Give us 28mm f2.8 and 40mm f2, and everyone is happy, and S9 will sell like hotcakes.
Panasonic needs more full frame lenses like this…
I hope Samyang will bring it's 35 F2.8 and other tiny but mighty lenses ASAP to L Mount. I'd be happy. Though the Sigma 45mm 2.8 also isn't too big. I enjoyed the Sony 40mm 2.5 G when I was on emount and these lenses are practically identical in size.
@@andyphotoandfilmEvery brand needs to focus on compact lenses which cover a lot of FL like 23- 45 and that way capitalise on the trend
Not is mostly built to be a totally lame gen z vlogging hot mess. Any full frame should be built for all optimal shooting for stills. Lighting conditions matter, and a small LCD just doesn’t cut it
Gotta protect the Q, they won’t do it.
I actually like the background and natural music 🪴
Agree, don’t worry about building a studio.
@@craigcarlson4022 natural light is cool af
Long live the chicken 🐓❤️
There is no need for a studio. The natural set is great. The audio is just about 7db lower than it should, my only complain.
$200-300 less than the S5ii is crazy. It needs to be more like $400-500 less.
If it's not underpriced, then I look forward to being able to actually buy this unlike the x100vi
also depends on whether it's the currently heavily discounted (in Europe, 1700eur body only) price that they speak about or the original price (2200eur)
The camera looks fabulous.. just a shame it wasn't geared towards photography
Totally agree. If it had a good size evf I would have bought one instantly. I see this as a missed opportunity by Panasonic but I’m not interested in video only stills photography so I guess I’m in the minority.
@@greenbrightly The Nikon ZF was almost the perfect retro camera, except for the flip out screen unfortunately. It would have been perfect with a tilt up screen or an hybrid system like for the GH6 or Sony A7RV.
@@greenbrightly I don't think we're really much in the minority wanting a quality photography based camera. But there is so many influencers and TH-cam vloggers that just want something small and trendy to film themselves with. I think big companies just ASSUME nobody cares about small photography based cameras anymore because of phones. In reality phones suck as cameras just from an ergonomics point of view.. let alone quality.
Just because people tend to use phones over cameras for convenience, doesn't mean that people don't ALSO want a quality camera for the experience outside of casual events.
Im still hoping somewhere down the line, we will get this camera but with body and function like the GX9.. hopefully
@@neobluepill6051if the ZF Did Not have a titling screen? The Zf it amazing, hard to pick out a flaw
Sticking with my a7c for street photo! Thanks for all the info!
Maybe you could also make a video of you singing and playing the guitar!
Samsung back the day has pancake lens as small as this and still being f2.0. Granted that is apsc. but still for full frame we can have f4 and still being tiny.
For years I was hoping Sony would buy the Samsung 30/2 patent or whatever, one of the best pancakes ever :)
I still have the 30mm NX, the colors, sense of volume and local contrast are fantastic for the size. I often use this pancake and when I compare it to my Lumix S 50mm f1.8, I'm amazed by the 30mm, I really prefer the output of the NX, even if the 50mm S is sharper wide open and has deeper bokeh (the NX is about 45mm f3 FF equivalent).
Canon has the EFM 22 F2 lens which is a dream..
Nikon has a FF 26mm f2.8 that is this size
Afaik it wasn't good optically
Nikon Z has 26mm f2.8 af lens, similar in size to
It’s incredibly telling and funny that the existence of the Nikon 26mm f2.8 proves a much better pancake is possible for full frame.
L mount alliance refuses on purpose.
Another awesome video. Enjoy your trip Andrea!
Is there something engineering wise holding back FF mirrorless from having proper pancakes?
A 28 and 40 f2.8 would be absolutely fire for smaller FF bodies but no one except for Nikon seems to be making them. I really wish we had smaller lenses... Or a new GX / GM line. Crossing my fingers for a new M43 GX type camera from Panny someday.
