Every time I have seen Jethro Tull they were excellent, musically & with great showmanship. Ian Anderson was still performing a few years back, with a younger singer to assist, still brilliant. Please try "Living In The Past" next, it won't effect you emotionally quite as much, but a great Tull tune.
Incredible band, Ian Anderson is the ultimate frontman and super talented musician.....your reaction was touching and it's lovely to see you discovering this for the first time....thank you.
Jethro Tull are a British progressive rock band formed in 1967. The group’s founder Ian Anderson plays flute & acoustic guitar & is the lead singer & quite a showman. They've had a lot of different members over the years. They had a lot of great songs such as "Living In The Past", "Aqualung", "Songs From The Wood", "Nothing Is Easy", "A New Day Yesterday", "Cross-Eyed Mary", "Bungle In The Jungle", "Sweet Dream", "Life’s A Long Song" etc.
My favourite band for well over 50 years - I saw them perform Thick as a Brick with ThIck as a Brick 2 (released 40 years later) at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall in 2012.
This is only an excerpt of the whole song, which is about 40 minutes long and covers both sides of the album. The whole thing is great and worth spending some time listening to.
It’s also amazing to consider as he mentioned at the start of the performance, he had recently caught a bad cold. Did that powerful performance while sick.
I was lucky enough to see this entire song performed in '72 and it made me an instant lifelong fan. The whole song takes up both sides of a vinyl record and runs for about 44 minutes but it took up about the first hour of the show that year. Thick as a Brick is considered by most one of the best progressive rock albums ever produced but it was also a parody of the progressive rock genre done in the Monte Python style of British humor which most fans didn't understand until years later. There is a documentary available on TH-cam about how this album made Tull one of the most popular stadium acts in the 70's.
I am convinced that Ian Anderson is a reincarnation of William Shakespeare. They share an endless fountain of exuberant creation. Loved your deeply felt reaction. I feel that way too. Genius is not in wide supply these days, and he is certainly a genius at everything he does. To create a masterpiece...become a masterpiece and then create. He did just that.
I have seen them doing this live - at least once. And on video many times, and for each time it is more obvious how important the band, and Martin Barr in particular, for the general impression. Its a pity they don't play together any more.
Every tull song tells a story words that question various aspects of life,, such as religion, you really want to pop up lyrics, help you feel the tull experience better ✌️
My favorite band. The first album I heard was Aqualong back in '72, since then I can't get enough of them. Their live performances are awesome. Seen/heard them four times.
Ian Anderson is a genius. Critics called their previous album, Aqualung, a 'concept' album. Ian said it was not and then wrote the mother of concept albums .. a satire of concept albums with silly lyrics and drum solos coming out of nowhere ... In doing so, he created a masterpiece.
Hi, Empress. I never know how to define Jethro Tull. I envision tossing a minstrel troupe, a progressive rock band, and a pinch of old madrigal musical flavor in a big pot with an English equestrian riding trouser. Pour that out and you have Jethro Tull. Nice seeing you again, lovely lady.❤
gotta love JT....unique and entertaining...actually listened to the whole album for the first time a few years ago after knowing and owning JT albums back in the 80's and just got lost in it as I worked....Was so great to finally hear the full version
Hi empress Joy I'm new here great reaction to this. Check out Jethro Tull live performing The Minstrel in the Gallery or off of the studio album of the same title 😊❤❤
Because you asked: Ian Anderson is still performing live today. But unfortunately he has pretty much lost his singing voice (he is now 77 years old) and therefore concentrates mainly on playing the flute on stage.
Tull is great! They are one of my two favorite bands, right alongside The Moody Blues. Seen Tull live 2 or 3 times. Screw the R&R Hall of Fame! These days it's more of a badge of honor NOT to be included in it! Great reaction, lovely lady! ❤
Joy, your reaction was very genuine and beautiful. I think you just gave me my favorite reaction to this classic performance. There is a lot of Jethro Tull to explore in the way of both studio and live performances. A couple of recommendations to get you started: - Ian Anderson flute solo 1976 - Jethro Tull - No Lullaby / Flute Solo / Songs From The Wood - Live at MSG 1978 (Remastered) My Thoughts on why Jethro Tull is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: It is 100% Political. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is corporate controlled. Much of Ian Anderson's writing is a parallel which heavily criticizes modern society for the Elite Cultural Abuse of humanity and our natural environment - all for the sake of corporate and government greed. Anderson has been very outspoken in his views and has put a lot of his money into wildlife preservation and renewable food resources (salmon farming). As a result of his outspokeness, Anderson has made many enemies from the wealthy who control the commercialization of music. This is one of the main reasons you will not find Jethro Tull in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, despite their talent. Corporate owned Mainstream media magazines and radio stations also shunned Jethro Tull for the same reasons. The articles I've read over time were very insulting on a personal level toward Ian Anderson (calling him ignorant, dumb, confused and more). These were blatant attempts to suppress popular opinion of both Ian and the band.
Do yourself a favour and listen ti the studio/album version. As wonderful as his live performances are, he can’t play guitar and flute at the same time.
Hi Empress Joy Jean, I love your reactions in general and I would really like to see how you react to this possibly the best version of the classic "Getsemaní", sung by one of the best Spanish-speaking voices in history. I assure you that this performance will leave you with your mouth open and possibly even bring tears of emotion. th-cam.com/video/OTQqgnbQ1_4/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
The way to listen to THICK AS A BRICK is to listen to the entire 43-minute album. The short medley he did in concert is an insult to the best single-song album in rock history.
This performance is actually a condensed version of the entire album; Thick as a Brick is one song an entire album long
Wow!

