I read Everville many years ago just after i'd finished The Great and Secret Show and was delighted and mortified by the fantastical shocking visions that this story paints.
This follow up in the Book of the Art series is a tremendous novel that still resonates with me all these years later and shows just how wildly inventive Clive Barker can be.
    Great read.
    Cheers for making this video.

I just started it yesterday! I tried to read it when I was in high school but it went over my head. Twenty-three years later my mind feels more confident in absorbing its powerful phrasing and indulgent structure . So here I am again diving in! Thanks for making this video. It’s brilliant!

You might be the perfect candidate to write the next installment in Everville.

Wow, that would be...an enormous responsibility! I know how I'd do it in my own personal take on the mythology, though I'm not sure it would chime with what Barker originally had in mind :)

It would be great if Clive just stopped everything and wrote a 3rd and final book of the Art. It would be great because so much time has passed for him to put it into perspective.

How many more years do I have to wait for Clive Barker to give a third installment?

I read Everville about Ten Years ago, not long after i'd read The Great And Secret Show beforehand.
Both Books are mind warping visions of Mankind's great desires and ultimate fears.
I found them very enjoyable indeed.
I have also read The Hellbound Heart, and The Books Of Blood Vol 1.
I really should read more Clive Barker stories.
    Great video 👍

Have you stopped these Barker retrospectives? I would really like to hear your thoughts and opinion on the Scarlet Gospels.

The Great and Secret Show isn't that this be simply frightening. ... The Iad Uroboros

You should dedicate your channel to book reviews and really focus your energy there. I think your channel will grow a lot bigger if you do this.

I don’t know if this is a controversial opinion or something other people have said, but I wish Barker had never gone to the United States. The stories in BoB, and Weaveworld are peak CB horror and fantasy respectively, imo. The fantasy and horror elements in all the books are great, but the characters and the scenes set in provincial Britain are what he knows and does best imo.

Books of the Art is an incomplete trilogy of novels by Clive Barker, of which only the first two have been published. The first book, The Great and Secret Show, was first published in 1989 and was followed by the second book, Everville, in 1994. The third book has yet to be written and there is currently no schedule for its release. Of plans for the third book, Barker has stated that the book will be "a big book when it comes" and that he wants to write it with "as much feeling as possible.
    SHELL (55)
"I think what the third book will concern itself with is what the very origins of Quiddity, what the connection between humanity's origin and the origin of the conscience-the dream consciousness-that is there in the Sea of Quiddity, what that connection is. I've always believed in the idea of a collective unconscious, and Quiddity is really that." Clive Barker
Yes, there really is a Sea of Quiddity, a collective unconscious or dream consciousness. You connect with other peoples sub-consciousness through the dream/sleep state. This then manifests itself by, for example, particular ways you hold your body, your arms, your legs, your hands, etc. when awake, to mimic the person you have connected to in the Sea of Quiddity. This also manifests itself through various things you will say, words or phrases, that after you say them realize they came from somewhere else, as in words or phrases you wouldn't normally ever use. Then you realize you are picking things up from someone else's subconscious. For example, a man, can be connected to an unlimited number of women, while in the dream conscious, and distance is meaningless.
You can also connect with people while in a waking state. For example, two souls seemingly merge, you can smell her perfume, she can somehow take control of your body movements. This is more than Extra-sensory ability, this is somehow two souls merging within one shell of a body. I can see what she sees and vice-versa.
