  • While MI provides choice, teachers have to have different styles available to create those choices. Here we talk about teacher-centered, student-centered and inquiry based learning models. These include folder activities and pinwheel activities.

In the article, “Howard Gardner: ‘Multiple Intelligences’ are not ‘learning styles’”
the author works to clarify the confusion between MI theory and learning styles. The
major difference he identifies is that learning styles are how information reaches the
brain, whereas MI theory is what a person does with this information once it is in the
    brain.

What is the difference between a folder activity and a pinwheel activity? Both offer students choices in how to demonstrate their content knowledge based on what method best fits their intelligences. How do they differ? If it just that one has pictures of folders and the other is written like a pinwheel?

Pinwheel activities are quick activities, typically done as homework or as unit review. For example, students chose 1/8 ways to explain a fractions lesson. Folder Activities are a bit more complex and are usually more of a facilitated as a lesson activity. These worksheets as students to answer specific questions. Folder Activities are also much more guided, while Pinwheel activities are open-ended.

Well, don't be scared. IQ doesn't matter, haven't you heard?
Today we know that the only absolute truth and wisdom is that of the "multiple intelligences" idea, right?
Actually, you should be very scared, because nowadays teachers all over the country are told that IQ doesn't matter...