Not really holding back because Canon for example has RF 28mm F2.8 pancake lens
It would be nice to know more about the ports too 🤔
I can imagine we will get a micro hdmi but what about usb c webcam function ms and what 3mm jack + headset port are going to be available?
And if they are going to keep the 3:2 aspect ratio?
An attachable tilting EVF (similar to the one of the GX8) would be great!
I understand Panasonic intention is that this camera will be a everyday/travel cam so its mostly used in the sun and F8 ist fine. I just hope that they will release some more compact lenses for hobby loke 2.8 or 4.
I mean if you want the best 1.4 Lenses and all Features just go for the big cameras and lenses 😂
dear Andrea, any indiscretion regarding an optional EVF?
Guess I will hold on to my Nikon ZF (and S5) until Panasonic releases something similar
If that f8 lens is good and has nice character it would be perfect for “point & shoot” event/party flash photography.
Saluti dalle Marche :)
And zone focusing on the street
Honestly now that you mention that the Pancake lens is a sort of “glorified” lens cap that is included, the disposable camera style, makes it really appealing 🤩, and the camera it self is stunning, would look super sexy with the Sigma I-series
I like the outside vlogs, the noise brings ambiance.
Let us not forget that this camera is full frame, won’t take your MF3 lenses, and has its shortcomings, but still might be something to continue to read about as people use it.
I get the disposable camera argument, but it sort of breaks down because the camera has no flash...
Don't forget it's a CMOS sensor camera, flash is not a must these days
At the Panasonic conference they mentioned the Lumix Lab app, but where is it? I couldn't find it on the Panasonic portal and not even on the Apple Store
Looks to me like marketing decisions at the major camera companies these days are being made by kids and for kids. Forget about what ‘real’ photographers want. Just sayin’.
Maybe for panasonic. I think Fuji and Nikon still caters strongly to photographers. Maybe Canon too
Maybe they can make cameras for everyone. This may not be the one for you but I’m pretty sure they will release other cameras this year.
@@bingbong4848it’s not the camera for anyone who knows anything about actual photography
@@bingbong4848 I agree with you. This is clearly, clearly targeted towards a specific audience. Being mad that it's not for "serious photographers" is kind of silly in my opinion. It's like being mad that the pepperonis on a pizza aren't mushrooms.
More and more manufacturers have a camera like this to fill a "vlogger" niche (e.g. ZV-E1, Nikon Z30). And in a pinch maybe some "accessorizers" and street photographers will also find it useful.
With the S9, Panasonic has looked at the competition and decided that compact size + FF sensor + interchangeable lens mount at a specific price point is where they would have an advantage.
Every complaint has a tradeoff. "Should have been fixed lens" --> lose the ability to change lenses (and sell lenses).
"Should have had EVF & Mechanical shutter" ---> larger size, and they can no longer say they're smaller than x,y,z camera.
Am I saying I think this camera is perfect? Not in the slightest. Like a lot of other people I wanted basically Panasonic's version of A7CII (evf and sort of a mechanical shutter). That camera could still be made in the future. But they have a very specific market and goal with this camera. And it makes perfect sense to me from a business standpoint.
And side note, Panasonic started their S cameras with extremely pro-centric bodies and lenses and there were plenty of complaints that they were too large and heavy!
@@morganmiller7777 it may not be the camera for some, but there's nothing inherently barring it from being used by serious photographers who find that it's useful for their purposes (i.e. small, compact body). Will this be used by sports photographers? Surely not. But some people just need a smaller second body or b cam.
At one point in time mirrorless cameras weren't viewed as being for actual serious photography either. Neither were hybrid cameras good enough for "serious filmmaking". But look where we're at now.
I have this weak spot for the rangefinder style form factor. X-pro2, GX8, ... But I'm team photography only. I hate that I still have GAS about the S9 ... despite not having an EVF... :) Small fast primes I am happy to get as manual focus lenses. But then the EVF really is painfully absent.
