If anyone has a copy of Carp Fisher, from Summer '95, have a read of the Kevin Maddocks article. This has been done before, albeit in a cruder form. It was abandoned for being unethical and Maddocks felt that it would get banned on most fisheries. I guess time will tell here.
This is an interesting development- but no end of questions will result. Back in the 70s there was a self hooking rig developed, but it didn't take off. This seems way more advanced. No doubt it will work, but some MASSIVE questions for fishing: - At what stage does fishing become too efficient? Would there be any point if every single fish was hooked? - How much agency do you as an angler want to have? Does it strike you as odd that it's now possible to catch a fish with minimal traditional watercraft (just use fishfinder or drone) no casting (use a baitboat), no spotting bites (bite alarm) and no strike involved? Find a device to reel in the fish and you now have a sport where almost no human agency is required. - Do we want a sport where striking is redundant? Carp angling has already ushered in a new era of this. But the video says "all branches of angling can benefit". Really? Striking is a key skill. It's enjoyable. Do you want a sport where almost every step is done by a device? What you cannot deny is that the device looks effective and well put together. But it could change everything in ways many don't like. How can the inventor say "this won't affect you if you don't want to try it"? If it becomes standard fare, of course it will impact your fishing. How many might feel uneasy about this, but then use it because everyone else on the lake is getting a hooked fish from every single take? The fish could become next level stressed out and on edge- and those who say "no thanks" will find it even harder to get bites. Pretty crazy. And if everyone uses it, could the carp become ultra, ultra-educated? Does angling need something fish cannot deal with? For any excitement to exist, there has to be the chance of the fish getting away with it. Ultimately, anglers say they want mystery and a game of chance but guess what... it turns out many of us seem to want predictability and a game of certainty. However, if you made the sport completely predictable it would soon lose its magic. This device is another step towards complete predictability and efficiency. Only you can decide whether that is a good thing or not... will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
As a carp angling community we really need to put a stop to tactics such as this that give the carp no chance of outwitting the angler. It's a sport where the carp should always be one step ahead. Overstocked lakes, angling pressure, drones, bait boats and tactics such as this, give the carp no chance of escape and it's bordering on cruelty.
Behave your self carp can still feed 3 inches away from the best rig in the world and not get caught. Calling it borderline cruelty? The hypocrisy is laughable
Banned at an increasing number of lakes now, as the open arms will cause a death rig effect if you break off the fish via a mainline failure. This is because the arms open facing the fish, so they will catch on any snag, weed or similar which will anchor the fish to that point. I understand the mechanics, and its a brilliant concept, but its not safe in my opinion. This opinion is shared by more lakes that ban it everyday.
at like 11:20 i dont see the twig looking like it did anything looked the same laying as when the fish darted off. will we get a beter video showing it in action?

Please dont take this as a negative comment , as its not. The product looks great. But does this work the same way as Steve Renyards hermit lead arrangement?
Many lakes have banned it already. Can see a few issues with it personally a) going off when setting up your bait/PVA bag and hooking yourself b) snagging issues c) damage to fish (other species don't have tough lips like carp do) d) the amount of plastic left in the lake when snapping off. It seems a bit gimmicky and robotic, the art of fishing is disappearing with additions like this and bait boats etc. I maybe on my own but that's how it feels to me 😞
Quite concerned. I don't understand why you could not have least machined it so the two trigger 'arms' are contained within the main tube body. They to me look like they have the capacity to snag on something, potentially leaving the fish tethered in the event of a crack off or main line cutting on zebra mussels etc. 😑
Where are all of the negative comments? I've spoken to others and 95% agree that this is made with absolutely no thought for fish care. Several fishery owners saying they have banned it already. Can see it fading away in to non existence over time. Given the lack of other negative comments I expect this one to disappear fairly quickly 😂

All the fisheries near me posting bans for this product before it’s even hit the shelfs. I remember when goo first came about it was the same. Hope it pays off Ali. It’s not the regular angler you gotta try sell this to it’s the owners of fisheries
So what I'm looking at here is (if the product in the vid at 6:10 is going to market) mainline through a lead clip, the lead clip connected to the product along with your mainline which in turn is connected to the hooklength via a swivel? I'm sorry, If I ran or owned a fishery I would ban it (as have at least 3 fisheries I know of already), there are 2 forward facing legs sticking off it that are going to act like hooks or grippers in weed, snags and rocks, there is no way of it releasing if your main line snaps, its just as bad as having your hooklength tied to your 3oz lead if not worse.
