So much passion, even after 37 years of teaching. Certainly going to remember the 6 C's for my classroom. Thank you TedX for possibly one of the most engaging and noteworthy videos to date.
I've come to a realisation that Ted talks on teaching professions are sooo inspiring and motivating. I came here to learn more about teaching. I'm pursuing to become a teacher. All the best to everyone too
This is exactly why I liked being in uni much more than being in high school. We can sit down and have discussions with our professors about complex medical problems, and we share our interests with our teachers. I've even had several teachers notice my enthusiasm (despite me being very low-key most of the time) and run through the clinic halls (animal hospital) going "I HAVE A CASE FOR YOU!" this year. It makes learning more fun.
Teaching for the past 22 years , I use creativity and home atmosphere with my children . Miracles happens in learning. Best wishes to all the teachers here . I still love teaching .
Thank you for this inspirational "lecture", as teachers we usually tend to become a little selfish just because WE are trying to survive, but in the process we "forget" that the students/kids in front of us are ALSO TRYING TO SURVIVE. In order for both parties to survive, we HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER by ACKNOWLEDGING each others' needs. Unfortunately teachers fall into a big hole of issues dealing with discipline, but we need to start doing things DIFFERENTLY in order to draw our students' attention in a more positive, creative and exciting way. Our students are humans just like teachers and teachers are just as human as their students, that's why we need to approach our students in a way that we as teachers would like to be approached. Our students should have more confidence and boldness to interact and communicate with us. YES! KIDS REMEMBER US, THEIR TEACHER - This alone is a phrase that we should put up as motivation to ourselves, the fact that THEY will REMEMBER THEIR TEACHERS! WOW! We should climb into THEIR world and become more like them (in a certain kind of way...lol) to be able to understand them better so that they realise that WE, THE TEACHERS, are ACKNOWLEDGING THEM and considering their needs in such a way that we want them to ENJOY LEARNING THROUGH US, THEIR TEACHERS, who should also remember the most important component of our "job", to LOVE OUR STUDENTS SO MUCH THAT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO "HATE " US, BUT LOVE US BACK - All this because of our CREATIVITY in making their learning environment HUMANLY PLEASUREABLE.
Mr Joe Ruhl--my kind of teacher! What an inspiration to us all! I have always felt the same way about teaching: that 6th C makes all the difference in the world!
I am so blessed to have my teachers from Kindergarten to Graduate School. I feel so little compared to their expertise. But I do my best to teach my Kindergarten pupils and inspire them to dream big because the future is big and they have to be prepared for it. To keep going and not quit. To keep learning because life is full of changes. I make sure I looked at everyone in the eye as I talk to them. They do remember me. Even after years. 🥰 I am here to look for ways to improve my teaching. Thank you souch for sharing. Your legacy will live on. God bless you. 🙏🌹
As an educator since 2003, this Tedx has ignited my motivation to continue doing more out-of-the- standards teaching. And now as a doctoral student wanting, researching and learning to become a transformative and progressive educator, Mr Ruhl has encouraged me. "But the greatest of all is love" - had me choked and holding back my tears! How powerful! Any wonder considering it's from the "love chapter" of the Holy Scriptures? (1 Corinthians 13) Thank you, Joe, for sharing your experience and valuable insights. God bless you.
Things that I've realised while watching this video is that opportunities are flexible, we had it in many ways.. We were often accused ourselves about our failures, incapacities, and ignorance about the opportunities around us but not seen because of lack of focus and attention. We are more powerful than what we expected, we are like knights in shining armor, a man who behaves in a very brave way, The firefighter who rescue students bravely to help them develop their full potential in many ways as we can. In a classroom with diverse personalities, our incredible important role to play is to provide learners an access across the board to a base one sets of standard literacy expectations about what they need to participate in contemporary society. Thanks sir👏
I will teach the day after tomorrow for the very first time. I am going to remember your speech. word by word. I will show them love and care for them. Thanks!
What makes a good teacher great is personality. My FAVORITE teacher EVER was my 6th grade social studies teacher. He was funny, liked jokes but knew when to tone it down. He was nice, practically NEVER got mad, he was relatable with his ramblings, he even ran a recycling team because he saw all the global warming stuff and wanted to do something! His grades were fair, he explains the criteria CLEARLY, and we had a grand total of 0 PROJECTS! He was fun to talk to! That's not to mention how I love history! He knew all the misbehavior tactics but never used it against us, if anything he used it in a joking manner. "Hey, I see you back there, back of the classroom, get up here!", "I know how you do things, playing games on your computer, I see you switching tabs!" With the tab remark, you could see the fearful expression waft over the "trouble-makers" faces. He was just like the coolest dude.
Well said, Joe. It has been a pleasure to have known you these past several years. Your students have been fortunate to have such an inspiring and caring teacher. I wish you well in your future.
I cried towards the end of this. I realised that I am here for a purpose.. This talk it the best tedtalk i have ever listened to. So inspiring. Thanks Joe!!
This guy is a teacher's teacher. The authentic and solid reflective practice that underpins this man's conviction for learning and student efficacy exceeds the fact that most non-educator audiences would find him less of the "showman" and "entertainer-type" that we have all grown accustomed to hearing in these formats. While I do like a funny or provocative speaker who can capture the audiences attention, more times than not, I find most of the educational speakers today are sought after and revered at large speaking engagements more for their ability to elicit excitement, than for their deep understanding of the teaching/learning process. I will take this guy's realness any day of the week as his message is clear, simple, and full of care and any teacher that has achieved this level of teaching will recognize it in his speech and demeanor and examples, and any teacher aspiring to be like this would be wise to listen.
I totaly see what you want to deliver. I would be a very good teacher if I keep learning with my students all my life. The best way to learn anything is to teach it.

