Clive Barker interviewed by Craig Ferguson ("Clive Barker scares Craig Ferguson")

  • I have found this rare interview on the internet and I thought that could've been a good idea posting it on TH-cam, since there are only very few contents about Barker, and a lot of fans are desperately searching for contents about him. I know it's not the complete one, but it was the best I could find, with low quality too, but high quality in terms of the guest :)

    Several years ago, I was living on the East Coast, and my best friend from high school (and for the next 15 years) was living out in California. I was recovering from my second spinal surgery (I was just turning 30) and he was lucky enough to go meet Clive, our favorite author, at a book signing. I received a package in the mail, which turned out to be a copy of Abarat that he got Clive to personalize for me, which said, “Feel better soon, ____”, and included a sketch on the facing page of Pinhead, which took up over half the page. For Barker to do that for a fan he’d never met was extremely touching, and if I hadn’t loved the guy already, I certainly did after!

    I've been thinking about Clive this morning after a series of strange dreams this past week. I haven't read anything of his since Mister B. Gone, although I "re-read" Imajica a few years ago as an audiobook. I wanted to hear it as a bedtime story. But the past few nights have been one fantastical situation or scenario after another, and nothing I would have consciously imagined. It's like my consciousness reaches into these other worlds and takes a host. I think the best writers have this connection. Well, the best writers have the obsession and will to sit for hours, days, weeks, and months to actually compose such epics like Imajica or LOTR. I hope Clive finishes the third Book Of The Art before he leaves us.

    thank you for posting this. I'm not on my main account, for some reason I keep getting automatically logged me into different ones, so prob won't see any replies, but as a huge Clive Barker fan, I'm so grateful for this.
    I didn't have a tv when this aired (I was essentially homeless, just after becoming disabled by way of violent crime) so missed it. My "best friend" at the time was in a city where Clive was doing a book signing. I asked her to please go there for me, and sent her a copy of Mister B. Gone to take, so she didn't have to buy it (even tho married to a rich guy). But she didn't, and didn't even apologise, or care how much it hurt me. She knew he was a huge hero of mine.
    I should say here, that I'd done all kinds of nice and thoughtful things for her, even tho she was always taken care of by wealthy/well known men. When she moved on from musicians to video game designers/geeks (solely because they had more money) and was ostracized from most of the social groups for doing so, I stood by her. When she made a fool of herself in public getting drunk, I stood by her when others shunned her. And even tho she never had to work and yet had everything she wanted, I bought her extra special presents, stuff I could barely afford (stupid, I know, but i wanted to make her happy). And then the next day after the signing, I called her, and she told me "there was like 20 people in line so i didn't wanna wait". I was crushed that someone I did so much for, would be so selfish. Especially after I'd recently been made disabled, lost everything i had, and had to move to another place I didn't like or want to be. Anyway, sorry for rambling, but I'm glad I finally get to see this.

    • @giuseppeabbruzzi
      @giuseppeabbruzzi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't worry man! You don't have to apologize for anything, all people should be respectful and humble enough to listen to other people's problems (we are all members of the same race after all). I am really sorry about everything, and I don't think you are stupid for what you've done for her. You seem to me a very kind and down to earth person, so keep being like this and everything will be fine. You'll always be loved, not necessarily by someone, but by something, a book for instance. Clive Barker also speaks to our soul, so I really hope you'll find your inner peace in every way possible. A big hug to you, I wish you all the best! 🫂

    • @giuseppeabbruzzi
      @giuseppeabbruzzi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess because people is not really used to his amazing artistic vision. I believe that his visuals are a metaphor for life, or at least some pieces of life, and that's the reason why many people are afraid of it. In addition, people do often believe in misfortune and bad luck, so the fact that a book is telling you NOT to read it, it's like some sort of curse which people is led to believe 😂. Clive Barker is a literal genius.

In this case Clive revealed himself to be a very funny guy, apart from being clever, and Ferguson found himself to be comfortable with that. I think that they should also inform themselves about the celebrity that comes to their show, and maybe understand more about him/her.
