I wish wheelchair and other aid related things were affordable. I love my wheelchair- I have an off-road all terrain chair I love it out of everything I own it’s literally my favourite...but I really wish I could afford to make it more useable for me like I’d get E-motions if I could afford anything id pretty much just ask for them and a few adjustments to my foot rest and that would be about it.
Yeah I agree with the expense of these things. They’re too much and most insurance doesn’t cover them. However, I’ve heard there are grants for certain things. I believe it’s worth a look into
Excuse me if this is ignorant, but I know they are making less-expensive things these days with like, 3D printing. They can make a stethoscope that usually costs over $100 for about $3 or less I think with 3D printing. And it works as well as the best "gold standard" stethoscope. Someone wrote a scientific paper about it. I think there must be a way to design these things to work properly, really well, but less expensive. I think it's hard to make a profit, since so few of these chairs are made. So to make a profit, each individual one has to cost a lot. But instead, if it's more of a DIY or not-for-profit/free design, then somebody could make it cheaper, since the goal wouldn't be to make a profit, just a good design with high function/reliability for a low price. Hopefully someone can take an "open hardware" approach, to bring the price down? Bonus: with all the original design files being released, people could tweak it more easily for each person's unique specifications and needs. I guess it's just an idea. I wish I personally knew how to do this, and then I think I would do it myself.
I agree with you, Em. Anything that has "Medical" attached is uber expensive and, for the majority of us, it's unobtainable. I can't even get a decent chair. Im an amputee and the one leg I have doesn't work very well. My chair is all I have to get around and do things. Maybe I have the wrong people helping me out? IDK. I become very frustrated when I see other people with custom chairs and I'm stuck with the garbage I get.
Sad that you guys have to pay for all this stuff that you need to live a comfortable life. We get it all funded over here in my country. I can only imagine the stress with not being able to afford these kinds of things.
I used to build and deliver wheelchairs and other medical equipment and it was largely the best job I've ever had. I met all kinds of great people and our equipment was good, but I could always see that improvements could be made in most cases. Fast forward 14 yrs and I see that some amazing innovations have happened. It was an outstanding experience to watch this video. Thank you so much!
The SmartDrive was life changing for me. It makes pushing long distances much easier and less straining on my shoulders. Hills and long inclines are no longer a struggle.
I literally just got home from picking up my very first custom wheelchair when I saw this video. I would love to see a full video about picking a chair, options, accessories, etc. For most of the process I’ve felt like I had to do all of my own research to make any progress, and knowing the technical differences between two different options doesn’t mean I understand how those differences will play out in real life. And even if one option is a little better, is it better enough to justify the difference in cost/weight/whatever? I’m fine making tradeoffs to find the best tools for me and my lifestyle, but I have to know what those tradeoffs actually are first. Getting my first custom wheelchair has been really intimidating because there was so much to it and once the order form was sent out all I could do was hope everything was close enough. Unrelated, but thanks for making a point of asking about catheters for women. I don’t need them myself, but it’s really easy to overlook options that don’t directly apply to you and I’m sure the information will be super helpful for someone else down the road. I agree. Picking a new wheelchair with no information can be a guessing game. Working on making a video happen! You’re welcome! I do my best to try to include everyone. That dog leash seems to be a really popular!
I think it would be a lot more ethical when showing one of these products to discuss it's price. Let's be honest here, very little of the tech is new, very little of it is more complicated then any modern mountain bike yet they are priced like second hand cars. Same goes for parts. The price gouging needs to start being called out.
This is so cool. I live in Canada and Germany. I'm a Walker but have seen offroad chairs, its amazing. Mobility is so important. It makes me sad and angry when someone can't do what they love because of the price. Way to go, push your limits to the max! We live just once.
I am a 30-year post-injury low-level quad. I have no idea this convention existed. I am excited for life-changing opportunities it provides. Thank you so much!
I’ve only been a wheelchair user since January ‘19 (9 months) and seeing your videos has not only helped me become more independent but more confident too. I’m in the UK and don’t even have a wheelchair of my own yet so it’s a very long process and I’m hoping to get a smart drive for when I go to university so I can be just like everyone else❤️❤️ Thank you so much ❤️
Well I found out today watching your video why I am in so much pain after going out on my wheelchair. It's got to be the vibration! When I go out, I need a couple of days rest to recover my strength as well as lots of painkillers. Never realised it is the actual wheelchair that is hurting me!
