If One fails I change them all. 👍🏾

It is my experience that performing a partial replacement of the ignition components often causes the others to fail soon after. This goes for my 70's vehicles with caps / rotors all the way to more modern configurations.

I can see how distributors and common could systems would do that.
So far, so good. I ended up replacing 3 or 4 of the front ones, but the rest did not give me any issues. I wanted to see how they would hold up this winter

I have the FX45 and a M45 so I am very familiar with the VK series engine Im about to change all ignition coils and spark plugs, with all OEM being a fellow mechanic it is rule of thumb to do a complete tune up is essential.

Lol, it happened to me on my way to Sedona NM. I wanted to test my square set of rear GTR wheels. I got a misfire and had to stop at Gallup to buy a coil and spark plug. I bought a tool set that I returned when I got back to Texas. Lucky me it didn’t happen in the middle of nowhere. My FX came out of the factory back in late 2002. It aged very well.

  • @tundras4ever552

If you are on a budget, just replacing the One bad coil with an OEM coil is the way to go. A full set of coils for my tundra is 900 dollars, so not exactly cheap. I'm at 236k miles and have only had to replace one individual coil.

The starter sounds like it is going, you should check it out. In my opinion you should change all the coil packs. A car is very funny, one broken thing leads to another usually. You have gotten 200K miles from the coil packs and manufacturers these days build in obsolescence. Also what does misfiring lead to? what is the worst can happen? I hope its not engine failure.

Im just worried if i do it as a preventive maintenance on my Truck and then buy new ones made today, they will last even a short time than my original OEM's Since todays parts are also Garbage. It's like we cannot win no matter how hard we try.
Then again, they are not that expensive to replace.

Hello I got 2008 m35x with 150k miles and I'm losing oil in the valvlve covers gaskets, to outside, I can smell the oil burning when I start the car and it stops. What would you recommend to do?..
Because I read that you have to replace whole valve cover and gasket tocazer on each side because if I just change the gaskets then I might have problem with spark plugs tube gaskets wich as I understand u can't replace them.
    Thanks for help.
    God bless.

My car had code P303. I went directlty to check the coil. I open to clean it. And it was sulfated. I clean all the parts and perfect. However I know the rest of coils will be pretty sure in similar condition and I was correct. I clean all of them just in case. Because as you know folks. When one fail the next is waiting. So peace of mind. I clean all. Let's see if my car can run other 15 years or 160k miles more. With the original coils. I will be back.in 15 years to leave a comment here 🤔

Are you running Hitachi or Hanshin coil packs? One of my coilpacks threw a code, and they have never been changed at all on mine, i have 175K miles... i found a set of 6 coil packs OEM Hanshin on ebay, not sure if i should be getting hitachis instead.

@@EdBwoy I found 6 pack of hanshin ignition coils packs on ebay for 130 for all 6 which is strange because 1 cost 100.00.. so i'm assuming they are counterfeit or fake. Cant trust ebay sometimes. I'm going with Hitachi on these.

  • @JTabor1976

So when it comes to Nissan, you cannot trust after market unless it is a manufacturer that builds direct for Nissan. Like I cannot go to O'reilly. And autozone and trust their brand products. Their brake pads do not fit coil packs at autozone. Do not match up with my Nissan engine. It is best to get o. Yeah, and you can get OEM and higher performance straight from Nissan. Which is their Nismo line N Gk spark plugs instead of the economy spark plug, the economy spark plug runs 1299.The N Gk higher performance runs 29 or 39.Depending on your the region you're buying it in. I'm starting to have misfires and change my coil packs around 53000 Miles by in the car used. I'm now coming up on a 126000 miles. Having misfire issues, I will not be replacing them 1 / 1. And it's cheaper to buy the set.
I am also using talk to text so I'm sorry if punctuation is a thing for you grammar police. It's also best to change your spark. Plugs out when replacing your coil packs. Because you do not want to have a used plug on a new pack. Your pack will wear that plug out fast and then in the next 5 to 10000 miles, you might end up having to replace 2 or 3 of them. Anyways, do not forget to use the boot grease. And the thread grease when doing these repairs

Excellent review. I own an 11yr old Honda Accord EX-L 2.4L engine. Just reached 99k miles with no issues, whatsoever. I decided to replace the Spark Plugs and OEM Denso Coils for peace of mind, as I intend to keep it a while longer. Hopefully I can get another 100k miles or more with no issues. love my Accord to this day.

I was watching you tube "uncle tony's garage and he had a Nissan that came in. One coil pack was bad .he replaced one but was told by dealer all 6 needs replaced as computer reads a different resistance on new coil verses old so he drove it a few days and check engine light came back on. He replaced all 6 coil packs and problem went away. Maybe this is helpful.

Ain't nothing going to happen to your coil packs. You can make it to 350,000 miles. Most of your viewers will be dead by then. Most likely a blown head gasket or tranny failure will retire your car to the junkyard.

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Normally I would agree on that, but when I needed to replace half the coilpacks, I took it as a sign to do all of them.

@@EdBwoy True. I have a 23 year old mercedes with 240,000 miles on the clock. No check engine light but heard a knocking noise, saw a spark on my coil pack, turns out it was just a loose mounting bolt. Now I have an extra Bosch Ignition coil. Bosch is a good brand. Mechanics in the 2000's were talking about that brand even back then. Supposedly every 100k I'm supposed to replace my coils. I suppose i'll replace all 6 for my V6. Ironically, a V6 CLK naturally aspirated has 12 spark plugs. 2 sparks per cylinder. That's probably why it drives so smooth.

You don't get any points for doing maintenance that should have been done anyway. People like you always think you deserve more money for replacing worn part that was suppose to be done any way.
Thats why sales fail when buying used privately owned vehicles just because people think they deserve more for doing regular maintenance
