    Thanks for those helpful videos. Helped our family a lot in some ways. My wife as muscular dystrophy, we have a now 20months baby girl and some of your videos where inspirations to us and ideas to helps us. I remember seeing the video with the car seat modified to be able to clip it on the wheelchair. This inspired me to get a 2 baby stroller and car seat kit, took the second locking mechanism from the stroller we where not using and got a family friend to weld it to pieces of a old broken chair to attach it to my wife chair. Made it super easy to had the stroller seat or car seat directly over my wife lap and locked in place. Made our life way easier when travelling with our girl. Having to push my wife and a stroller was something I was looking to avoid as it was impossible. Wanted to let you know that those videos makes a huge difference to some people and wish you keep sharing those tips and tricks that you found along the way as it will definitely help people along the way. Thanks a lot from Canada

    Just noticed you were wearing jeans, do you typically not wear shorts or a pair of swim trunks? I'm a fellow quad, so what's your method of staying cool? Bringing an umbrella? Going back and sitting in the van in the AC? Bringing a spray bottle so you can spray yourself down?

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I brought swim trunks but knew I wasn’t going to do much swimming so I just rocked the jeans. It was also unusually cool that day (mid 70’s) so I wasn’t too worried about overheating - if it were hot I’d definitely be wearing shorts!! I usually bring a spray bottle with ice water and keep in in our cooler for hot days. I also have ice packs on standby. Overheating is no joke and I’ve definitely experienced it in the past. I felt very sick and nauseous - learned my lesson.

      @@ParalyzedLiving Brian - I'm sure you had a couple pairs of basketball shorts packed just in case it was toasty at the beach! In my experience, I actually like to spray down with my spray bottle even if I'm just going to be outside for 20 minutes or whatever. I usually like to stay in a shaded area, if available. Some people wait until they're experiencing Autonomic dysreflexia, before they spray down, but it's too late. Get cooled off earlier.

    I used the freewheel for several years but eventually it buckled and parted needed replacing, damaged the footplate and basically was a pain in the ass as I was essentially starting to wheel off at an angle. Then I discovered the Frontwheel which was a far better design and attaches to both the chair footplate and the frame so 3 points and hasn’t failed in 3 years of heavy outdoor use. I did have to buy a brand new chair (RGK) as sadly the Frontwheel was not compatible with my existing chair but tbh the change was worth it. As with everything for wheelchair users it’s all expensive but totally worth it.

    I do have a couple questions. Do you mind who helps push you through the sand? Whether it be your wife, sibling, friend or a total stranger? Also, do you normally just remain in your chair, or do you sometimes get down in the sand with your daughter?

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don’t really mind - anyone willing to push is cool with me. I actually had a random teenager offer a hand at one point and gladly accepted since my family was further away. I was going to transfer onto the sand but didn’t get a chance since I was playing with my daughter, niece and nephew. I figured as soon as I transferred out of the chair they’d take off. Lol There was another para there chilling in the sand but he didn’t have kids to tend to.

    Hi there, I love your videos! I was wondering if you were not going in the water by choice, or because it would be too difficult for you (or both)? If you were to go into the water, what would that process entail? Thank you!

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I have gone in the water at the beach but typically use the beach wheelchairs provided at the beach and get someone to give me a hand getting in the water. They are made of PVC pipe and are made for water. I’ve even had 2 people help me in the water from my standard chair. This setup is not ideal for being submerged and was only intended to give me access to the beach itself. Since this wasn’t an adult only trip and I had my daughter with me, it was more for her so I had no intention on getting in the water this time around. Besides it was only about 75 degrees and the water was COLD! I was good sitting it out lol.

    Wow, it's been a long time in between videos. Hoe you and your family are healthy, wealthy and wise. Jeepers she's getting BIG! The last video you made (that I saw anyway), she was a baby. I think the last video was when you were making a harness for her to travel safely in your chair. One thing you didn't mention Bryan, that I spotted at the end were a bunch of pallets...those are usually free and can kind of act like a sand-free thing...almost like those track pads.

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes she’s getting big fast! Those pallets you mentioned were actually a deck at the end of a long plastic walkway out to the beach. It was built for people with limited mobility and they can be found at many of the state parks on Lake Michigan.👍🏼

    what is the cost of the free wheel and does it work on all chairs or certain chairs.

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure of the cost new because I bought it used. It comes with adapters that fit most rigid frame chairs. It really just depends how your foot plate is set up. I know it won’t work on folding chairs with flip up foot plates.