Hey OMC im a CNC mill programmer/machinist & i re engineered this in my CAD program then printed several variations on my 3D printer to make it snagless & streamline, it now acts EXACTLY like the faithful safety lead clip we all use today. I’ve had a few foul hooked fish this year being the first time I’ve ever experienced that in my fishing journey but what would happen in that scenario will the aggressive trigger cause more potential damage if accidentally triggered into the fish’s body or fragile parts of the fish like it’s fins etc
Im not worried about fish safety! But I have to say you've missed a trick here Ali. You should have integrated a way of being able to attach a dissolvable capsule of hormone into it. Double winner!!
It’s not that bad, I understand echo sounding, bait boating etc but come on this is just like the Bungee rig 2.0, sometimes companies do come out with things at times I think is just to purely generate sales, but I must say I do think this is something a little special. I don’t think many fish will have dealt with that level of aggression in a rig before because believe me they can do you well and proper, using the weight of the lead as well sometimes to do that.
Why are people so desperate to catch a fish? As if bite alarms and self hooking rigs didn’t make carp fishing easy enough as it is. Now we have those deeper things, bait boats, underwater videos showing you how they feed, now this nonsense. What’s next?
I wonder how it reacts with a mesh bag hooked on or a stringer, if the added weight springs the trap. Will it have to be used as a single hook bait rig only.?
I like Ali and wish him the best. If you play back the video of the carp from the magic twig cover slowly it looks like the twig does not activate. Around 11:16 you can see the arms do not appear to spring out even when the carp shakes it's head and swims away. It probably activated once the angler starting reeling the fish in. Even the actual cover photo shows the arms clearly not activated. At 14:09 you can see the arms activate just as the lead is moving, this does appear to cause the fish to bolt out of the swim. I like innovation in fishing but I am not convinced that this will perform better than just adding an elastic section to your rig.
So how much force needs to be applied for it to recoil? How does it work along side lighter weights 2oz for example? What about when fishing in silt does it have the thrength to trigger efficiently through it ?
The bare hook, heavy lead, indicator against the alarm. They all help to make the carp bolt. So does this. I remember in the early days people saying fishing with a bare hook and heavy lead wasn't fishing. Nowadays nobody has an issue with that anymore. This is the next step in carp fishing. Well done!
This almost exact thing was talked about in a book written in the early 80’s by the guys fishing in the Colne Valley but dismissed as unethical at the time. I’m sure there will be people that will be able to fill in the details …
Well well dun´ mate! You closes the gap in rig-evolution...as i was fishing in the 90ies...young carp angler😆...we always think about such a solution...we waited...we discussed such a smiliar idea...and now you did it! Thank you for this step in rig evolution...i will buy your product...for sure! But..WHY is this rig forbidden still at so many lakes...especially in England? I don´t understand....
Nothing new here lol. There was something similar out back in the late early 90s here in essex! Can’t remember exactly but there definitely was! Spring loaded lead if my memory serves me right!
Great idea and concept but it just needs more thought into redesigning and REMOVING the arms so it is smooth on the outside and won’t catch on anything. A simple internal spring trigger ?
This will definitely split the carp community but can’t doubt the technical design and progressive thought process. When will it be available to buy and RRP?
I have no idea why people are having such an issue with this. It's a truly original idea. That does not happen very often in any sport. When we resist change we get left behind. And a rule to life, your beliefs prohibit you from doing something, not me.
Looks a great bit of kit but With the arms facing forward Is there not a risk of them being caught on snags Or Collecting and grabbing hold of weed as the carp try to bury them selves. Do they break off if so ? Just curious. As a carp could get themself tethered in the event of a snap off.