I wonder what the video features will be like? It might not really make sense but the video rig nerd in me wants to see what kind of compact rigs people could come up with. Sort of like the sigma fp I suppose
If you asked me why my X-pro 2 is not enough. I love it. It is great. But for fast moving subjects the AF could be more modern. And the only other aspect is... I love the FF look from wide angle fast primes. On the long end we can still have more than enough separation. It's the look that you get with a Leica Q lens wide open that I miss the most.
Last 3 generation of Fujifilm cameras can't keep up Af with sony A6400...but they raised the prices....it doesn't matter the look of them, a.missed shot is a missed shot
How cool would it have been if they made 2 variants
The s9 for video and idk maybe like a s9x for photo
This plus the 18mm will be great for content creators
Does the S9 have decent WR sealing?
Hard to imagine a f8 lens would make sense in many situations but if free OK: though remember you get what you pay for. Photo of Camera did look cool. Thanks Andrea!
Zone focusing on the street
There are a couple compact manual L-mount lenses out there that definitely wont break the bank. I think the Pergear 35mm F1.4 would look great on this camera. I think the free F8 lens might be great for vlogging, but most people buying “real” cameras these days seem to enjoy playing around with genuine bokeh that only comes with larger apertures.
I think your „Studio“ is pretty fine!
I love the idea of the S9 but having just a few months back switched from micro four thirds (Panasonc/OMD) to Fujifilm I don't want to switch to another lens system, or run two types.
Looks a bit like a compact Leica q
If they can make a Leica Lumix branded 40mm F2 that competes with the Nikon Z 40, I'm sold and switching my entire Nikon kit to the Lumix eco-system! looking forward to this.
5:51 Yeah, definitely f8 without build in flash make loooots of sense 😂😂😂
My Lumix 14mm and 20mm are much more interesting. However the best pancake I have used is the 30mm NX, not the sharpest but amazing colors and microcontrast.
Really excited until I saw that 24mm tree trunk and no EVF! Still looking for an affordable (Leica too much) digital replacement for my Contax G2
More news on 2470 f2 and 85gm?
Andrea has the best info! 🤙🏽
26/8 : Does that signal the end of influencers posting every plate of restaurant food they eat. Hope the IBIS works well as those coffee cup art shots will also be out.
is there on camera flash?? it looks like in the top right part of the body that looks like a flash bulb...
AF assist beam. Most cameras have one
$1500 without lens. $200 more with lens included
you know the 18-40mm price?
@andreapizzini Please try to get some info about the video capabilities of the camera. Thanks a lot
great request
i was excited till i saw the size of the 24 and the new lens f8.
nikon has the 40mm f2 thats a small compact lens.
I thinks panasonic need to release more afordable compactmicro four third cameras.
when you have the fuji xt50, xs20 and sony a6700 for $1300-1400 why would i buy this for more and why wouldnt i buy the s5ii for $300 than the s9.
It seems that the screen is lateral, which would confirm together with not having a built-in viewfinder, that the S9 is designed more for video
Doesn't Sigma do a set a 3 small primes, that could work well with this camera?
I am almost certain, they were released a few short years ago, and would be "balanced" on this camera.
Yes. 35mm f2, 50mm f2, 24mm f3.5. Perfect for this body.
I see that pancake well for video shooting with the camera (ff or mft) on a gimbal
The new Panasonic cameras are a nightmare for the producers of gimbals.
I used GH4,5, S1 and S1H and handycam cameras Panasonic and Canon on gimbals Ronin, Manfrotto, DJI without any problems
@@clabart sure you can use them and they can do some unique things but the GH9-II and the S5-II are now pretty close to action cam like stabilization. So hand held operation can be used in a lot of use cases.
Not happy with the full frame format. Give us a successor to the LUMIX GX9 instead.
Yeah the pancake lens is a huge disappointment, but the camera is gorgeous, will look sexy AF with the Sigma I-Series primes
Does it have PDAF?
Supposed to have the S5ii sensor so yes.
