I honestly had very little trouble with them. I had high poise and tanked their hits and hit them just as hard and they went down easy, fighting Sif was harder... I couldn’t see through all the tears in my eyes as she started limping and then toppled over when she did the back and forth swing

Wayward Armaments: The weapons and armor of once great heroes long since passed. The memories of these glorious battles still resonate within the steel from which they're forged and compel them to seek out a warrior who can best them in one last battle.
Castle Weaver: A great beast created by the Witch of Izalith to build her once great capital. Their breath of fire was said to be so powerful, it could melt the ground beneath their feet. Now that Izalith is no more, this tragic beast now sits in the ruins of it's former home without purpose.
Joltik, Squire of Lightning: Legend says that the young squire Joltik was once apprentice to Ornstein, one of the four Knights of Gwyn. After Ornstein departed from Anor Londo, Joltik stood in wait for his master's return. But as the years passed, the young squire lost hope and now drifts through the empty city as another hollow devoid of purpose.

When they talk about Dark Souls lore of a fallen soldier's spirit inhabiting their weapon and accidentally describe Honedge, an actual pokemon's origin.
i feel like Joltick looks intimidating, but when you talk to them, you find out they really just want to help you, and you can summon them to help you. If you play your cards right, you get a cutscene and Joltick takes off their helmet to reveal their perfect hair, and they hug you, and say, "thank you for your help, but I have my own quest as well. I'll be waiting on the other side." and then they leave.
there are no hugs in dark souls, only pain.

Imagine killing this giant knight, whose been abandoned by time itself, and the next thing you have to kill is a very confused, annoyed and slighly angry bird stuck to the broken sword you threw out not even twenty minutes ago...
Knowing what "weak armor" does, I can imagine a flying bird enemy coated with metal armor that you have to fight, with multiple hp thresholds. Each time a threshold is broken, the bird flails around, loses some of the armor, and gets faster and more erratic and aggressive than before.
I like how the first two were just the Pokémon with a more monster twist and then joltik was a legit possible dark souls character/enemy

this is a side story alongside the main quest of the game.
Some ancient civilization of unknown origin was advancing intensively, dominating the entire land fast. Throughout the game, only remnants of these people are seen. A leader of this civilization was a mad science dude, kinda like aldia in ds2. He advanced technology so fast that in very short time, they were conquering all domains of the land. The vast lands, underground discovered mines, the blue oceans, the mysterious forests. All domains but one, the vast skies. The leader, never truly with bad intentions, became mad by his desire to expand territory to provide his ever expanding population with resources. He captured many winged creatures and studied them and experimented on them to understand their flight capability, which he thinks all flying animals are far descendants of the ancient dragons. He discovered a certain species of birds of prey, soaring the highest skies, making nests in the tallest of mountains. This dude went crazy and started obsessing over the concept of soul fusion to creatures, a concept later thought of by a scholar in a land called drangleic in the far future. This dude eventually somehow found a way to merge with one of the birds, turning into some armoured demon bird abomination. He achieved his goal of reaching the skies, but did not even realise that his people had been wiped off long back. He is there on his nest, at the peak of the highest mountain of the land, VERY territorial.

But when the age of lords was in its fullest, and gwin started hunting the dragons, every new adventurer, thinking to be the chosen one, hunted this legendary beast to find honor, or maybe just to still their bloodlust.
To this day it had slaughtered every challenger who was foolish enough to seek for its head. The weapons and arms on his body, left over from previous battles, slowly fused with its flesh, as skarmory learned to use them against its attackers.

I know I'm three years late, but the weapons becoming a creature actually has dark souls precedent! I get to be a positive nerd today! Basically, in dark souls 3 a knight's ring (havel's, to be exact) was dropped on a bridge, where its owner's spirit kind of summoned a great stone beast around it.