Wheels2Walking I really wish I had either a place to go to or someone to meet me to get the best wheelchair for me and my life. That powered trike. Also power assist add ons for manual wheelchairs needs to have more simple options. The “tank chairs” would be absolutely awesome to have here in West Virginia, it’s just way to expensive for someone with a very limited income. It’s crazy how much we take “the shortest distance between two places” for granted before being in put in a wheelchair. Spending time looking for a way to get in to buildings or having to go around areas because your wheels sink into the soft ground or you exhaust yourself trying to go 10 feet in a grassy area...
I work a lot with people who are in wheel chairs, currently with folks who have IDD's, but this is so relevant to me because it helps me have more and more understanding how things work for folks
I found your channel less than 35 mins ago. I am now on my third video and definetly getting ready to binge watch the crap out of your channel. What you are doing is amazing and refreshing. 💪🏼🔥
The smart drive is something I'm highly likely to get for my uncle. He recently had an injury caused by repetitive strain caused by pushing the wheelchair. This'll let him move without having to use his muscles as much. It doesn't sell at my country but it does at a country nearby, and it's only about a 23 hour drive away. All I need to do now is plan a road trip and we're set.
Your videos are inspiring! I have MS and have been dreading the transition from walker to wheelchair... watching your videos have actually gotten me excited for the possibilities! I now believe that I will be in a better place! Meaning MORE places with a wheelchair than the struggle with my walker. Thank you! Keep up the fantastic work!!!
I myself have an Action Trackchair. I would recommend it for those wanting an outdoor lifestyle, or otherwise for individuals who want to go hunting. Powerful enough to get through the densest brush and able to conquer various types of terrain. Just got a snowplow for it recently as well and gave that a test. It really does look like a tank with it on. Edit: To add some details: the one I have, the ST, has a 5 hour battery life, can stand up to 8 inches of water, and can go both up and down fairly steep terrain by shifting the chair forwards or backwards to change the center of gravity.
I really like this guy and his openness about his disability/abilities. I wanted to say it takes away stigma about people with his condition, but, after checking the definition of the word. I wouldn't agree with that comment. So, I'll say I'm happy he is a very open person who iswilling to inform the community about things that the average person probably doesn't know. I have had friends over the years (surprisingly.) Some of them had disabilities, but, I never treated them different, unless it was a request by them. They are just as normal as the rest of us. You would cut to the front of the line if you could get away with it. Maybe that sounded wrong. IDK, My point was they are happy, so be happy for them. Technology has came a loooong way.
I think it is awesome that there are such creative people to improve people’s experiences in their daily life. Just because there is one tool, which a large number of people uses in their daily life, doesn’t mean that updates and new innovations are not helpful. Just with any other productions I think wider range and especially customizability can have a huge impact on an individuals experience!
Or, buy a used ATV/side by side for a fraction of the cost and end up with twice the speed, ten times the reliability, and you can have any and all parts delivered next day to be installed by one of dozens of local shops.
And when you get old like me. Just buy the rock climbing thing to pull your fat rump up on em. I’m gonna get one of those so I can get in an excavator!
this is one of those random videos i would never ever search but i’m so glad i’ve watched!!! i just graduated college with a transportation design degree and i’m so inspired to come up & design something for your community!!! AND, both of my parents are physical therapists so for sure this is gonna be a family project! thank you dude!!!
From what I understand it’s really quick with the motor is has in it now. Top speed is 20+ which is twice as fast as the bird scooters. Idk how fast it gets to 20, but electric is wild these days
I'm a huge outdoorsman, and personally own an action trackchair. They are great, if you're going to do anything off the beaten path, they are well worth the money. Love the videos man keep up the great work.
