@@lordmusic6695 Great thing today is that we can so easily contrast and compare to historic renditions. I just love youtube for this. I can start with Louis Armstrong's 'Chinatown' and go through the decades. As an ensemble I'd bet that this is one of the best sounding takes of this song ever--but I have not gone back and checked. My only issue with this is that I wish it were in a different venue. We need bands like this to play in out of the way, huge, re-imagined industrial spaces (turned into clubs) where people could show up and DANCE without spending big money. This music wasn't intended to be symphony hall stuff in the way that classical pieces were. The bands that played them thought of themselves as dance bands. I like to listen especially to Chick Webb pieces because the playing is loud and big and impolite and the beat is relentless.
Listen to Sing Sing Sing (composed by Louis Prima). th-cam.com/video/Xx5JOzqqQoU/w-d-xo.html The dance component is always present in these shows, to remember the Savoy Ballroom...
@@lordmusic6695 Thank you. Louis Prima remains very famous in the States. Also, I think that that is the original Sing Sing Sing. Are you Italian? I think early jazz is more loved in Europe now than in the US.
@@doobeedoo2 Savoy ballroom... When I organized these events I had this in my head. but there are very few fans of this music now... This song came up randomly. When the whole Band joined in, this reminded me so much of Louis Armstrong style of Dixieland. Only thing missing was his trumpet solo and his vocals! RIP Satchmo!
The live show was terrifying... the 19-piece big band, enriched by a section of 12 strings (to tone down the impetus of the winds), two opposing drum sets and two pianos, for the musical battles... An incredible sound front.
This would have to be one of the best live performances of anything, ever - what an absolute joy! The clarinet pull around 5:05 is insane - along with a well deserved cheer!
A wonderful performance! But you forgot to mention that it was Al Jolson who popularized Chinatown and was still singing it right up to the time of his death in 1950. It was featured in Jolson Sings Again and on Decca Records in versions he recorded with the band of my late pal, Matty Malneck.
What a treat, seeing and listening to this constellation of stars. Recognize Rossano Sportiello, Stephanie Trick, Paolo Alderighi, Nicki Parrott, Engelbert Wrobel, Duke Heitger and Bernard Flegar. They all belong to our dearest musicians. Seeing all those smiles, of the performing artists as well as from the professional orchestra, tells you they are all in the grove. All (are) having a ball! Thanks, Paolo Tomelleri and Lord Music, for offering the clip on TH-cam for everyone to enjoy, the next best thing to actually being present. Also, thanks for nice filming and editing. One question, Maewa and William, the great dancers, did they perform as well? This delightful couple can been seen halfway in this clip: th-cam.com/video/Ka_PClx_o5M/w-d-xo.html

I knew “Chinatown, my Chinatown” through a video game but I never thought it would have led me to this magnificent piece. Wonderful.❤

Everyone is amazing but Sportiello is just incredible!!
oh excellent description! 😁
Whenever I want a “lift” I listen to this remarkable performance. I can’t help but feel cheerful and optimistic.

I’m just blown away !!!! Unreal
Meraviglioso stupendo non si puo' immaginare niente di piu' bello! Questi sono tutti dei fwenomeni. Grazie thank you so much for sharing
The quality of the playing here is as great as any ever. We should be honest about that. This is fabulous.
A section of 12 strings, two drums and two pianos has been added to Paolo Tomelleri's Big band for musical challenges. A crazy sound front...

L'apoteosi della plurimaestria del jazz di tutti i tempi! 😍
This is such a great rendition and one that brings a smile to my face. You can see all those taking part are enjoying themselves.
Wow, stunning!!!
What a fabulous swinging band - and brilliant piano playing!!

Looks like St. Louis native Stephanie Trick and her husband, Paolo, on the one piano.
art like this is a justification to humankind
Awesome performance, any one whose spirit is not lifted by this, must lead a very mundane life!
What could be better than this combination!
To say that was awesome would me an understatement.
Thank you so much from Amsterdam.

Greetings from Amsterdam.
Greetings back, thanks for the comments
Unbelievable what talent. Hard to imagine that a group can be this good. I listen to this almost daily.
It is rare to come across such a high level group of musicians. Honestly, I couldn't believe my ears. What an emotion.
The way you captured the essence and nostalgia of that classic tune is incredible, mesmerizing performance!❤

Yes, indeed ... In the Lord Music channel you will also find live videos of 12 swing events that tell the story of swing music, since 1930.
For my money the best pianist of the three is Mr. Tomelleri's band's pianist.
This is wonderful. Does anyone know the name of the third pianist who plays with Stephanie Trick and Paolo Alderighi?
Hi! His name is Rossano Sportiello, he is amazing!
The third pianist is Rossano Sportiello. He is Italian but lives at Greenwich village NYC. Terrific ...