Tks Colleage, you speak to the soul of, not only individual [teacher or otherwise] but also of a nation. I am a product of a culture where CARING absent and a teacher is seen as tecnician who works according to officials prescription...
I loved, so many teachers. Not because I was a smart, precious student but because, they were amazing teachers. I think of them so often that I worry for their wellbeing. I can comfortably say that I think of them as my parents. They are secondary parents to me. No one else besides my parents and my relatives has given their time for me as they did. It is crazy how important they are to me. All of them under one roof, it was unique itself. There are no words to describe it. They are the type of people who would worry for their students at night, sparing their sleep time. I want to see them again. The world is not fair.
A masterpiece. If I still had school-age children, I would surely find a way to move so they could be in your class! Question: are there similar great teachers out there? Is there a network, an association? This level of teaching genius is desperately needed now in all subjects, in our world.
It's true. The love for kids is very important and they can feel it. They'll do their best because of your love and care. I have seen this in my class.
I can't find the words to describe how much your words are beautiful and inspiring . As a teacher i would watch this video over and over again . Thankyou Mister !

HI all, I am currently a graduate student at ASU and I like how Mr. Joe Ruhl highlights the unique challenges gifted children face, especially around “asynchronous development,” where advanced cognitive skills don’t always match their emotional or social development. Mr. Joe Ruhl breaks down the misconception that gifted kids don’t need extra support, showing the importance of tailored guidance from both teachers and parents. What was most noticeable was a challenging classroom environment that would meet the academic needs of gifted students and, at the same time, support their social-emotional development. Supporting gifted students goes beyond advanced work; it requires understanding their unique needs.
I just watched it after knowing about it as an online student and found it amazingly worthy and important for forwarding online learning. Important part of online learning is discussion and forums tossing view reactions. These are the integral part of distance education which now is spreading around as a forest fire. This video is another instance of horse shoe spark expanding the digital science further high in the skies. Thank you prof. ABC
I'm so glad to hear from you Mr. Ruhl that the real teaching is to give our learners' inspiration. In terms of what? To show 6 C. To give them love because this is also one of the greatest thing that we can give them. Through giving them love is proven that we can build connection toward them. Similarly, we always remember that the teaching is about considering our learners what's their interests inside of classroom.