The smartdrive is most definitely cool and will improve your quality of life for many reasons but my 2 top examples are 1- if you have a shoulder injury, you won't have to rely on someone to push you around and 2nd is that it will save your shoulders for the long term. My only complaint in my many years of owning a smartdrive is the watch!! I've had 3 go bad for the same reason. Which has to do with 1 of 2 reasons and maybe both - I live in Arizona so I think that it has to do with the heat or sweat making it's way into the watch. This seams like a defect not user error or the age of the watch. Mine is currently broken and for several reasons I'm not in the position to perches a new and permobil doesn't work with you on resolving this. Something to keep in mind.
Watching this again for a second time, I was more mobile the first time and didn't commit as much as I should have to memory back then. My arthritis is getting worse and I'm now going into a custom chair ASAP. I've done some serious damage with a hospital type chair over the last 10 years. I spoke with Josh and Rene at Ki Mobility going Catalyst 5 in purple with frog legs forks. Also submitting my application for service dog, hoping to be matched soon
I was the original tester of the Action Track Chair. Unbelievable product and the people that manufacture the chair are also phenominal people! Therre is no possible way to go wrong with one!
Have you ever come across an accessible shopping bag system? At present, apart from asking people to put my shopping into bags, that I've hung onto the back of my chair, the only solution was to wear a backpack on my front. It would be awesome to have a system which let you pull a bag from behind you to your side, fill the bag and get the bag back behind again. Keep up the good work.
I go to the Swedish version of an abilities expo every couple of years when it’s held in Gothenburg which is only an hour away, going to the expo is so much fun! I love it so much I have to go two out of three days despite how much pain I get when being out and about a lot and traveling, and the PEM from outer space afterwards. It’s worth the extra pain and fatigue to visit an abilities expo! In 2015 at the expo I found the kind of wheelchair cushion I’ve been using since shortly after the expo (I’m on a StimuLITE Contoured XS) And in 2017 I happened to try a wheelchair with Surge rims on it, and I liked those so now I have Surge rims as of October 2018. At this years expo I tried the Smart Drive to see if that could be something for me due to my shoulder and hand pain and times of feeling totally out of power to push myself, now I’m in the process of getting a Smart Drive (need medical statement that there’s no medical reason I can’t drive a motorized chair of any kind, I drive a car so that document is really just for the bureaucratic bullshit!) Have an appointment with my new GP now on the 11th and it’s actually the son of the GP I’ve had for almost 8 years so I’m hoping he will trust his fathers assessment of me along with making up his own impression as well, he’s said to be a very good doctor who’s loved by both patients and colleagues alike so I’m hopeful! Now I just can’t wait for the 2021 edition of the abilities expo in Gothenburg! Hopefully going there with a Smart Drive on my chair to make it easier to get around. Hoping to see some catheter companies next time too, this year none of them were there. It’s just nice to see the different types of catheters (and surprise surprise I was introduced to self catheterize myself in the 2013 expo when a consultant panicked a bit about me not going often enough. Took until I think autumn 2017 before I actually got to see a urologist, and now I have catheters at home myself, of the same brand that I initially tried: LoFric Sense! Nice and compact but I’m going to ask if I can please try the Speedicath Compact instead or have both at hand because I do love the format of the compact, it’s just for some reason I’m more likely to bleed when having used the Speedicath Compact vs the LoFric Sense, I have noticed that Speedicath Compact seem to have a slightly bigger tip than the rest of the catheter though, but it really shouldn’t make that much difference one would think, I’m using Ch14 catheters either way, flow in a Ch12 is just too slow (I even managed to get a complete blockage in a Ch12 Foley catheter in less than 36 hours of it being put in (it was standard procedure for the surgery I was having- hysterectomy) Sometimes though, it’s tempting to just ask my local clinic to put in a foley on me, it was heaven to not have to get up to pee and my pattern vary between peeing every few minutes to only peeing twice in a day, and it doesn’t matter if I just a catheter or pee on my own, I still have to get up to do it
I love the abilities expo, I end up looking forward to it each year. The American ones seem bigger than the Toronto one, but they've only been coming here for a few years, so that's probably why. I like those suspension wheels and I really want one of those bikes! I'm also looking at that hands-free dog leash so I can more easily walk my monster dog.
I’ve seen the all-terrain wheelchair in action on the paintball field. The guy who uses it was a vet who used it to play. He also build a mesh frame around it so that he could be a mini-tank. He had special rules for mini tanks apply to him
I just spent 3 hours watching this video. Every time a site was dropped I’d look at the ENTIRE website for like an hour. I will definitely be there next year.
