This is a grand video. There is a London here on the American side of the ocean. It's London, ON. Some recycling systems even lets you mix the containers with the paper since they have people and machines that even separate both the containers form the paper.

10:29 items like toasters should be set to a separate facility to be taken apart where the scraps can be recycled. Much better than dumping it in a landfill

Rember when Sheffield (the proper on not the us knock off) had blue boxes that was for paper then moved the paper into blue bins then adding the brown bin for the plastics glass and metals... I still end up confused wich material goes where.

Great facility is shown on this video. As we see on begining in animation and as described in scenario in 01:00 this factory is taking two stream lines: 1) paper and 2) containers. But we see in the MRF centre that rubbish are mixed in other way by people from households. In fact there should be explanation in scenario and on animation that this centre is operation on two stream lines but : 1) MIXture [mainly paper, plastic, metal and other in small amount] and 2) BIOmass [this what You can eat and what can find in the garden]. Additionally we need another facility to operate on stream of glass only. 3) GLASS [and sorting them into colors and kind]. Formula number 1 for recycling. X=3, Y=2, Z=1 hence (... + X + Y + Z)=6 and (... X1 + X2 + Y1 + Z1) =9 ... 9 is really good number of bins for one family, but if X=3 you child has use only 3 or if teenager 6, becouse can carry bags with rubbish to outdoor. If you want more just multiply variables in equation. Sometimes this is necessary. This formula is based on Nicola Tesla "Magnificence of 3,6,9" and Marko Rodin work, famous diagram with 9 digits on the circle. Please join to the campaign #369SORTWASTE. Thx.

sky news says a lot of xmas waste eg paper cardboard does not get recycled. well if the u.k had to pay to put their black bins out like they do in Ireland they would not be putting it in the black bins. in Ireland we pay 9 euro each time we put the black bin out and also a fee of 55 euro every 6 months.

Ps that is what I'd rather BTW. UK has the biggest tech industry in the world (yes above Japan ) yet we don't do anything with it. We just sell it on. Either due to our incompetence of successive govts or our incapable educational facilities that don't teach you skills only how to be the best at being paid welfare (it seems) who knows. But what I can say, more should be done.

You are doing an amazing recycling job. I don't know if anybody is still reacting so long after the video has been released.
I'd like to hear some figures: The waste of how many households is collected here? What is the yearly output for glass, paper and plastics, each separately?
How many people are working at the recycling centre?
Where does the sorted plastic go to?

Please tell me what is the net profit in US dollars that you do make for example in a ready to go bundle of Aluminum? How about plastic? and on cardboard paper?

Coming from a country (Switzerland) where citizens do this themselves (sort all materials at home and bring them to recycling "stations" throughout the country before being transported to specific recycling centers) I was quite surprised to find a single blue bin for all recyclables in North America. Both systems have their advantages, but I guess at the end it all depends on how affordable manual labor is...
I've also heard that here in California, plastics are shipped to China to be sorted since boats carry less freight on their way back and to save on labor costs. This is obviously not an option for many parts of the world.
I can't help myself but think it's a real pity that so much is done manually. Is it really that complicated to separate plastic bottles from paper, optically or by weight?

    • @geekytraveler5899
      @geekytraveler5899 5 ปีที่แล้ว

What about the point of view that the savings and profit is that people who realize the need of recycling and help this system to stay sustainable and profitable (such heavy processing can't survive for long without being profitable) is also the fact that they don't contribute in things like floating island of plastic trash next to North America of size equal to France? What's your numbers in US dollars that you'd estimate that island? Do you need link, Alex, or you'll google it yourself?

So old toasters are sent to the landfill, instead of being placed in a "scrap steel" pile, and then sold off to the scrap yards? Not sure what you'd do with the diapers though. Perhaps send them back to the idiots who put them in the blue box in the first place.

I always wonder why they call for things like pots and pans to be put in the trash, when they can obviously be scrapped. Although the list of things that can be recycled here (Colchester county, Nova Scotia) is getting longer, so hopefully someday we can do something about it.

Some places have MIXED METALS recycling ability. Perhaps London, Ontario will start one, or at least send theirs to such a place. The mixed metals recycling often includes a hammermill to break apart large things into smaller chunks that can then be more easily separated. Automotive recyclers do this a lot, so maybe the mixed metals could go there.

On every block, there is a little store that pays cash for your sorted paper, plastic, metals, glass, tires, batteries, etc. Oh wait, that was forty years ago back in Europe.

Old toasters would contain copper wiring. Copper is considered a containment in the steel business. So they wouldn't want them in the steel mix. They can be recycled but they would have to go to a place that can break them apart like a scrap metal yard.

@@regould221 still can recycled. The average Joe shouldn't be sorting waste out. That should be a company issue. If you are cutting wages then make more r and d on machines that have that technology to sort out the same as a person can.
However we have that tech. The problem is companies don't have the will to do it.
