Braid. Have used 30lb spiderwire myself in winter on brushpiles. Straighten hooks back with pliers. Don't have to retie with cold fingers. Also mark the line with a sharpie every 5 ft to know how deep you're letting your jig down. But what pound test is he using. Lighter than 30 but still strong enough to straighten a hook?