I saw them do this live in 78.Blessed.
Me too Toronto

Jethro Tull is great!... AND EVEN GREATER LIVE!!!
Best live band I've ever seen, 3 times.

Best frontman ever -- so much energy!
Welcome to the Jethro Tull lovers club. Greetings from Germany!
Thank you so much 😊 I'm enjoying every bit of their music.
This is only an excerpt of the whole song, which is about 40 minutes long and covers both sides of the album. The whole thing is great and worth spending some time listening to.
Legendary song from one of the best band ever exist!!!!

Saw them in concert twice. Yes, it's worth it.

Great pick!!! Thanks for making me feel like I'm watching it for the first time all over again. ❤
I'm so glad! ❤️
Got to see Ian twice in the 70s. Brilliant ✨️🎶✨️
Gentle Giant is a similar feeling group; with a lot of great recorded live shows from the 70s.
Always a pleasure watching your reactions to my golden oldies. Wishing you peace love and health

Alright 👍 I will check it out! Thank you and welcome here. I hope you subscribe to join the family 🥰
Ian Anderson is a mad man, in a good way. I'm surprised he didn't send anyone to the hospital waving his flute around.
M.U the best of Jethro Tull is a great album. All songs placed perfectly.
Ian Anderson is a Modern-Day Troubadour. And this performance was Tull at their Best.
Because you asked: Ian Anderson is still performing live today. But unfortunately he has pretty much lost his singing voice (he is now 77 years old) and therefore concentrates mainly on playing the flute on stage.
To still be performing at that age? He's truly a living legend 👏👏👏

The Greatest Album Ever Made - along with BRAIN SALAD SURGERY 😍👌
Ian was making a joke, Empress... Zepp well known for WholeLottaLove, and Tull for ThickAsABrick, so he put the 2 titles together.
Oh! Thank you. I got a bit confused there lol 😆

“Ian” is pronounced “eean”, by the way ;-)
He is a fabulous entertainer he took the name for the band from a Shakespeare character
Actually the real Jethro Tull invented the seed drill !
@@lesleebesley697 agreed but he took the name from a Charles Dickens character he told me so
@@Malcolm-c7x I'm sure he was pulling your leg cos there isn't any character in any Dickens books called Jethro Tull
Not getting the joke at the start was not promising, particularly as you knew the song. It's just typical British humour.
