    On the night of April 14th 1912, just 4 days after the Titanic had set off on its maiden voyage from the English port of Southampton, the ship struck an iceberg off the coast of south-east Canada and sank in less than three hours , with a loss of over 1,500 lives.
    Wallace Hartley and his band members gallantly stayed on the deck, playing non stop music right to the very end in order to avoid panic among the many scared and bewildered passengers still onboard the sinking vessel.

    The number of lifeboats was so low because the aim of lifeboats in this ship was to rescue survivors from other wrecks. In fact, the original design of the ship onñy had 14 boats, whereas in the end, it got 20. Titanic had more than the required number of lifeboats.

    • @panzersoldat_4265
      @panzersoldat_4265 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tranhoang Long exactly. The legend of its unsikability are due to her older sister ship: the RMS Olympic. Both ships shared the same design.
      The thing goes like this: in 1911 a British warship crashed into Olympic's bow. Warships back then were designed to be able to inflict some serious damage to other ships by ramming. Olympic only sufferd minor damages, being able to return to land and be repaired.
      As you can imagine, if a ship fucking designed to sink other ships with its stern, didn't manage to sink an ocean liner, we are talking about a really robust liner. And thus, when the news of the accident spreaded and people knew that another ship like Olympic (but even more improved) was about to be launched, the expectation were high af.
