    You look at Xhekaj -- when he got sent to Laval he didn't whine, he worked his game and earned his spot on the Habs bench.
    That's the culture that Hughes is trying to build in Montreal and this McGroarty guy doesn't sound like he fits the mold.

    • @joshg72826
      @joshg72826 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lets be honest. Everyone loves Xhekaj, but he was never in any position to demand anything. He was overlooked by most teams and never drafted. He's always had to work harder and grind more to be where he is. I'm pretty sure he's (hopefully) appreciative of the fact Montreal gave him opportunities thus far.

      look I'm not saying he's a lindros. Lindros was a phenomenal player. tell me who came close of what he did?. if it wasn't for his concussion and being a glass canon he wouldve been in the hockey temple as one of the greats. the guy could've been a easy 50 goals per season for a long time. so yeah, you trade for him. as for ruther, I don't mind mesar calgary 2025 first and Harris. Mesar was a bad descision from day one kulich was the guy to pick. 2025 calgary it was free and after the top 10 the talent goes down drastically and harris that we don't need anymore. so basically mesar for McGroarty. as a habs I dont mind.

      Because they can and it seems to work in their favor more often than not. You can call it entitlement, but at the end of the day the draft is not a slave market. Teams should treat their young prospects with enough care and respect to be able to handle such things in-house. When a prospect needs to force the team's hand in this way, it's not optimal for either party.

    Well, I’ve been watching hockey for close to seven decades and there’s one thing that my opinion has never wavered about : I don’t want a player who feels he’s bigger than the team he’s on , on my team. Guys like this one, Dubois, Laine, Zegras, etc. The high possibility of them becoming a cancer in the dressing room is too high. As the old saying goes, there is no “I” in “Team”. Guys like Béliveau, Crosby, Lemieux, Orr, Howe, understood/ understand this.

    • @20thCenturyManTrad
      @20thCenturyManTrad หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Gordie Howe who is arguably the greatest player to ever play, (Orr and Gretzky point at Howe, while Howe pointed at Orr) he spent a season with the Omaha Knights of the USHL, and didn't complain at all. Heck Jean Béliveau spent an extra year in the QHL just to say thank you to the Quebec Fans. Terry Sawchuk, one of the greatest goalie ever to play the game, spent 4 years in the Minors before finally making it, Glenn Hall spent 5 behind Sawchuk. When this kid is demanding to make it, he's already said he's got too much of an ego and needs to be humbled in the minor leagues for a couple years. The kid may be talented, but a Howe, an Orr, a Béliveau, he is not.

    As a Jets fan this makes me sad. To my understanding Rutger thinks that since some of his college buddies are already in the NHL in a top 6 role and getting powerplay time, he deserves the same.
    He forgets those guys were drafted to teams like arizona, columbus and anaheim. There were spots available.
    Winnipeg finnished top 5 in the league last year over the regular season, most of the roles he is looking for were filled. There is room now so odd choice to skip summer camp.
    Anyways that attitude gets you nowhere in Manitoba. Scheif went back to Barrie, twice.
    Kyle fucking Conner spent a season and a half on the Moose before a injury to scheifele allowed him to be called up.
    Hellebyuck spent time on the Moose. Perfetti, Roslovich, Lowry, Samburg, Morrissey.. Everybody starts there, is he better than those guys?
    Thats not to mention Chibrikov, Lambert, Heinola, Salomosson, Barlow.. he somehow thinks he gets to skip the line?
    (Only 2 guys i can think of who did, Ehlers because the thrashers were a bad team and Laine because he has a top 5, id argue top 3 shot in the league.)
    Confidence is good, wanting what you want is fine but you still have to get in line and pay your dues like everyone else. Life is slow out here, we are patient and we promote based on merit. Im sad this kid is in such a damn hurry, he is going to be good player on somebodys middle 6. Just wont be here.

