      * 00:32 -- That turquoise Sabina Sabe building is ab-fab! Such pretty tropical, festive colours the Mexicans paint their edifices, eh!
      * My late Mum went to Oaxaca once, and loooooved that city mightily.
👉 Every day is a parade day in Mexico -- There is always an excuse to celebrate something down there, trust.
      * 03:36 -- Gotta love how they call our Hamburgers "Hamburguesas", eh? And of course the coca cola is ubiquitous, as well.
      * Mexicans make their hot chocolate / hot cocoa drinks all with water and not milk as we do here in America. Less rich all in all, but the Mexican chocolate is to die for in terms of its richness, and full flavour.
      * Words to the already wisened and wise: Please make sure when ordering "for hire" cars (what are called rental cars here in America) and other transport, that you check if the license plates (the number plates) match and if you make sure that the car which arrives is that which you have ordered. NOT telling you what to do, guys, just being blunt about how to avoid being stitched up in the longer haul.
      * ¿Puede su taxi esperarnos cuando terminemos de ver lo que queremos ver? means: Can your taxi wait for us when we finish seeing what we want to see?
      >>> Guys, google translate works like a dream, trust!
      But wait, there's more ...
      * OMG, MOLE is GOD, down there! It is a sauce to die for, times a million!!! It is one of the most complex sauces to make in the world, and Oaxaca excels in the making of it. You say it, like this: MOH-lay. There are about one hundred kinds of mole in Mexico. Please do not say it like this: MOH-lee. Say it, MOH-lay, please.
      * 13:14 -- Lloyd, is that a Huichol woven yarn bracelet you are wearing, by chance? It looks good on you, and those Indians excel at painting and weaving just about anything, so be sure to check out more of what they do, if you possibly can.

Hang on, I just thought of what the ruckus, starting at 01:10 might have been: A kickoff to the Day of The Dead Celebrations ALLLLL over Mexico, which truly commences in November of each year.
But, people DO like to get into the spirit of everything a bit early, everywhere, so ... that is what all of the flash-bangs, fireworks and such might have been. I've wracked my brain and I cannot think of what else it could have been, to be honest with you.
      (I could be wrong, though.
      But, I so rarely am. 😉 😜)

I knew you guys would like it there! Mole is amazing! It actually is a very complex sauce that is comprised of over a dozen ingredients and cooks for hours, giving it a complex flavor profile. Puebla, MX is where it comes from. If you get a chance during van life, stop into Puebla and Cholula...they have a church for every day of the year and have an amazing volcano in the background.

Mole is one of the comfort foods for Mexicans. It’s something everyone looks forward to eating when mom or grandma makes it. One of my favorite dishes. Glad you guys went out of your way to look for a restaurant that made it well. As well as the whole mezcal tasting. Love your vlogs. Wished you guys posted every other day !

I had mole in Puebla where it originated. Then in Oaxaca I took a cooking class and we made mole; so fun with 14 ingredients.

Oaxaca is a vibrant city, it's small but it maintains many original features from the colonial days of the Spanish empire and also has many cultural activities.
its gastronomy and its mixture of cultures are awesome 🇲🇽🇨🇿

You have to go to Puerto Escondido. Lots of beautiful beaches. We were there in February and March 2022 and are going back in 2023.

I was in Oaxaca in 1997, a really nice and characteristic city, expecially the "zocalo" ... I hope now it's the same. Monte Alban is totally amazing! Next step Puerto Escondido? 😉 ...

Mole is the famous Chile and chocolate (Mexican) and served with turkey or any meat you like there are different moles. Traditionally turkey. I used to make it a lot. To do it from scratch takes a long time but it’s so delicious it’s worth it. I paused the video before you tried it!

What is the approx cost of living there guys? Accom, food, drinks, transports, bills etc (apart from 500 pesos for the taxis)

    • @emerislinmer
      @emerislinmer ปีที่แล้ว

All depends. I have been here for a few days. Street food around 30 to 60 pesos, restaurants (that I go to)100 to 200 pesos ($5 to $10 approx) Budget hostal/ hotel $15 to $25 a night, $10 in a dorm room with others. Monthly apartment about $300 in a decent area. That's about all I know, heading to Puerto Escondito next.

I didn't like this place. Looked like a prison yard, narrow streets, unfriendly people despite my trying to be friendly, the places where I ate the food was gross (inside the Centro market, a hotel restaurant etc). But it's a haven for good quality dark chocolate and coffee. Overrated place IMO. I saw a video of a couple who lived and left there for the very reason of the unfriendliness of the people. But explore and experience. My experience may not be yours. Mexico is a big country--theres a place for everyone here. Enjoy. Stop listening to US propaganda of this country and mingle with the people and enjoy.
