Burst into tears in the middle of making waffles for my kid as the results were called. Like, full on ugly crying out of nowhere. It was four years of repressed emotion. I called my mom and my bestie on a video call and we were all crying and saying "it's finally over." I know half the voting population supports him, but damn, for the other half, the rest of us, these last four years have been like living in an alternate reality where nothing makes sense. I moved abroad in 2017 and every time someone asked me where I'm from, I always felt a bit of shame saying I'm from the United States, then sadness that I had to be ashamed of the country I love. The other side really has no clue how much this presidency has tarnished our reputation abroad. How much they laugh or scratch their heads at us. But for the first time in four years, I'll be proud to call myself an American.

I’m crying too. I’m not in America. But I spent 8 years there and more of my life loving America. For us outside, America is not a place but an ideal. It’s the land of democracy and meritocracy came alive. Being there allowed me to express myself in ways I may not have been able to in my homeland. Today America has restored herself. I really wish this were true but it is not the case. Don't get me wrong, Biden is a big step up from Trump (who should never have been elected in the first place) but Trump has really lowered America's standards. Biden is not the answer, far from it. And when a president impresses these kids with bad character attributes, like... rudeness, bad sportsmanship, cheating, lying, and the inability to treat others like we would want to be treated (to name a few), then, parents should correct their children.