However this years gets team was struggling at the time he wanted a call up. They needed NHL experience because Schief was injured and Monohan wasn’t on our team yet. This team needed to get going on that stanley cup run. Maybe rutger could’ve changed that but how are you gonna take a gamble on him in that playoffs? It’s a tricky situation but look at the Jets now. We need a 2C and it sounds like we’re favouring our young guys this year. Rutger should’ve kept his mouth shut because we lost Monahan and now we need him. But he’s being stubborn because he said what he said and he’s not taking it back. He’s too prideful. Too cool to start out on the farm team and get worked into the big club? Sounds like an arrogant little shit to me. Despite Winnipeg being excited about this kids talent level, they don’t need another PLD type infection in their club. They were lucky to flip that attitudinally challenged primary donna for several good players that actually bought in. They shouldn’t assume they can do that again if they take this one on. Too high and mighty to start out on the farm team? I say trade him while he still has perceived value. Maturity, attitude and teamwork are more important attributes than star power.

    The question is, is it worth the risk and the potential price?
    As for the HABS management, I can't see them overpaying for a player who is already displaying some character flaws. There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance.

    To be honest, we don’t really know what was said, really and what’s going on. So in saying that I’d take the chance on him and the way we have been managing players with issues that we already have I our system. And we are offering Flip Mesar, because he is unhappy as well, he was mad that he got cut from the rocket and sent back to the OHL, and he was blaming his teammates for not being up to his speed and play, he was only the 4 best player in that team so he can’t talk like that, and apparently it has rubbed Kent and upper management the wrong way! So Mesar is gone in a deal with either Harris or Baron.

There are several examples of other trades or draft picks they have done to prove their worth. Itrust them completely and so should you. If they decide this guy is worth the effort, then that's good enough for me.

    Man, this trend of American kids being drafted by Canadian teams and then wanting out is getting out of hand. If I’m a GM of any Canadian team..I’d be very weary of drafting these guys. At least the Flames got a few good yrs with Gaudreau and Chucky.. Adam Fox still gets booed us he pulled the same stunt. And who even says Rutger would play in MTL?? He might no want to go there too. When the Isles finally picked Eiseman..I was happy because I thought the habs traded up to get him. I’d take an excited Hage over a sooky American kid any day. And there’s no way Mesar is sweetening the deal either.

    The habs management and even fans media press etc etc have for years stated the Habs want "good people" or players that don't have attitudes whatever term you want to use Rutger is the type of player EVERYONE "except me"has stated we don't want.
    From where I stand there are a few things ....management has to remain in charge of hteir players you don't hand out any contracts that go astray.Two you better know exactly where you plan on using said player otherwise it is just a blind trade.Three if your getting said player to use on your 3rd line fire yourself right now.If the plan is a top 6 don't we already have those contracts in place?Demidov is not here yet but I am 100% certain he will be a top 6 and so does everyone else think the same.
    So long story short Rutger has not proven anything except he can score versus junior players.
    This is why you have those entry level contracts to get a look see of your players at some point in the NHL.You can't just blindly go after unproven free agents like we already have been doing and just hope n a prayer that is low quality managmeent.

    This is the kind of players Hughes get, like Dach and Newhook. Big potential but a bad fit with their team, so he get them at low price. With the correct surrounding, he might prove to be cooperative. But the Jets ask too much. Barron plus either Mesar or the pick, not both.

  • @TimLinklater
    @TimLinklater หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    McGroarty is delusional! He comes with Lindros-level of demands yet no reason for this as he isn't even a fraction of the player Eric Lindros was. It is refreshing to see true Superstars like McDavid, Crosby even Bedard come into the league without any drama or expectations. Every so often divas like this McGroarty pissant do show up and act like they are above the team- but truly great players still set the standard on how to conduct themselves. McGroarty is the NHL's version of Allen Iverson and this is his version of the infamous "Practice" rant...but Iverson was at least proven and in the league.
    My only wish was the NHL had a better system in place for rookies/draft picks to avoid stunts like this. It's a privilege to be drafted and in the league- this crap needs to stop.
