0:30-3:54 Introducing Justin Hickox

8:00-14:25 Q: How do you keep colored hair looking fresh?
14:25-19:37 Q: Decided to go gray, what shampoo should I use or continue with the same?
19:37-29:11 Q: Is there a good shampoo and conditioner I can buy at Target or should the shampoo and conditioner be pro shampoo and conditioner?
29:11-31:26 Q: Can I use, for example, a purple shampoo from one brand and then a hair mask and conditioner (With keratin) from another brand? Or should I stay at the same line for this session?
31:26-37:45 Q: Justin recommends non-sulfate products, do you still feel that is best?
37:45-42:45 Q: Is there a product that will make your ends “look” healthier without cutting them off? I’m not willing to lose my length right now!
42:45-44:41 Shout out to Summer Beauty and Styles by Summer
44:41-48:17 Q: How do we deal with hard water?
48:17-54:06 Q: How to deal with a cowlick in fine curly hair? It’s below crown level, on the back of my head and is a major pain!
54:06-58:46 Q: I am over 50, and when I turned 40 my hair became wavy/ curly. Why would my hair become like this?
58:46-1:08:17 Q: Advice for transitioning to my natural color (no silver) after dying dark for 20+ years… my hair is long and needs a cut and to grow it out isn’t feasible?
1:08:17-1:08:53 Thanks for joining us! - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
So good! My question is: how to get a stylist to cut your hair ‘younger’ than your age! No matter what pics or ideas I share, I end up with a mom cut. 😀
My experience as well. I changed my hairdresser because she simply wouldn't cut any style except the 'old woman' rubbish. I know a great cut when I get one because I lived in Europe for years and had marvellous stylists.
I’ve been cutting my own hair for 4 years because I ended up with the style they wanted😳🙄
@@lindacastro6625😱😱😱
You Need a new stylist. She/he apparently does Not listen to you! And that is not acceptable. You deserve better.
@@JuneAdams-li9syEuropean hairstylists are SO much better….in the 33 years I’ve been in the US yet have to find a good hairstylist….
I’m one of those who went natural gray (white) at age 58 during Covid after dying my hair ash brown/blonde every 3 weeks since I was in my 20’s. Used the Olaplaex oil to help from frying my hair, and treatments, took 2 dye jobs a month apart to strip all the brown out, and then mixed a couple ice/ blonde colors to get it to the color of my roots and let it grow out naturally from there. Could see there was still a few brown hairs left that then gave me that natural highlights I always wanted. Yes, at 61 I’m embracing my natural color, and I get more compliments on my white shiny hair than I ever did when I colored it. It’s so much healthier now and I can actually grow it past my shoulders for once without having split ends all the time. Yes, I researched the internet and youtube for a good year, until I felt confident enough to go for it. No regrets!
I am so happy for you! That is amazing and so empowering!
I love this comment ❤ good on you for embracing your natural colour, I'm 39 with grey hair coming & it's right on my middle/side parting where it shows the most 😂 I'm not ready to embrace it yet but one day I will. My mum is 78 & still dyes her hair so she ain't ready yet either 🤣
Did you have to maintain the ice blonde color during the grow out process? Very curious because I want to grow mine out too but can’t seem to find a grow out technique that will work.
@@ceciliarodriguez5615
I used a HLA (high lift ashblonde) color by Age Beautiful, and I remember it was most important to use a TONER after. It was all about this! I mixed maybe 2 colors between a T10-T18 by Wella Charm, and I did a test spot before doing my whole head. I bought the Olaplex 0, 1, 2, &3, for building strength and not frying my hair. Lots of TH-cam research shows how just adding a little bit of the oil to the toning or coloring process helps. Used the Olaplex treatments between that 1 month between doing another HLA coloring process and then the toner treatment w/Olaplex. This 2nd process is what really lifted the rest of the color out and got me to my whitest natural root color. Then I let it grow out from there with no grow out lines. I’m not a licensed cosmetologist, but an online DIYer using TH-cam videos. Wrote the info down that I found helpful and saved a few videos to watch a few times over. I still have alot of extra product left over since after the 2 dye/tone processes I didn’t need to do it again.
I started growing my grey during the pandemic and I’m thankful I stuck with all the awkward stages of it growing out. After about 6 months my stylist did low lights in my medium brown/ grey hair and it hid that stark line I had . I only had to do this twice, there were definitely times where I wanted to give up but I kept going. You just have to own it, I’m very confident in my grey hair, it’s so soft and I have so many different tones running through it. I get compliments all the time, best decision I have made!
Guys, PLEASE meet every week
I've tried pro shampoos and conditioners that were absolute garbage, and I've tried budget friendly brands that work wonderfully. Garner is one of those brands.
I had Psoriasis on my scalp for years. I started using a Sulfate free shampoo, and it completely cleared up. I was using Pureology brand but found a brand at Costco that has the same ingredients in it, but is much cheaper; even the packaging is similar. I recommended Pureology to my Mother because she also had Proriasis, and hers cleared up significantly as well.
What did you find at Costco that was as good as Pureology ???? Please I have problems with my scalp!!!
What is the name of the brand?
@@pmelaglover9913 It's Kirkland Signature Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner.
So many people ask about the transition between dark hair and going natural silver. I am 51 years old and went through the transition seamlessly in my mid-30s. I used temporary hair color. I, using DIY at-home temporary hair color, kept up coloring my hair with my normal dark color until all of my roots were grown out and then I just stopped coloring it. The dark faded away to my natural silver hair all grown out. It is actually not difficult at all.
My two favorite “teachers” at the same time! Love this!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!! You are so appreciated!!! 🥰
I wanted to share that for people who have hair parting open due to cowlicks, we can color the unwanted parting/bare scalp area with colored powder to match hair color. Kerry-Lou youtube suggested a brand for gray/white haired people to fill in areas of thinning hair.
Very good idea. That’s what I do. I use osis dry shampoo brunette on that cowlick.
Enjoyed this very much! Yes, yes, yes, please do more of this!
Loved this..two of my favorites and love the interaction. Yes, would be happy to see more of these.
This was such an informative video! Thank you both ❤