I just got the Ki catalist 5 vx and I have to say, I am so impressed! It feels so much more like a ridged frame than a folding frame It is super light, it rolls smooth and i don't need nearly as many pushes to keep up with my able friends 10/10 would recommend anything by Ki mobility!
When I was a kid in the 80's,, or even in my 20's after years of wheelchair use I still had no interest in mobility stuff, a chair was a chair, but these days the tech and options available, not just for chairs but other stuff, has made it really interesting.
Hi :) I have a birth defect called Spina Bifida, I'm paralyzed from the waist down and use a wheelchair. I actually found your channel by looking up wheelchair bearings because I needed to learn how to fix mine. I had NO clue there was even such a thing as an abilities expo!! This was fascinating to watch and I need more of this, lol I want to try all the things you showed and it really gives me hope for our society!
I love watching all your videos, my dad is in a wheelchair and I’m always looking for things to make his life easier, I appreciate all your videos man, keep killin it
I'm not wheelchair bound, but my wheelchair bound friend and I have both decided that we need to plan a camping trip around those Bowhead Corp three wheel bikes. Those look like so much damn fun!
Personally I have never seen a wheelchair bound person - ever! I am not wheelchair bound either, there are no chains, straps or anything like that binding me to any of the 3 wheelchairs I have (I sometimes use a safety belt though, but that is not equal to being «bound»). I love my wheelchairs though, they enable doing a lot of things that would be literally impossible, if I didn’t have these neat technical aids❣️ If it hadn’t been for these chairs and the accessible van, I would have been stuck at home. So, again, I am not bound to any wheelchair (bet your friend isn’t either!), my wheelchairs are more like having wings, if you ask me - since they can change people’s situation a lot - all for the positive❣️ Just sayin’❣️🚼♿️⏭♥️
so if you put the anti-vibration frame on some anti-vibration wheels, you could coast and not feel a thing thats probably like riding in an off-road SUV like a Jeep
I LOVE the Action track chair, in fact, was the very first "tester" of that chair! but you cant plow snow worth a damn with one! you MIGHT be able to clear up to 1" of very fluffy snow from a very small driveway with one.
I actually own an outdoors chair the brand i have is trac fab and literally that thing is amazing!! I take it everywhere, I use it for hunting, walking my dog anything. I am so blessed to own it and really wish anyone that wanted one could have one! Also in the process of getting of getting a smart drive so excited!!
I can recommend the leash, I got it to use with my walker and because I have a movement disorder so I was always worried about dropping the lead/leash. This works. There was no worry about that at with this style. I am really happy to see there is a place I can buy a replacement for my old one when I need it. Thank you for this awesome video!
When I go to Disney World they ask me to walk or use a wheelchair for the lines. I push the chair and lean on it if I can. The first item is something I would love to have. Wow! Thank you for sharing. I am passing along this info!
I'm getting a wheelchair for the first time, and getting a tilite with the smart drive. It's super cool and I can't wait to have it so I can get around easier. Thanks for the videos dude, I recently found your videos and I'm glad I found your channel.
Its always interesting to play tetris with wheelchairs at summercamp when we have a ton of wheelchairusers and some of them don't have folding chairs. We have big cars with a lot of space, but if you need to fit 3/4 wheelchairs and some other walking aids into a car it gets difficult :) but we are all experienced tetris players now. And sometimes one wheelchair gets broken up into 2 cars (wheels in 1, rest in the other) :) its always fun
I'm new to paralyzation, may I'll be a year in, Im glad I found this, coming from where I came it is a hard adjustment, but champions get up, even when they can't, I see this here already
I dont need a wheel chair, but i watch the channel as i had a spinal injury as a kid i fully recovered from it (i had disks break in my lower back, i have peices of metal in place now and i have full mobility) i watch it to see what my life would have been like if i didnt recover from the fall out of the window
Granny here watch you so often , you are My motivation some days just to get out of bed (firm rule bed is for sleeping) and you continue to make me see limits are often what others set for you. Once I thought cane, walker or chair were steps toward loss of independence, not any more! I have the first.two and use IF I need, if I'm a bit slow go ahead I'll catch up! But I will get there on my own! Thanks
This young salesman is A++ 👌
Grant was freaking awesome!!
rocking a rolex hulk as well.....

