Leyland Sklar was once asked what makes a bass groove 'funky'. He answered: If you look out at the crowd and you see everyone moving, then you know - that's the only way. That's exactly how I feel about this groove that Ale wrote. It is the epitome of a true funk groove. And with Pau intensely accenting each note - first with the floor toms, then with the kick - this groove becomes absolutely undeniable (and unforgettable).
I love the smile exchange between Ale and Pau at the start of the song. You can tell they love this riff.

Awesome performance, this is a killer. The best part is Ale is singing, whoo hoo, what a treat. Dany's solo was amazing also, and of course, Pau destroying those drums, this song rocks. 🥰 The only 2 songs we still need from this live session are, Martirio and Disciple, EP will be complete.

I think they do a really good job shining individually at certain points but never overshadowing anyone else at same time. They’re so tight in their playing. Love them!

Mat and Chels - you guys have really authentic reactions - very much appreciated! Love how you said that when the girls smiled, you had to smile too. They definitely have a magnetism to them and to watch them is to be drawn into their world. Z is such a groovy song, impossible not to feel the energy and a perfect show opener - like they did last night in Mexico to kick off their 2022 tour. They are indeed, like Chels said, "a beautiful puzzle" because they have the unique ability to interchange who sings when, who combines on the harmony, how the bass and drums lock into a pattern only to change it up for the next verse, and of course Dany herself continuously switching from lead to rhythm guitar throughout most songs. They are a joy to watch and I'm glad you think so too!
Last for this EP, but if I am right Part 2 comes out later this year.

They never disappoint and the live sound was great. Nor do you guys disappoint, like the end rewind like nope gotta see it again, hold it ,and again, one more time. Lol
Agree with both your apprehensions: the bass is the star and the foundation of this song, somehow laying down the brickwork, but also capturing your attention because of that groove you just have to bounce with. And it's so varied throughout! Lots of subtle changes to it and the drums, and I think Chels nailed what is one of their greatest and least appreciated strengths, they have an incredible ear for composition and arrangement: the instruments do fit together like a puzzle box, each complementing the other, but holding their own space. Their use of unison is so intelligent and I love how throughout this song the drums, bass guitar have all been complementing each other at angles, then at the end all three are diving hard in unison groove to give us that power and intensity that really requires Pau's screen to finish it off. This song is deceptively simple at first blush, but I've come to love every aspect of it!

While I love this song, to me my favorite is still Evolve and the girls have admitted that Evolve goes over extremely well with crowd live and seeing their performance at Rockville, I tend to agree, but now that I have watched a recording of the Saltillo show in Mexico with the Spanish songs, I have to admit that Martirio is also amazing live.

Totally agree with you about "Z" being perfection. It's been my favorite since the "Mayday EP" was released last year,and was a close call between this and "Evolve",but since this video was released,it just cemented it into first place. Many fans of The Warning preferred "Animosity" (It's a good song,but nowhere near as good as this),this song is the total package,that loping bassline,crashing drums,choppy guitar runs and lead solo,and those vocals from all 3 girls,especially Paus scream at the end just make this THE SONG ! I really think they need to promote this as a single,it is too catchy not to get it on radio. Just gotta add - what a great opener for their concert last night,and what a gig from Saltillo,as a few of us wondered about "Enter Sandman" being played live,and who would sing what parts without Alessia Cara being there - it was all revealed and what an inspiring move to play it.
I have to agree, this is probably my favorite song of this EP as well. Nice reaction.
Other than the opening track Dust to Dust, you haven't checked out anything from their previous album Queen of the Murder Scene or their first full length album XXI Century Blood. Plenty of gems there, some would say they are all gems. I do. Try this:

I never noticed until today that Alejandra sings the lower part on the harmonies, it's easy to think that it is still Dany singing that part as it follows the melody before pretty much seamlessly and Ale's voice is really quite similar to Dany's. Definitely one of my favourites on the EP too. Probably Z or Animosity is my favourite.

Exactly my feelings after the 1st time… this is not my favorite of their melodies… but it grows, and especially the basslines are sooo catchy… the guitar solo is outstanding, and I loved the last chorus, where Ale sung Dany‘s voice, so Dany could focus on the guitar! Ales bass is so good, meshing seamlessly with the drums. Dany's solo was epic. As you mentioned the harmonies are one of the things that set the ladies apart from most bands on the scene.

Here comes an important notice: Now you should start their second album "Queen of the Murder Scene", it is a concept album following a storyline. You actually started with Dust to Dust months ago, it was a prologue of an incredible journey. You should follow the story through love, obsession, murder and madness starting with a great "love" song Crimson Queen. You can find all live performances on their TH-cam page.
This is a live recording,no digital adjustments, no vocal over layering. Recorded just as they performed it. It was awesome. Still not sure about the title, but other than that it was great.