The safety issue aside ,I would not feel comfortable using this . Maybe it will do what it says on the tin but for me personally it further chips away at the skill required to catch carp. Tweaking a rig adapting to the conditions and succeeding is immensely satisfying...this is going the wrong way in my opinion.
hey i have had one of these devices since the early seventies , my grandfather gave it to me years ago, ill try and dig it out. mine is in a small metal tube and works.
Great concept and enthusiasm but there're already dozens of fisheries banning these unfortunately including Farlowes, all my local lakes have banned them already which is sad to see, scared of change!
I carp fish and have for over 20yrs, the older i get the more i think what we do is cruel. The reason i think this is because so much now is in our favour, the poor carp are at such a disadvantage now. Anyone think otherwise or the same?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Please watch all of the subsequent films, we have used! Why would it effect the flank of a fish? Swivels, clips, leads and lines are far more likely to do that. This doesn’t.
Got death rig all over it that has. Imagine a fish towing that piece of plastic around with the two arms sticking out of it.. they will act like a rake and get caught in any snag it passes. Sorry to be so negative but fish safety has to take priority
Ali . I think the twig is a game changer . All the bad press about if you get snapped off the twig could get caught in weed and tether the fish . I think if you make the spring arms thinner but strong enough to spring the trap .even if it gets caught in weed the arms would snap off . Just a thought 🎣🎣
It doesn’t get caught in weed mate anymore or less than what you already use. Has been extensively tested across 100’s of fish across many terrains and scenarios. You don’t need to have concerns, as we’ve tested all that. Just enjoy it and use it with belief. ❤️✅
can you confirm that the rig is attatched by the rubber to the main line and lead clip? if so this falls under the same rules as elasticated feeders on most venues with bans in place
It's nothing like a feeder with elastic pml that's nash triggerlink this is like a spring you set and when fish pick it up the energy of the spring triggers and pulls the hooklink back 2 inch
Hi Ali I totally get the concept the only worry which again I get from lake owners and anglers is the two arms that could get caught in a snag .could it nit be redesigned. Instead of two arms why not 2 clips that lock it and when it's triggered they just fall off maybe sell a bag of clips as well as the magic twig just a thought
Looking forward to a video explaining what this actually does and how it does it. Only after that can I say if its a game changer. I'm sure you will agree. Obviously I get the idea of what it does, just don't know what it's actually doing....
100% atm it’s just hype and a fish getting hooked lol sure it would have still got a hooked without the magic twig a big clumsy fish would have probably been nailed any way let’s face is no one’s need this before to catch
Alli can't you have the arms open up the other way around so that if a cut off does happen the arms aren't face the way the carp is traveling forward and would be less lightly to pick up weed or catch in a snag
It can be seen as cheating, but it’s also innovation. We all try to get that hook to prick the lip to stop the fish ejecting it and we’ve pretty well managed that 🎣🐟
Ali i cant thank u enough u have helped me so much u have inspired me to got to the outdoors and get fishing its been really hard as my nan has just died and u have inspired me so much thank u so so much 💙💙
You know you have a great product, when you only need to see it once and it’s oh wow. I only fish 2-3 times a year so perfect for someone like me. Well done Omc and Ali.
Like the idea for being something new, truthly im on the fence until i see it. But for all the haters, didnt see people complaining about using a fixed lead clip when they came out, whats the difference, a fish hooking itself with a 4 oz lead on a short hooklink. Or a super charged spring loaded contraption. When you brake it down pretty much the same principle.
Many subsequent videos coming! But No it won’t set off with PVA, it has grooves in the outer tube to tie off with PVA mate so it doesn’t disengage on a big cast or with a PVA bag. ❤👍🏽
I was skeptic but this video has certainly made a difference in my thinking and made me want to buy some , BUT the only problem is most lakes are banning them so that’s the main issue for me at the moment. I suppose it’s an advantage for the lakes that let you use them but could be few and far between at the moment. Hope some warm to the idea
Why not develop this further, use a self winding reel as well, no need play the fish either. No need to cast, use bait boats. Ready bought rigs, with bait on, saves time. Make the lake so small that you could step across it, only containing one fish called “Trapped Trevor”, who is starved so he has to take your ready made bait. Where will it end? Be a bit like Thailand or Japan where they fish in indoor ponds whilst having dinner and a beer.