At NSTEM, we are always looking at different techniques for learning and teaching STEM fields. The 6 C's presented here (Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Choice and Caring) are absolutely phenomenal ways to involve students in learning. Thank you for sharing this video.
One idea that was similar to the article that I read called "The Banking Concept of Education" is that both talked about the importance of communication, relationships, collaboration, and caring of the students. In the video, Lafayette discusses the many ways in which he allows his students to have a choice in how they wish to learn based on their needs. The article does the same when it sheds light on the fact that the teacher no longer teaches the students but rather people teach other since we are social beings.
I love the foundational concept of what Joe Ruhl said. I watched this video about 2 years ago, for the first time. And I talked about and shared it with many teachers I teach. This style of teaching is becoming even more important in the current COVID19 environment where we are now challenged to create a virtual learning environment that meets the learner's needs, TODAY! Applicable for both adults and children.

Teaching methods for inspiring the students of the future by Joe Ruhl has proved an eye opener video. The most important need of today's era is to inspire students positively through Research based teaching techniques & Relationship. The most important fact brought to light is that today's students love having choice. The National Education Association has identified the four Cs Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking & Creativity as essential 21st century skills that students should learn. These characteristics were even seen in our early ancestors during their daily chores like hunting, cave painting etc. Today students don't need teachers to teach them but they need Facilitators to guide & inspire them. This will give students a chance to explore their knowledge in their way. In the end it's true that a teacher who herself is passionate for her topic can ignite the spark in her students. A teacher who can show genuine love for her students and can keep the students first can truly inspire all the students irrespective of their grades. I feel to include the 4 Cs method every teacher will need a well prepared lesson plan. This will help the teacher to cater the needs of students of different learning styles and attain the expected goal. As teachers we need to understand that we can teach effectively only if we get the attention of our students and are able to inspire them.
Teachers are summoned to provide the foundation of the entire human race. Moral, Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor Skills are the pillars of every teaching process. Teaching runs in my veins.
"And the greatest of these is Love" What an amazing TEDx Talk! I admire how passionate he is about teaching and the love he has for his students. I appreciate the idea of allowing students to learn in the fashion that suits them best.

I am a huge fan of student choice and develop most of my lessons to meet the needs of individual learning styles. I love your suggestion of creating a menu. I'm on it! Thank you for your wisdom and insight....I feel it's imperative to 'shift' learning environments from teacher-centered to student-centered.....and I truly believe it can be done (regardless of the demands of standards-based curriculums and testing)!

The challenge is not believing in a student centered classroom but in making it happen. It requires knowledge, experience, commitment and daring.
It made me cry!
I could not agree more!!!!
The 2 loves really matter a lot! Thank you, Joe Ruhl! Amazing Speech!!!!
The power of one for many. Thank you for honoring us who teach and those we hope to inspire. Simply incredible.
Tentación
This Tedx is shared with the cohort of colleagues and let's see if they share my passion to become transformative.
Teachers who have not used Sabere Synergistic Board will continue to be overworked and burned out. SSB is sweeping Asia. Asian schools are adopting American evolution in education. Go figure!!! The Salesians of Don Bosco are the Educators of the Heart and this professor give me a lot of that spirit!!
Thanks!
How did it go?
No fluff, only great content. Loved it.

I love this a million times! Mr. Ruhl made me cry. Our elementary education professors always remind us the kids will not care how much we know, until they know how much we care. I am certain that your students are some very fortunate students. I believe a person must be "called" to teach. You have the gift and the calling for sure!
"The freedom to teach and inspire!" Love that phrase Joe.

As a current student the caring part is very important. I grew up in a rough environment that led to me feeling uncared about and so when my teacher showed genuine care for me and what I did it made me feel so much better and so important
We all have that one teacher in our lives that completely changed us as a person and they are always more than a teacher for us. I still remember my Chemistry teacher with whom I had many non-chemistry interactions too!
Mr Joe Ruhl is very right. We take care of all the aspects suggested by Joe Ruhl utilizing Theatre in Education Approach and Techniques in our Education college at Surat-India and have received overwhelming response from the learners.
How insightful was this TEDtalk! As an aspiring English teacher, this video, although it has been published for a long time, it's still valuable and completely motivational for me. Thank you , TED, for including such wonderful people with wonderful things to share! I truly love this channel.