Interesting but just misses the mark for me. Give me this camera with a solid offset EVF (like the Leica Q2 or a7CII) and a proper mechanical shutter and I would be fully on board. Hopefully yhey can make something like a "Lumix S7" or whatever they wanna call it that is more for me, more for photography than this thing.
love the idea only the missing evf as the leica Q3 is a no for me.
Is it just the price of the Q3? Yes, it’s a steep price, especially right now. I can send you images that might change your mind about any other concerns about the Q3-the camera is incredible
@@morganmiller7777 I shoot a lot with my lumix gx8 this camera with a full frame sensor is for me a q3 with a better grip as the s9 and you can use a evf on the hot shoe only it’s not a real rangefinder style evf
Sigma FP + 17mm f/4 still looks better than this. Thanks for the updates. ❤
this lens is a nice lens cap for always on, not more. there are even smaller 28mm 2.8 manual focus lenses out (Brightin Star), sure M mount but even with M-L adapter very very small. The LUT thing, well who needs it, fine. I hope one can reprogram that button :D floppy screen sure for the video side. For photo I wished for a tilt screen
They will probably give us an 18mm f2.8 and a 24mm f2.8 instead of 28 or 35. Let alone a 40 f2.
Hope you mention available resolutions and ports
I'm willing to bet micro hdmi, usb-c and 3.5mm jack + 1 uhs-ii slot
So is the S9 also releasing in October/September? I wouldn’t be surprised, lumix has a terrible history of announcing new products months before they release. All the hype dies before the camera even gets in the hands of consumers
Lol where is build in small flash?!
No EVF? 🫤
No mechanical shutter and no ibis. Camera should be like $1000-$1200
he said it has IBIS
@@user-rx6vw6kp1z that was a few videos back but he posted the updated specs recently and no mention of Ibis in the spec list
He said that he forgot to in the comment section of that post. It has ibis @chronocross85
an F8 lenses to turn a 1700 dollar camera into a point and shoot camera - wow - how clever - what next, a Porsche with a lawn mower engine
Anyone who has used sigma fp will know. How big a drawback is the absence of mechanical shutters... The s9 is only suitable for simple videographers like short form. It's not suitable for photography because it involves so many constraints. Of course, I won't stop you from buying. Buying is a personal choice.
This is not professional camera by any means, people run really large TH-cam Channels or Streams for worst cameras, so the market is that group, and other consumers like myself that already L mount lenses. I have the Sigma 35mm f2, that lens would be nice on the S9
lol this f8 pancake is going to be $250 mark my words…
Leica Look Lumix
And then there is Sony not doing anything..just hurry up and give the people the RX1R III..or something like that design que..haha
OK so compared to a smartphone it's heavier, bulkier, more expensive, and gathers less light. But it looks retro.
Making the lens free doesn't make me hate it less, because Panasonic wasted time developing it instead of something useful. It doesn't look any thinner than the Nikon 26 f/2.8 which is a huge fail imo.
You've bought into the marketing of smartphone manufacturers quoting their "fast" apertures. But if you actually account for differences in light gathering due to sensor size the s9 with an f8 doesn't gather less light than a smartphone. Plus you can have a lens in your bag that gathers more light when needed, but you can carry the body in your pocket with the f8. It's basically a bodycap lens.
@@m22235 that night have been true... 5 years ago? The Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a reported f/4.3 FF equivalent aperture which would gather near enough to 4x the light of this f/8 lens. The fact that faster lenses exist doesn't justify this lens. Even as a body cap it's a fail because it's so chunky.
its a 3/10 must try harder
I just want Panasonic to make/continue the gx9...a new or continied gx series will raise the trust in Panasonic....right now I no longer trust them and have dumped all my Panasonic gear...Sony continues to make a quite usable range finder style camera with a complete line of glass...Cheers
F8.... Nah
Fucking NO!
Sorry the S9 looks lame compared to a Nikon ZF. Let's hope it will be so much cheaper to compensate.
Negative
This is crazy stupid. Sigma has tiny 17mm f4. Also this camera should have a built in flash
F8 is terrible