Going over this in slow mo at 11:09 the magic stick looks like it didnt even go off the arms on the rig still looked closed the lead had already done its job and hooked the fish same as the other clips the hook had already been set before it goes off. Really dont see how this is going to make hooking any better it looks like it still needs the lead to set the hook to even work. Looks like there is no way for the fish to get rid of that either if there was a crack off or a break.Telling me that every fish that picks this up i am going to catch i dont think so. Great idea and concept but thats about as far as it should go think its just a gimmick to get more money out of the people that dont know any better.
This is not negative towards omc in any way - I think the product is awesome but I must say I didn’t see any mechanism going of at the time of that fish hooking itself too it looked static,I noticed that first time watching too. Maybe you just can’t see it that well, but it just looked like it hooked itself in the conventional way.
I cant believe what I am actually seeing on social media. From what I am reading from the target audience, it seems to me this has become more of a sanction on Ali himself rather than going against the product. Venues pre banning it before they have looked at it, touched, used it, forced the components until destruction, really put it through its motions. Then on the back of all the venue bans, all potential end users laughing and slamming Ali/OMC. Product looks great. Enthesis, on my comment on LOOKS great. Might be a load of crap, but that is the point of testing it for yourselves and then making reflection on the product. If, with time the product proves to be unsafe or deemed a waste of time, then slam it all yous want, but until then, keep a open mind before making a pre conceived idea of what the product is all about.
Just a quick question, what happens if an angler who is using this product cracks off, which will leave a self hooking rig live in the lake with yards of line attached to it.
RIP carp fishing. I know I am going to be in the minority but this has to be the worse product released ever. Rig mechanics is part of the intrigue and puzzle that is carp fishing. To take that away knowing any load of crap assembled on the end of your line will work, then that’s a dark day for the sport. I just hope these are over priced and fishery owners ban them up and down the country. These seem crude as mouse traps. Ali, these are a disaster for the industry. Author - someone with 20 years in the tackle trade.
@@waspey88 completely agree. I’ve got that horrible gut feeling in me but I know the wise old fish will be initially caught easily but then they will all become much harder for everyone. I am struggling to see any long term good from this product. It’s fishing not trapping. If I wanted to do that I’d set some rat traps in the sewer.
It feels unfair . Taking back my previous comment . considering it your right it’s just trapping carp not catching them ! I can see fishery’s banning this kind of mechanics . Firing a hook into a carps mouth … it’s not on really is it .
@@GDgamingstyle bang on!! It really is firing a sharp hook into a carp’s mouth. Angling shouldn’t be as crass as that. Should have an element of failure to keep things interesting.
@@OutOfMyBrainOnaTrainI've always found the best way to catch carp is by placing little traps in different areas and as for you not wanting this product it's called evolution it's no different than people using bait boats sending them under bushes that's impossible to cast a rig too and even using a deeper finding the features and the fish so for me it's the way forward if you don't like something don't use it its that simple
Great story, it's been advertised very well, but, your taking the fishing out of fishing, I understand we have elasticated method feeders which do the same thing. But this will further split fishing, and commercials are sure to ban these....
This product could be one off the biggest deals in carp fishing history if the arms are pretty weak if forced the wrong direction so if you get snapped and the fish gets caught in a snag the arms can snap off and free the fish. Nothing has been mentioned about this. Would be nice to get a video out on social media networks about it showing the strength/weakness off the arms

More videos to follow mate to explain more.!
6 mortgages and 5 personal loans should get you a sample
It will split something matey. .. what ever happened to fish safety is paramount??
Uk lakes are already banning it
So it's a fail big time
Carp fishing has gradually reduced itself to a variation on longlining, this is just another step further down the stairs
I have no idea why people are having such an issue with this. It's a truly original idea. That does not happen very often in any sport. When we resist change we get left behind. And a rule to life, your beliefs prohibit you from doing something, not me.