I am a teacher for a long time already but still I am awed by this video... I couldn’t remember the number of times I watch this...so inspiring...
the point on 'deciding' to love even when u dont want to "inspires and motivates in a powerful way", is so on point! ( Y)
I wish, one day I could become a teacher like him ❤ , much inspired speech, thank you so much sir.
currently studying for my methodology finals, this TED talk inspired me so much, I wrote down everything in order to make my classroom the place of the 6 Cs Joe Ruhl lists in this Video. What a great mentor.

what an incredible talk, what a lovely and driven man. Thank you Joe Ruhl for your heart for students
I'm a teacher, and I'm totally inspire from this Video, thank you for delivering this useful knowledge about teaching.
Agree,
Tks Colleage, you speak to the soul of, not only individual [teacher or otherwise] but also of a nation. I am a product of a culture where CARING absent and a teacher is seen as tecnician who works according to officials prescription...
I wish this kind of talks were the focus of most of our PDs!!! Thank you so so much! I can’t wait to see my students again on Monday))
The joy alone is heavenly 😍😍
💯💗✅
I loved, so many teachers. Not because I was a smart, precious student but because, they were amazing teachers. I think of them so often that I worry for their wellbeing. I can comfortably say that I think of them as my parents. They are secondary parents to me. No one else besides my parents and my relatives has given their time for me as they did. It is crazy how important they are to me. All of them under one roof, it was unique itself. There are no words to describe it. They are the type of people who would worry for their students at night, sparing their sleep time. I want to see them again. The world is not fair.
As a teacher in my 20 years of the career I always teach with love and I can see the fruits. I love to be a teacher!
Those students are very lucky to have a teacher like him.
I can't find the words to describe how much your words are beautiful and inspiring . As a teacher i would watch this video over and over again . Thankyou Mister !
I wish they had a love button!! You are inspiring to us teachers... 21 years. I forget sometimes whats important.
I missed such a rare and unique teacher during my discourse of biology. I wish him a very good luck, to touch and magnetise many more students in his field for betterment of humanity. Thank you for the innovative ideas and executing those. Your love and caring would ever increase with passing time.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I wish my kid had a teacher like you ! Love, respect and prayer for you. Kudos!
Excellent, Mr. Ruhl. I believe I was a first year (1984) at Purdue when you were graduating 1985 or 1986. I have been teaching since 1988 - in the Peace Corps (Togo, West Africa), The Orchard School 1992-2006, Marian University 2006-2024, and now working at IPS School 96 K-12 Special Education. I also lived in Lafayette, IN from 1975-1977. We should meet sometime - we have a lot in common regarding teaching. You're teaching methods for inspiring students of the future is SPOT ON. Bravo. If you get a chance, look me up.
Im a CPS teacher in Chicago and I love helping the students but I bore myself and the students. I teach how I was taught. This video just woke me up. I think I may be able to like teaching as much as I should. Thank you.
Thanks God I found this! Excellent! I love everything about his talk, so inspiring. Thank you Sir Joe Ruhl!
Having felt a little overwhelmed this academic year I've found this video motivational and comforting. Thanks for posting!
from what i saw he is a very good teacher, love how creative and openminded he is.
I am teaching for 45 years and still I love to teach. Applying 6 C's in my daily routine as a teacher makes me fell so good. Working with students ranging from regular to special needs with ammunition of 6 C 's makes my day fruitful and enjoyable. Thank you so for your inspiring talk. Being a science teacher I can relate to your ideas very well.

I never thought i will go into teaching cus of the experience ive gotten but now i have realizes that teaching is more than being to serious, it is more to sharing ideas been creativity, impacting your technical know how on the younger generation and be celebrated someday.... Now it inspireds me to keep pushing through.
As a teacher This video really impressed and convinced me to go on working with the students the way I do. Explicitly stated.
Gotta repeat - just great. Not only a perfect speech, but content-wise a perfect attitude! THIS is what school teachers miss out, this is what the school system (at least in most german schools and universities) miss out! Thank you for this words
This talk inspired me to really pursue teaching , because this made me realized how wonderful you may feel to be a teacher that touches the students with all your heart. Thank you ❤😊

