The biggest incentive for players to actually try in these games is that all the games before the final four count for the regular season. So unlike the all star game, these aren’t exhibition. The Celtics losing to the bucks in the round robin has actual playoff seeding implications so those games will be intense as they normally would be.

But having two championships in one season is so weird. Wtf is the point. It makes a championship that much more worthless

@@sharifnasser7635they are different level champion. The NBA can add a supercup type of trophy where the mid season tournament champions play the playoff champions in a one game series in a neutral arena.
Sounds like a 🔥 idea, November/December is honestly not a bad time games have pretty low stakes at the time

My other thought: money is great, but let’s raise the stakes even more. Make the championship worth 3 extra wins. Or 5. Or guaranteed home court advantage in the playoffs

They should eliminate or change the lottery so that the 14 worst teams compete in a tourney for draft order. This demotes the desire for tanking, increases competition level league wide and is another way for the league to make money

Expect you will have the 8-14 playing the games if any of the stars ain’t 100% like what’s the reason for nba superstars and even all stars to do this? They already have money
honestly tho the con with this is what it'll do to the players bodies playing extra games come playoff time, also, players will have more games to pad up their stats if it's gonna work like that.
The games are all contained within the regular season. The only extra game is the championship game between the final 2

I love it it’s a secondary title for the league the nba cup 🏆 makes the game even more fun starts the season off hot.
In-season tournament can replace ASB. Apart from the incentive, the conference can have the home court advantage in the finals and the winning team will be rewarded with additional draft picks so that even tanking teams have some reason to play for
I think the mid-season tournament feels unnecessary, but it could work if it’s done right.
I think it’s perfect….it wouldn’t work in February or March because of All Star weekend and more teams are gonna focus on the trade deadline and the actual playoff push. It’s great for the beginning of the year when it’s FOR SURE called “boring” TOTAL WIN
I was hoping for a basketball related incentive to win it to really add stakes and motivation for teams.
Perhaps the winner of the tournament gets 5% added to their actual win percentage at the end of the season.
So the team may finish 41-41 and the 10 seed but with their in season tournament bonus they would rank over a 45-37 team in the standings.
The way it's set up now with the play-in it's already like that kinda because the 10th seed can get on over the 7th seed with a much worse record based on 2 games.
And I think after New Years January 1st is the best time to do that because the season lulls most in that month prior to the allstar break.
A % increase is a cool idea. Probably better/ more dynamic that simply just adding wins

The idea is interesting. I've been watching most games, and it helps give minutes to those bench players that see no play time.

The problem is. It's starting at the quarter so winning your group with like 3 points is useless you won't get in. It needs to be Round of 16
They could infuse the mid-season tournament into being relevant for the regular season and playoffs. You could incentivise teams that do well in the tournament to get home advantage in the playoffs, splitting the season wins if teams have identical record or teams that do well in the tournaments replace the 9th and 10th seed for play in spot. That way the good teams will want to secure home court for the playoffs and bad teams are playing for a play in spot. All good and bad teams will want to do their best.
All the new building teams like wizards,okc,Portland,kings,cavs,hawks,jazz,MEMPHIS teams like that should enter cause it will be great for them all rookies on they team most young guys would like this

I feel the NBA can be like the NHL and install a point system. 2 pts for a W, 1 pt for an overtime loss and 0 for a regular L. I think this adds more competition.

Thats a good point, i think itw stupid and a strech by the NBA. Players wont care about this dumb tournament because it means nothing for them. The playoff are the only thing that matters. Maybe if the tournament had something to do with the draft lottery or the ability to have more money to sing free agents. Then that will make it matter.

I still think a relegation/promotion system could be interesting for the NBA. Although it prpbably would be tpo complicated and way too big of a change for the league to handle easily.

There needs to be a championship league and a relegation league like English football. That would make the NBA unbelievably AMAZING. I think Adam will have something like it in the next decade, until then, we have an atrocious reg season, followed by boring quarters and semis.

These NBA dudes grew up playing AAU TOURNEY ball so this is gonna make a better product for sure....they need to do a second half tourney also....it makes sense I know viewing was up so why not do it twice....if you have 2 tourneys Sandwiching the all star game and then the playoffs the NBA becomes watchable all season long

What if just shorten the league but make the tickets more expensive to compensate for the money lost. Im sure people would watch and pay tickets for blockbuster games with a higher chance of a healthy and less fatigued roster. Players will be more inclined to play less but more meaningful games

I really don’t like this. I think this is just the NBA trying to do too much to spice up the already long, boring season (even though this really won’t help). Personally, I think the idea of just giving players money isn’t that great because no organization or franchise will care just about 500k for each player. If I was a team in this I’d be resting my stars.

It is really a bad idea if they having a in-season tournament because they have already a tournament which is the playoffs and one thing I also have to say is the play-in tournament which is for me, is a bad idea. In my humble opinion, it is unfair if the 10 seed team will win the play-in against the REAL 8 seed team to make the playoffs as an 8 seeded team. I want the traditional playoff format back which they not included the the number 9 and 10 seeded teams.

I love the NBA, I love watching basketball, but the regular season is shit especially when your team sucks. I’m a huge Spurs fan, I watch a game maybe once a week max just to keep up with the team and then I watch every game if we make playoffs. NBA playoffs are gas though!