Cool i imagine if you fit that contraption inside a method feeder it will work really well in match fishing 👌. The twig "branching out" 🏃♂️
Looks a great bit of kit but
With the arms facing forward
Is there not a risk of them being caught on snags
Or
Collecting and grabbing hold of weed as the carp try to bury them selves.
Do they break off if so ?
Just curious.
As a carp could get themself tethered in the event of a snap off.
The safety issue aside ,I would not feel comfortable using this . Maybe it will do what it says on the tin but for me personally it further chips away at the skill required to catch carp. Tweaking a rig adapting to the conditions and succeeding is immensely satisfying...this is going the wrong way in my opinion.
agree. nuff said.
hey i have had one of these devices since the early seventies , my grandfather gave it to me years ago, ill try and dig it out. mine is in a small metal tube and works.
Great concept and enthusiasm but there're already dozens of fisheries banning these unfortunately including Farlowes, all my local lakes have banned them already which is sad to see, scared of change!
14:27 the carps on his way out of there before the legs have even sprung out?
You've got better eyes than me because I didn't see it trigger at all. I've played in slow motion several times and nothing!
Does it ever accidentally trigger from casting it in?
I carp fish and have for over 20yrs, the older i get the more i think what we do is cruel. The reason i think this is because so much now is in our favour, the poor carp are at such a disadvantage now.
Anyone think otherwise or the same?
Nail on the head mate 👍
Questions.
Any damage to carps flanks when you tested it ?
In conjunction with a running rig ?
When’s it coming out ?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Please watch all of the subsequent films, we have used! Why would it effect the flank of a fish? Swivels, clips, leads and lines are far more likely to do that. This doesn’t.
@@OMCTH-cam in that case can’t wait to try
What am I missing? The “perfect shot” doesn’t show the twig activating?
@@OMCTH-cam I’ve not used one yet mate but think it’s a great idea 👍
can you confirm that the rig is attatched by the rubber to the main line and lead clip? if so this falls under the same rules as elasticated feeders on most venues with bans in place
It's nothing like a feeder with elastic pml that's nash triggerlink this is like a spring you set and when fish pick it up the energy of the spring triggers and pulls the hooklink back 2 inch
"There is going be alot of haters just try one", *every fishery in the uk instantly bans this product before it even hits the shops*
Will as many retailers even want to stock it as much as other products now?
Hillside fisheries burnley have already banned them
Hi Ali I totally get the concept the only worry which again I get from lake owners and anglers is the two arms that could get caught in a snag .could it nit be redesigned. Instead of two arms why not 2 clips that lock it and when it's triggered they just fall off maybe sell a bag of clips as well as the magic twig just a thought
Still can’t see how it actually works? Is it spring loaded? I see the fish still was dragging the weight behind it so......
Great little thing! Just a shame loads of fisheries are banning it
Looking forward to a video explaining what this actually does and how it does it.
Next videos coming soon.
@OMC TH-cam
I see the twig has been banned at certain fisheries before it's even got the shops.
where can i buy it?
Alli can't you have the arms open up the other way around so that if a cut off does happen the arms aren't face the way the carp is traveling forward and would be less lightly to pick up weed or catch in a snag
What about the hermit lead arrangement.
Look at the hermit rig, folks. Don’t get ‘caught’ by OMC😁😁😁😂🤔🤔
Works Totally different, it doesn't 'strike' the fish. It just prevents the fish pivotting the lead.
I love this my one question is on impact of casting dose it set it off ?
Wouldn’t feel right using this, but what rigs can or should you use it on
It can be seen as cheating, but it’s also innovation. We all try to get that hook to prick the lip to stop the fish ejecting it and we’ve pretty well managed that 🎣🐟
Ali i cant thank u enough u have helped me so much u have inspired me to got to the outdoors and get fishing its been really hard as my nan has just died and u have inspired me so much thank u so so much 💙💙
Looks amazing. God knows I need help catching. I use pva mesh would you need the stronger twig so it doesn't go off whilst casting.
This isn’t fishing, it’s trapping
What u mean lad setting ur bait and a normal hook is setting a trap and we’re the trigger
hope they are made in the uk but i highly doubt it and the cost will probably be a major factor especially if you have a crack off or snagged line.
