We just used the pay to park kiosk on lower Thames and it was $16 for two hours
I’m not sure what meter you used. That seems very expensive ….
I had to move to r.i. for work and I absolutely hate it. It's the only place I have lived where it takes close to 45 minutes to drive 8 miles. And now that the Washington bridge is narrowed because it's too dangerous for that much traffic to be going over it's awful. And then of course there is that horrible mt hope bridge, one of the scariest bridges because of it's horrible condition and age. When I retire I am out of this state so fast. And not to mention how rude people are up here too.

Our 3rd summer staying here for a month. This place is just beautiful every thing about it cleanliness, the people shops restaurants scenery beaches maybe it’s my age mid 6os my complements. To the people who run this city. Also I like no tent cities or open needle exchanges. Just a beautiful city!!

It has all of the same chain stores that every other mall in the US has. What a shame. Thames Street could have been special. And it's just corporate commercial area instead.
Newport does offer a lot more mom and pop shops then other areas. Where is home for you Eric? Where is your favorite place to travel to?

As Newporter it’s sucks. Don’t movie if you’re very rich. Because rent is horrible and Newport is boring and only focuses only rich people during the summer. They stick the low income people in next to Walmart. 🎉 school system is very bad.

I understand why you may have a negative opinion of Newport, but if you love the ocean, it’s a pretty phenomenal place. They have to focus on the rich boaters because it’s a seasonal town, and the hospitality industry is crucial to Newport’s economy. During the off-season, many of the businesses still thrive because locals are strong in community there. But I haven’t lived there in a decade, so…

People have made this argument often. We have always called it Thames Street. Either way works for us 😀
Aquidneck Island had always been generations of families since the 1600's. The rich started coming in and buying up property and raising rent so high, locals could no longer live on their island.
The families that know the true history of Aquidneck Island, have been pushed off our island.
It's absolutely depressing what they have done to our homes.
The island is too small, and that's the way we want it to stay.
If you are thinking about moving here, just don't.
You are demolishing our history.

I left RI years ago.
Many years ago it was a great place to live although the school system has always been awful.
Born and raised there glad myself and my kids got to enjoy the beaches, fishing (now you need a license to throw a pole in the sea), fresh sea food, used to have good sized fishing industry right there on Thames now all gone the many licenses and regulations killed it, licenses cost more than a boat in some situations.
You could go down the docks and buy fresh seafood off the boats.
Newport elites wanted the yachting folks instead.
So being a native Newportor I agree, the traffic horrific, the island is not that big, no jobs another factor, utilities, rents, food sky high.
It’s too bad what happened to it, no interest except for family.

Name spellings and pronunciations vary from place to place, of course. The spelling is identical to the large river that flows through London, England. That river is pronounced “Tems”. Interesting to hear the street name is pronounced as spelled in RI.

No, that’s incorrect. I built this channel to help people understand Rhode Island. Specifically, in this video I was highlighting Thames Street. There is no script here lol I just happened to call it out as I walking down the street 😀