You should do a collab with Jerry Rig Everything!
I want to really bad! He’s actually engaged to a wheelie girl! It’s the same one he made that awesome electric bike for!
Yessss! Cambry! That’s what made me think you should collab with him! It was awesome seeing the chair he built her.
I want to at least ride it one day! Would be so cool.
@@Wheels2Walking I thought so...can't blame him really! 😋

To add some details: the one I have, the ST, has a 5 hour battery life, can stand up to 8 inches of water, and can go both up and down fairly steep terrain by shifting the chair forwards or backwards to change the center of gravity.
Jerry Rig Everything is gonna love this
I really like this guy and his openness about his disability/abilities.
Technology has came a loooong way.
tank chair is sweet give those with limited mobility more freedom to go out in nature and enjoy it.
Can't believe the action track chair is less expensive than the 3 wheeled bike. I want an action track SOOO bad now!
Yes! PLEASE do an in detail video about choosing a wheelchair...ultra-light versions.
That Bowhead Bike thing would be super awesome with like a 250cc four stroke dirt bike motor in it. I'd love to have a go in one of those.
From what I understand it’s really quick with the motor is has in it now. Top speed is 20+ which is twice as fast as the bird scooters. Idk how fast it gets to 20, but electric is wild these days
I would love to see you make a video about how to choose a wheelchair and options/accessories!
Imagine if they all combined technologies (wheelchairs), wheelchairs would be lit
Honestly like imagine the Ethos with those suspension wheels and the smart drive
I am a full mobile person but the rock climbing chair looks SO FUN!
In my chair 2 years, love the items in this video. Your vids have helped me more than you could know.
If I was in a wheelchair I would just go to the supermarket in the tank chair
Hahahha yessss that would be epic
I went to this exact event and my little brother (9 years old) just wheeled up to me in the wheelchair tank.... it was a sight to see.
As a person in a chair, I want to do that now!
The Ethos chair with the Softwheels should be a pretty smooth ride.
I was the original tester of the Action Track Chair. Unbelievable product and the people that manufacture the chair are also phenominal people! Therre is no possible way to go wrong with one!
Your channel is good for me because I getting a wheelchair and I'm learning a lot.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought 'That would be great for a wall-e cosplay'
Have you ever come across an accessible shopping bag system? At present, apart from asking people to put my shopping into bags, that I've hung onto the back of my chair, the only solution was to wear a backpack on my front. It would be awesome to have a system which let you pull a bag from behind you to your side, fill the bag and get the bag back behind again. Keep up the good work.
That push tracker motor kicks butt. You could even have an external battery for longer run time.
I’d looooove to have a longer video just all about wheelchair accessories!!!!!!!!
WOW that tank chair is so cool!
I wanted to take it outside but the “door guards” didn’t let us!
@@Wheels2Walking which is why it needs a cannon attachment... 😈
Awesome video and coverage of the Abilities Expo! I've never been but am hoping to go to it next year.
Even tho I’m not disabled i would so go there to try that tank wheels chair it looks so cool
In 2015 at the expo I found the kind of wheelchair cushion I’ve been using since shortly after the expo (I’m on a StimuLITE Contoured XS)
And in 2017 I happened to try a wheelchair with Surge rims on it, and I liked those so now I have Surge rims as of October 2018.
Nice and compact but I’m going to ask if I can please try the Speedicath Compact instead or have both at hand because I do love the format of the compact, it’s just for some reason I’m more likely to bleed when having used the Speedicath Compact vs the LoFric Sense, I have noticed that Speedicath Compact seem to have a slightly bigger tip than the rest of the catheter though, but it really shouldn’t make that much difference one would think, I’m using Ch14 catheters either way, flow in a Ch12 is just too slow (I even managed to get a complete blockage in a Ch12 Foley catheter in less than 36 hours of it being put in (it was standard procedure for the surgery I was having- hysterectomy)
Sometimes though, it’s tempting to just ask my local clinic to put in a foley on me, it was heaven to not have to get up to pee and my pattern vary between peeing every few minutes to only peeing twice in a day, and it doesn’t matter if I just a catheter or pee on my own, I still have to get up to do it
amazing! im not disabled but have one or two friends who are well happy to show this !