I remeber seeing a guy in 1997 with something similar. Elastic running through an inline lead.
Takes me back to the seventies, heron bite indicators and the sure - striker, may have been crude but they worked.
You know you have a great product, when you only need to see it once and it’s oh wow.
I only fish 2-3 times a year so perfect for someone like me. Well done Omc and Ali.
Why bother going if you can’t be bothered to hook your own fish . Ideal for some one like you that hasn’t a clue obviously
Perfect for someone like you? A total noddy?
Like the idea for being something new, truthly im on the fence until i see it. But for all the haters, didnt see people complaining about using a fixed lead clip when they came out, whats the difference, a fish hooking itself with a 4 oz lead on a short hooklink. Or a super charged spring loaded contraption. When you brake it down pretty much the same principle.
Hair rig? Bait boats? Drones?
Would this work if you put a mesh bag on or would it trigger on the cast? Looks great by the way
Many subsequent videos coming! But No it won’t set off with PVA, it has grooves in the outer tube to tie off with PVA mate so it doesn’t disengage on a big cast or with a PVA bag. ❤👍🏽
@OMCTH-cam
Guess the answer about how it behaves throwing already got answered 😅
Can't wait to try it out 😊
Poachers that leave their lines set and then go away and come back are going to love this contraption 🤔
Can you use it on very weed lakes
Where can you buy this product ?
I was skeptic but this video has certainly made a difference in my thinking and made me want to buy some , BUT the only problem is most lakes are banning them so that’s the main issue for me at the moment. I suppose it’s an advantage for the lakes that let you use them but could be few and far between at the moment. Hope some warm to the idea
All i have popping up on my facebook are lakes that have already banned this product and i dont think its even out yet.
How sensitive is it? Let say a cray or small fish picked up your bait would it go off?
Take it you haven’t watched yet
And another person who didn't watch the video ! 🤦🏻♂️
Please watch the full video. Also more videos coming to explain all of this.
Looking good.
I'll be happy to give those a try on my Club water.
Well done to all involved 👍
Are thay available? If so how stocks them in Liverpool.
I shall sit on fence for moment, not sure what I think 🤔…love to see one up close and then will decide.
Been waiting for this 😊
Looks class
Just a quick question, what happens if an angler who is using this product cracks off, which will leave a self hooking rig live in the lake with yards of line attached to it.
Exactly the same as any rig
Best of luck to you guys at OMC
Amazing invitation 👏🏻.......
Would this work on silver fish do we reckon Eg bream tench ide
Will it work on all rigs say for instance a helicopter set up?
what about pva bags will it fit in the inline version
RIP carp fishing. I know I am going to be in the minority but this has to be the worse product released ever. Rig mechanics is part of the intrigue and puzzle that is carp fishing. To take that away knowing any load of crap assembled on the end of your line will work, then that’s a dark day for the sport. I just hope these are over priced and fishery owners ban them up and down the country. These seem crude as mouse traps. Ali, these are a disaster for the industry. Author - someone with 20 years in the tackle trade.
Agree these are definitely not needed but Ali got so many fanboys and will sell loads
Are they banned from linear or Norton Disney as there probs the most known day tickets in the country
Brilliant product. Can't wait to try it for Barbel. What a brilliant idea.
Love this, great looking product and brilliant story 👏
Can you use this system on a helicopter setup ?
Great story, it's been advertised very well, but, your taking the fishing out of fishing, I understand we have elasticated method feeders which do the same thing. But this will further split fishing, and commercials are sure to ban these....
In the 80s when I was 13 I built a safe rig with pole elastic for carp and it did the same thing and caught lots of carp on it at my local lake
Can you use it when fishing solid bags?
Fantastic can't wait to buy it and try it
This product could be one off the biggest deals in carp fishing history if the arms are pretty weak if forced the wrong direction so if you get snapped and the fish gets caught in a snag the arms can snap off and free the fish.
Nothing has been mentioned about this.
Would be nice to get a video out on social media networks about it showing the strength/weakness off the arms