This is the real power of words for inspiring all the students and the teachers. This video is really worth watching for all .
Class act never grows old. Enriching and inspiring. The talk leads me to remember and honor all my teachers who made a difference in my life. Even chatGPT makes the reassurance that AI will never be able to replace teachers who continue to make themselves relevant and touch young people's lives.
it is really amazing. Being a real teacher is not an easy task. it needs working hard, LOVE and CARING
The best message for a teacher: my love has to be not emotional but decisional, inspiring and motivating!!! Thank you!!!
This is too powerful to watch. Such an inspiration for young teachers like me.
ABC
Thanks, as a teacher, it makes me cry. I really feel your words.
That's love what really helps us to do our job.
Thanks for sharing, it takes courage to be so simple and heartfelt.
This man is the definition of a great teacher. Respect to you sir!
I'm a teacher and I love this presentation so much.👍
I'm so glad to hear from you Mr.
Thank you!! This is the best TED talk I have ever seen. It can actually be learned and applied. I am taking notes!
Most be the best teacher ever!
I'm a teacher. And I will keep watching this over and over until I do everything in this video. Thank you sir for this incredible emotional talk .

The last technique "Caring" touched me. It really fulfils the purpose of teaching in a real sense.
I've had several teachers like this guy; I wish I had thanked them all.
Wow! Inspiring and full of takeaways. It all starts and ends with caring about the subject and the student. I love it.
Coach Carson uuhtyyyyy
I love the foundational concept of what Joe Ruhl said. I watched this video about 2 years ago, for the first time. And I talked about and shared it with many teachers I teach. This style of teaching is becoming even more important in the current COVID19 environment where we are now challenged to create a virtual learning environment that meets the learner's needs, TODAY! Applicable for both adults and children.
Hello my school is one of the best
So if you will like to make me your child home teach that will be good

I've been using #TH-cam since last 5 or 6 years I remember, I've never watched such an exceptional video by Tedx Talks ever. I am commenting on any video for the very first time. I am trying to be an effective teacher for many years. I always thought that I've become the teacher, but I was wrong and I'm still wrong! I need to learn more and more about the Teaching. Thank You Sir. You made me changed towards teaching. 2 Love :) (y)

Excellent video content! Apologies for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Schallingora Font Storage Scheme (search on google)? It is a great one off guide for finding teaching jobs online without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my friend at last got great success with it.
Incredibly inspirational! The passion for learning and love for students are the most important ingredients
Students will never forget the teachers who inspired and motivated them and were nice to them and taught them well, and also will never forget the ones who treated them badly and bullied them.
I agree! Great teachers stay in our mind forever. Unforunate the bad one as well. Hopefully the best ones made us somehow a better person.

This is wonderful.
I am a student and is passionate of transforming the African Educational to be purpose driven and students centered.
Wow. Even for teachers he's inspiring. Thank you for sharing us this talk. It's not only inspiring but also motivate us. Agree that this is what we should hear and learn in our PD. Highly respect!
I wish I had such an insightful teacher. What an inspiration!
Because the greatest of these, is love. That was powerful.
As teachers we need to understand that we can teach effectively only if we get the attention of our students and are able to inspire them.
that is really wonderful ,we often r busy to finish our portion in syllabus and so loose our relation ship with our students.
Teachers are summoned to provide the foundation of the entire human race. Moral, Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor Skills are the pillars of every teaching process. Teaching runs in my veins.
Thank you so much for your precious presentation.God bless you.
thank u
Kids are just genuinely blessed to have a teacher like you
"And the greatest of these is Love" What an amazing TEDx Talk! I admire how passionate he is about teaching and the love he has for his students. I appreciate the idea of allowing students to learn in the fashion that suits them best.

wowwww... so inspiring... I am not a teacher but I love teaching that's why I started to upload tutorial videos that might help.... His message is truly inspiring
I Absolutely LOVE this video. This is a must watch for next generation educators.
Bravo! Children of all ages aspire to belong, be heard and be all they can BE! As educators, myself an Elementary Special Education Teacher, I strive everyday to empower student curiosity, social communication, emotional well being, brain power (critical thinking) and WONDER through interactive learning.