Thank you so much for doing this!! Great information!

Great video! Thank you
Loved this! More, more!
Love both of you😊 definitely enjoy you both together. I went through chemo & and menopause all at the same time, not exactly ideal or fun, but it was quick, 8 month and done. To all you grey growers just get past 3 months, is it worth it? Depends if you like it, if you don’t just color it. It’s definitely healthier and cheaper, sometimes… I spend a whole lot on products to keep it healthy, including styling tools. It’s definitely a mind change, Gabi & Justin are correct, nobody even notices the way they did pre Covid.
Congratulations! I enjoy your Channel and love your personality and informative videos. Enjoyed this collaboration
I enjoyed watching this and I learned a lot! Thanks for sharing your expertise with us this evening.

I really enjoyed this type of content! Please do more! BTW I have copper-red dyed hair and in my experience that type of red stays much better than the dark or more fire-red shades. I use a professional shampoo from Wella and a copper-red hair-mask to restore the color every 2 Weeks.
I used to live in Portland where Justin has(d) his shop. Would love to visit. Thank you for the tip regarding permanent color and using hot water. I had a lot of trouble with fading of my perm color years ago. Now I know why!
❤You and Justin are the only hair influencers I watch ❤ …you might be talking about LOreal and Kerestase, but Ive used both and completely adore Kerastase!❤️

Yeah I agree with how nice he is. I’m shocked when he responded to my comment the first time I did it while watching his video. The only thing I’m waiting for is to meet him in person and have him cut my hair. I also didn’t realize that he just started his channel after Covid.
Thank you Debbie! I get a fair amount of negative comments as well so the positive ones like yours always brighten my day! Who knows, someday maybe I'll be cutting hair around your neck of the woods!
Double thumbs up!!!!
I would love to see more videos on aging hair care, styles, products. Etc
Justin is all about hair styles for older women
I am also a fan of Justin‘s channel, so I have enjoyed this video and hope you do this again! 💖
Well this was fun! I appreciate both your POV's and your easy, inclusive take on aging - it's a privilege that not everyone gets to do! However, us older gals are an overlooked demographic, which is odd considering our purchasing power. You'd think the big houses would get a clue, right?
Love live stream got so much information. Colicky, bangs split ends
Great live coverage and I’d love to see more. Can you give more detail on how often you use Nioxin that you mentioned as a brand you use specifically for thinning hair?
Both of you are just amazing 🥰 , thank you so much for this video as well as your regular content 😍. Now I´ll go to amazon and shop a water filter for my shower! Can´t believe I don´t have one already (I´ve thought about it but didn´t think it would work) as we do have VERY hard water in Milan and I use filters for everything else. Will also maybe reconsider the schampos I´m currently using as I started using organic solid schampos this year, kind to the environment and health but not professional schampos so not sure they don´t contain products that might create negative build-up in the hair. I have problems with itchy scalp lately, so for that I´m now using pharmaceutical schampos.
Oh darn !
I missed this live show !
I’m going to watch it tonight !
I hope that you enjoy it Thank you for hanging out with us later!

