We welded a jig that bolts to the spindle and has a pipe that's centered over the kingpin and we drive it out with a sledgehammer. Works great for this job.
Best video I've seen on TH-cam in a long time. King Pins are never fun. You make it look easy!

YardpigTSI Repair king pin is fun, use big hammer make work is easily for lower price. But when you have more money, you can buy king pin press tool (Tiger tool king pin press), don’t use hydraulic this make your work hard and waste much times like this video.
It's amazing how smart some people are on here . You'll spend a couple hundred dollars on pins and bushings and not twenty dollars for grease and a bottle jack .
Awesome, I couldn't imagine how you were going to break 2 20-ton bottle jacks. I was imagining jacking up the truck; but how do you break a 20-ton jack doing that? And I was impressed with that jig you made to remove the king pin. Also, whoever edited this has mad skills!
Many people ignore!!! That why grease nipples are given to lubricate such moving parts like: king pins, tie rod ends, leaf springs, propeller shaft center bush & shaft cross. It's better to greasing all given grease nipples after every 5000Km.
а регулировочные шайбы между серьгой балки и цапфы,и уплотнительные манжеты с внутренних серёг цапфы,чтобы во втулки грязь не попадала,что не надо ставить?
@ 14:40 Thou shalt not heat up the cast iron I-beam or steering knuckle! You also fail to measure your axle (I-beam) bore for out of round ! If it's out of round, then you need to bore it out and sleeve it back to size or your king pins will have short life.
Use channel instead of angle iron, weld the horizontal top and bottom pieces inside the vertical pieces so they will be stronger. We had a kingpin pressed out of a 1978 Ford F250 pickup. We had to remove the I-beam out of the truck and take it to a shop where they pressed it out. How much pressure? 27 tons.
Oh yes. Without removing a hub you will not be able to remove the shield around and you won't be able to work. And it is one of the easiest part to remove the hub.
Don’t use a wrench on a square head. You will strip it. Use either an actual square socket or a 12-point socket. On a second thought, you can use a wrench, but the other way around where it has a 12-point. The problem, though, will be lack of leverage. I’d definitely go with a socket and a breaker bar. They do sell ratchet breaker bars for a quicker job. I’ve seen some people use an impact wrench on that tool, but I don’t know if the manual says it’s okay or not. Some also say you should lubricate the threads to make the tool last longer.
If someone follows this guys instructions he could get them hurt this is the kind of you tuber you don't need been there done that buy the right tools this guys a mechanic come on
Depends! The make of the truck ( MAN, DAF , Volvo , Scania) or if it is a truck or a trailer steering axle etc. ... most of them are well known and they have a different type of difficulty grade. But they are already timed. In Europe it is calculated between 3 to 6 hours per kingpin on a head unit and for trailers can go up to 10 hours per kingpin
Bien pero la “percha” es muy frágil tendría q ser dos ejes gruesos con rosca en ambas puntas las planchas de por lo menos 25 mm de espesor lo demás está bien 👍
Hello, Can anyone help me with the king pin overall intervention mechanical design. I am currently doing my mechanical engineering course as a final year. Any concrete kind of information would really be appreciated !!💯 New design, new ideas(hydraulic, pneumatic or any transmission system), king pin inclination angle.

Very informative, made a jig like yours to do our truck and worked like a champ, thank you.
Ты красавчик, береги себя. Хорошей и денежной работы тебе. Не стесняйся своего английского и смело комментируй что ты делаешь.
Amazing how easy the new pin went in. Considering the bushing material; odd the old on was sized up like it was. Dusty dry though.
Thank you! Good work! Good save on the press tool! Nice welders
Excellent video.... Shame I only found it AFTER I had done one. Thank you

Did you preload the thrust bearing to check if you needed a top shim ?
great video, thank you very much, I will take my truck to the mechanic, there is not way I can do that!!
Do the king pin always have to be pushed upwards to remove ? Or can they be taken out either way ?
You can drive them down through also.
Very good job ! Very good video !!! Thanks!

I want to ask a question because the piece has play if it is very difficult to remove it

This! A buddy of mine was telling me that today

Is it a necessity to remove the disk and hub out or its possible to work around it?
Oh yes. Without removing a hub you will not be able to remove the shield around and you won't be able to work. And it is one of the easiest part to remove the hub.
@@thetrick4fun thanks for the tips
Thank you 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Wow... Awesome task.
Good job. 👍
I am hoping someone can tell me the torque specs on the 12 T55 torx bolts that fasten the rotor to the hub. Thanks in advance.

No torch on kingpins ever!
Why not ?
@@bandit6918
Heat treated parts under high stress on front end gets ruined by torch heating.
I think better if he spray DW40 first before jack
How long does it take?
One day for one pin
Great job .I am going to make me one of that tool
What size nut on the hub?
Also what size bushing extractor?
41mm
@@jamesbyrne9699Excellent, same as lugnuts

Hello how much Pounds to move the rotor?
Hub bearing preload
3.7-7.1 Lb (1.7-3.2 kg) if you put new hub bearings
3.1-6.4 Lb (1.4-2.9 kg) if you put used hub bearings
Must be Russians that’s how we do it as long as gets job done ☑️
New York mechanics would never do what you did. They simply replace the whole thing not fix it