That offroad wheelchair....WOW!
He saved the best for last, the accidental accesible had my eyes like 👀👀👀👀👀👀
I love the abilities expo, I end up looking forward to it each year. The American ones seem bigger than the Toronto one, but they've only been coming here for a few years, so that's probably why. I like those suspension wheels and I really want one of those bikes!
I'm also looking at that hands-free dog leash so I can more easily walk my monster dog.
Those are my favorite things too!
Yes please give us new guys all of the info you can. I'm kinda learning as I go. Only been in the chair since Nov. 2021
I’ve seen the all-terrain wheelchair in action on the paintball field. The guy who uses it was a vet who used it to play. He also build a mesh frame around it so that he could be a mini-tank. He had special rules for mini tanks apply to him
That off road 3 wheeler looks so cool.
I just spent 3 hours watching this video. Every time a site was dropped I’d look at the ENTIRE website for like an hour. I will definitely be there next year.
I just got the Ki catalist 5 vx and I have to say, I am so impressed! It feels so much more like a ridged frame than a folding frame
It is super light, it rolls smooth and i don't need nearly as many pushes to keep up with my able friends
10/10 would recommend anything by Ki mobility!
I think all of this stuff is awesome, this technology seems to be amazing for anyone who is wheelchair bound or has physical disablities
I want that tank wheelchair I don’t even need it I just want to ride in my own mini tank
When I was a kid in the 80's,, or even in my 20's after years of wheelchair use I still had no interest in mobility stuff, a chair was a chair, but these days the tech and options available, not just for chairs but other stuff, has made it really interesting.
youtube suggested one of these guys videos. Im not physically disabled i any way shape and form. so this is fascinating. big respect
I love watching all your videos, my dad is in a wheelchair and I’m always looking for things to make his life easier, I appreciate all your videos man, keep killin it
All of those wheelchairs are epic my favorite is the tractor wheelchair And the Wheels with the Springs TO
The spring in the wheels and the off-road bike are my two favorites!
Your energy and enthusiasm are contagious! Thank you so much for always making my day.
You’re so welcome. Thanks for this kind comment 😊
Love your work so upbeat and positive, my father was a wheelchair user he would have enjoyed your channel for advice info etc,
Finally leaps and bounds in ankle smashing technology
So, again, I am not bound to any wheelchair (bet your friend isn’t either!), my wheelchairs are more like having wings, if you ask me - since they can change people’s situation a lot - all for the positive❣️ Just sayin’❣️🚼♿️⏭♥️
so if you put the anti-vibration frame on some anti-vibration wheels, you could coast and not feel a thing
thats probably like riding in an off-road SUV like a Jeep
We got
Ethos, soft wheel and smart drive from Permobil for everyday use.
Tank for party and fun.
Outdoor and terrain.
Great expo
During the summer I got to try the actiontrack chair (kid size) and boy does it reduce bumps
I loved this advertisement ! I just wish if it was on TV instead of my youtube recommendation 😊
this is a really good one! awesome to see this stuff with your perspective not just some slick marketing
I LOVE the Action track chair, in fact, was the very first "tester" of that chair! but you cant plow snow worth a damn with one! you MIGHT be able to clear up to 1" of very fluffy snow from a very small driveway with one.
Sees video thumbnail and immediately thinks "NO DISASSEMBLE!" :)
caterpillar track on a wheelchair = awesomeness!
This is awesome, something so inspiring about watching people innovate like this.
can’t wait to show this to my do-it classmates
I respect u my man....especialy bc i was almost there where you are and that changed my wiev for people like you....respect💪
Having a buddy that is actually a paraplegic, makes me want him to see this! We’re going to the expo next year !!
Thanks
this is an awesome video to watch being a wheelchair user myself.
Christian Bagg's stuff is always amazing. I can't wait for what that guy is gonna be working on next.
He’s making massive waves and I’m so impressed. Check out his IG for some epic videos he’s put out recently!