It was very helpful and you are great together 🩵🤗💜
Great vid Gab. Your set looks great.
Thanks Justin! I totally changed it up. Got brand new lighting, new camera, new lens. The whole works. It was about 7 months of mortgage costs but it was worth it lol!
Thanks, this was great! I'd love to see something like this again! It's a bit difficult for me to find time to watch long videos sometimes, but I get through them eventually. I watched this one in three sections! 😂 The info on silicones was really interesting and I'd love to hear more about that. How does a person know if they have that buildup or if it's something else going on? I also have very hard water, not rust, but calcium and lime, so I'm definitely going to check out that shower head filter! I've been needing one of those for a long time!
I have extremely hard well water and light hair. My hair and and the tub share the same shade of orange. Over the years I have used many things to fight the orange and I have been most successful with Malibu hard water treatment. It is hard on the hair so I use it only once every month or 2. It works great.
I loved this Q&A colaboration format! It was interesting to hear your individual comments & discussion on the various questions. (I hope you'll periodically repeat this format.)
Regarding sulfate vs. sulfate-free shampoo, I heard that sulfate shampoo is more likely to take dye out of the hair so it's better to use sulfate-free shampoo on color-treated hair, if you want the color to last longer. Is this true? What are your thoughts & experiences with this?
P.S. Thank you for suggesting the shower head filter. I live in an area that has extremely hard water.
Thank you so so much for recommending the blow out professor!! Can’t wait to listen to some of his videos
He's going to be joining me on Live Wednesday February 7th! I'm so excited.
Suddenly at 70 my hair is thinning , but I have used K18 and it has made a huge difference on the ends. Plus going back to a really well trained stylist and colorist. It costs 300- + to get. a cut and color.

Hi! I just wanted to tell you that if you're taking Calcium supplements you really NEED to be taking vitamin K-2 along with it, otherwise the calcium Will build up in your arteries & may set you up for a stroke or heart attack. K-2 makes sure that the calcium from your food & supplements makes it into your bones where it belongs, and not clogging up your arteries. Please note that Vit-K, & Vit-K2 are Not the same. You body NEEDS Both, but only K-2 gets the Calcium into your bones.
Also magnesium is also Super important to take along with all of the above aforementioned supplements that you're taking. They all work synergistically. Magnesium is Crucial for a plethora of metabolic functions in the body.
I've read great things about rosemary. Do you sleep in it? In a shower cap? I sure don't want it ruining all the bedding. Thanks so much!
Your story is awesome Justin I would love to get a haircut from either of you anytime !

My hair got so damaged back in June, so bleach blonde was not a great option anymore… I dyed it dark Brown again (level 3/4) and it kept breaking 😅 So, executives decision was to not touch it for a while and focus on repair and moisture. I had to cut a bit off to balance it, but it works. I took inspiration photos of Gaby to my stylist, actually 😉 You were very kind when I asked you on Instagram. ❤ There are some silver strands now when it grows, so I find that moisture, oils and protein balance works wonders to make it look good enough. Blenda well enough for now and I have about 9-10 cm growth by now. I think I have to leave it alone about a year, so we’ll see how I like the salt in my brown 😅
Oh gosh! I love Justin’s videos and I’m 61. I enjoy his videos on how to look younger or more vibrant. I’m not offended even if I don’t agree with something he says. Why? Because I’m 61! 🙄 grow up people

Well, that was so much fun! I saw the worlds collide between two influencers. I really enjoy watching. Lots of good information, particularly in regard to the hard water and going gray which I’m still not ready to do but now I have an idea of what it would take.
Great video, you two! I always thought that you shouldn’t use sulfates because they make your color fade faster??
I have a lot of thin ringlet curly hair. I keep it anywhere from just above shoulder to below. I use basic curl gel like garnier fructose (purple green bottle) I don’t fully rinse my conditioner out , then put my hair loose in a towel, I warm up a quarter sized gel in my hand and spread my fingers and gently hand comb through my hair. I then take a wide tooth comb and comb it out. Then I lay on belly /chest down on my bed with just my head hung over the edge with hair hanging towards the floor and diffuse it upside down! It’s relaxing. I get compliments on my curly hair all the time.
I love Garner too!
You and Justin are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!❤❤❤
I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed this livestream Teri!
yes
When I decided to go gray my stylist put in highlights at the center part and cut a few inches into a new, shorter style.. It was almost seamless. I love my gray hair and wish I'd done it sooner.
Interesting info about red hair color. My daughter and I have been red for at least 5 years. One thing we have noticed is so much depends on the brand of color that is used. Redken was very drying/damaging for both of us and faded terribly (I can use Redken styling products though without a negative impact). The stylist we are going to now is a redhead herself and is considered a specialist dealing with red hair coloring. She uses All Nutrient, a less toxic/chemical line and it has been the best by far. She also washes our hair with a clarifying shampoo prior to applying color she swears this helps with the color grabbing better and it does seem to help. We also wait at least 3-4 days to wash after getting it colored. I have switched to using most all All Nutrient products and my hair is in the best condition its been in years. I am in my late 50's btw.
Would love to hear more of your comments. I'm using many more natural products but good ones are hard to find! Your suggestions are welcome!!
I went gray gray turkey. i decided that while it was still salt and pepper, this was the time. i wore it in a short bob for two years and then when all the dye was out i then grew it out to a length i preferred.
