video...I love you! I make no apologies for my devotion ; few performers can hold a candle to the marvelous Ray Davies.
absolute classic!!!!!!!!!Dave is an amazing lead player!!!!

Wonderful song! Easy Music but so good!
Ohh, I love TH-cam for letting me find things like this - 5 stars!
Thanks for posting these post-Arista videos. An underrated time period of a severely underrated band.
one of my later favs never seen.this is the short video version of the song the longer one has a kick ass guitar solo dave is so cool thanx for posting man
I was in the USN in the Philadelphia Shipyards in Spring '87. I remember the piece got considerable airplay then. But Downtown Julie Brown never played this video on MTV.
a sweet and lovely song. thanks.
QUE PEDAZO DE TEMA POR FAVOR ...!! BUENISIMO ME ENCANTA CADA VEZ QUE LO ESCUCHO ME TRANSPORTA EN EL TIEMPO.
man that is good...thx so much for posting. I just spent the last week at Folly Beach SC....Irene was originally coming styr8 at us...we watched 12-14 ft waves building friday, knock9ing out peoples steps down to the beach. Ive had this song in my head all week...
Awesome song ! We are in he middle of hurricane Irene right now in Raleigh, NC. I posted this for my friends in NY, who are waiting.
This song is superb.... 5 stars Ray!
Oh! Forgot mention bass voice🤩 this video is an amazing piece of art!

Great :) and wonderful acting
Love this song, best song they did from the 80s
What a great video! I love the silent film mugging by Davies. Thx for posting!
The Kinks are ASTONISHING.
wow this is gold, lost and found video!!!
just shows their genius. able to adapt through 3 decades of music
Anything the Kinks do is great!!!!
All of The Kinks albums have great songs, even their last albums (from 1986 on) that were not successful. Think Visual has some overlooked great songs like How Are You, Lost And Found, Rockn' Roll Cities, Natural Gift, etc
Natural Gift in and honest world would have been a hit song!
The album is so underrated
Agree great song!
Natural gift fantastic song
great song...thanks for uploading the video, since it is rare to view it
great song. It also appears live on the album named "The Road". great version
I love this song
@krankiekat
How right you are my friend. The Greatest Songwriter. Did you hear the story of a producer saying "What else do you have?" He wrote 29 songs in 26 hours!!
Best Kinks song of the 80th

That was superb! I never knew it existed until I saw it mentioned in the wikipedia article about the song.

A wonderful song
Wow, you're amazing DoctorFingers! Thank you for uploading some obscure yet awesome Kinks videos. =]
I saw this played on MTV and VH1 all the time back then.
kinks great song as usual sensational
Masterpiece!
I saw this song performed on a Saturday morning kids' show years ago and could never find it in the shops. I was beginning to think I'd dreamt it but good old You Tube!
It's a wonderful music video. Thank you, DoctorFingers. Thanks Kinks.
a genius in rock music, this generation has lost a lot for failure to discover his talent in music composition
I wouldn’t go quite that far. Nor do I think they’re “underrated.” How ridiculous is that?? Ray was knighted back in 2016 with a CBE- how many other musical groups’ leaders were?? 😌
love the kinks; love this song!
What great lyrics....as Irene eyes the east coast!!!!!
beautiful, now i'm going to cry.
Watching in 2022. Takes me way back in time...❤️
MAGNIFICENT!
Dieses Video ist so genial - Lost & Found. Absolutely underrated
great album "think visual" , I like too "when we are child" from this work.
. . Gracias

GREAT SONG!
God save the Kinks!
@DoctorFingers: Found the page; *great, comprehensive study*, Dr. Keep up the good work! Please convey my fondest of greetings to D."O" F. Much Love, "Mav" (i.e., everybody's fav micro-air vehicle)
What makes this rare but good studio version better than the concert version is the carribean drums, violins and the 1776 background.
Wasn't this on the Think Visual album?
cool video, had not seen this yet
This beats "The Artist," any day.
I always thought it was about the fabled 1985 October hurricane that hit NYC! I had to board up all my windows and I remember part of 57th street near central park was closed because of falling glass! It was the greatest day of my life!
Yay!
@Mavarla Many thanks Mav. Glad you liked it
- Geoff xx
thanks for share!! 100% Feeling!!
Kinks por siempre!
i remember this song when i was a kid my dad bought this tape in charity shop in 90s the album called Think Visual by The Kinks 1986 great album always got played in the car and its now a mystery because don't where that tape is :(
It's too bad no one thought to dust this off for Superstorm Sandy. It would have been a perfect theme.
ich liebe ray davis seit 50 jahren.
The stage lost a great actor when Ray Davies chose a musical career. Lucky for us!
I remember it got considerable airplay in early spring 1987. I thought it should have been dusted off for Superstorm Sandy.
Who could have imagined a hurricane reaching all the way up to NYC?
R.I.P. Jim Rodford.
Isn't that Francine Brody??
Oh yes, so it is! Well spotted, Susan
- Geoff
lyrics : Allemachtig groots
Ray Davies and Francine Brody. If you go to Kastoffkinks dot co dot uk and click on Interviews and Specials, you can find out all about it.
Los fabulosos The Kinks!..
"Think Visual"
It is also on the compilation called "Lost & Found (1986-89)"
Excellent album, CD etc. cover.
is it "the look of love" by ABC the song that pops up in the last second?
@quadrophenia0901 It's also played live on the album "The Road"
I wonder if Ray got the inspiration for the video from Woody Allen's Purple Rose of Cairo, which came out in 1985.
I suppose it is possible, although he didn't mention it when we asked him about the inspiration. He did reference the 20s French epic Napoleon, as the influence for the film insert, though. (See the feature on the Kast Off Kinks website, under Interviews and Specials)
- Geoff
DoctorFingers Thanks! I think there was also a Buster Keaton film from the 20s that did this.
I removed your previous entry, Frank - I assume it was a typo
- Geoff
This songs sounds like something Ric O'Casek would have done back then too. Great tune!
If anything it is Ray adapting to the era but 'something Ric Ocasek would have done' isn't anything I think of when I see and hear this chestnut. And I like Ric Ocasek.
@Mavarla I haven't seen " The Artist" but I am sure you are right.
Hope you are well
- Geoff
