I didn't want to tag everyone under the sun for this, but if you are reading this and would like to do the tag - go for it! (just make sure to credit Johanna & Allen!) ps, yep, I accidentally turned my "background blur" off on my camera in this video, so that's why all the books look clear. Maybe that's an ok thing?

Yep, among the esteemed Quilluminati, I actually finished Ordinary Grace last, and thus it is impossible that I could have betrayed anyone . . . ever. Lending out comic books is a dangerous business, especially with the Uncle Lowells (spelling?) of the world waiting to crease them. I have many a damaged comic book as evidence. Thank you for the fun video, Brian -- may you never be betrayed, even by yourself!

I'm so honored you did the tag and loved your answers! I hosted an ASOIAF reread-along the year before Bookborn read it. While I've loved watching her journey and celebrated her induction to the fandom, I'm sure many of us were a little envious of the massive spotlight she's acquired for it. Haha! Daniel Greene never mentioned RPGlit until his end of the year awards show last December where his viewers voted the “Dungeon Crawler Carl” series the best. He admitted he had no idea what that was and promised to investigate. Fast forward to now and he is a reluctant fan at best.
Appears he still might be slightly to high-brow for the genre. Maybe Joe Abercrombie will write one and all will go crazy for RPG fantasy!

    • @BrianBell7
      @BrianBell7  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

The genre is only getting started, in terms of mainstream desire. DCC broke through, IMO, in a bigger way than Cradle. People will find the genre addictive. I give no shits about being judged by the "high-brows." I'll talk Book of the New Sun, Malazan, WoT, etc with them anytime :)

God I hated Mockingjay. Just made me want to throw it across the room. And that was the first time I remember actively waiting for a book to come out.
I'll try my hand at this.....expose more my own guilt than others sadly.
    1. Dusted What book did you relish reading that other people blasted through and dusted you buddy reading.........Yeah, I am the duster, 100%. In my defense, I spent three years spending almost four hours in a car every day to get to work (DC traffic is the worst) so I audiobooked a lot. Saved my sanity so perhaps I can be excused?
    2. Book Stabbing What is the book that’s been languishing on your TBR for so long because you keep prioritizing other buddy reads before it...........I still have to start Musashi. I love what I have read of Vagabond and I have really liked Eiji Yoshikawa's work. I'll have to grab it when I go home this Christmas. I didn't bring it here to Europe with me. This question makes me antsy.
    3. Review overlord Name a time you did not want to review or talk about a book because a) someone reviewed it so well first or b) there are already so many reviews/discussions of the book.......Well, I don't have a channel (maybe I should change that) but there are always books which I don't know what to say because it's so overanalyzed like Animal Farm or Lord of the Flies (such good books by the way).
    4. Sold out Name a BookTuber who hyped a book so much that it’s no longer available in certain formats........i don’t think a book tuner has done this to a series I liked. I do remember when Netflix's Witcher came out (don't get me started on that......god awful crap) the first couple books were unavailable for a while. Best thing that came out of that situation was it seemed people were reading the books more.
    5. Damaged goods Name a book you lent out and never got back (or got it back damaged).....I don't think this has happened to me thankfully.
    6. Stealing the spotlight Name someone who has gotten all the praise or attention for hyping a book you hyped first.........I had a coworker who I was friends with for about six months and then he just started to drive me up the wall. Well, I had recommended a lot of books to him. After this he's skipping around the office talking about these books and acting like he had singlehandedly discovered them, along with a cure for diabetes. So petty on my part to let that get to me. It really annoyed me though.
    7. Outlier Name a book that the masses overhyped or underhyped according to your taste.............Samurai's Garden. it's quite short so it wouldn't take a lot of commitment. I would also say books like Under Heaven are underated as far as the Headcount go. I’m also a bit promoter of ancient classics that I think should be taught pre in schools. Overhyped? Well, I tried to read Jade City, it wasn't my thing. Neither was Dandelion Dynasty. Oh! You know what books really confuse me? Phillpa Gregory. What I have read of these books seems to be adult......material disguised as historical fiction which change historical events beyond recognition.
    8. Slump Starter Name a book that diminished your desire to read.......Finding a book to read after Under Heaven, I, Claudius, Dune, Lady of the Lake, and The Last Lion were difficult because they were so bloody good. I also had an allergic reaction to an ancient copy of Foundation that I got from my grandmother's basement but I wasn't paying attention so I just thought I wasn't enjoying reading anymore. Then I invested in the Barnes and Noble edition of the Foundation Trilogy and I was cured.
    9. I told you so! A book you told people was bad but they read it anyway and didn't like it..........I pride myself on being a relatively good book recommender. I did my duty in to my friend in middle school and told her not to read the original, unabridged Hunchback of Notre Dame. She was a real Disney child who loved the movie. I had already read the book, and while I loved it, I told her it was quite different from the musical and to be prepared. Needless to say, she was devastated.
    Well, happy reading all!

First off. A BookTube intro that is at the height of creativity for the genre. So many satirical onion peeling back genX and other references. Dork it on up, Brian.
I have an idea for the DNF challenge. Let the community vote, maybe twice even, on DNFs. Let them vote, and they will know who DNF'd and what. Then you don't have to spend a whole month reaading potential crap.
Uncle Lowel read a comic book like it was a newspaper or magazine. figures.
I know you have the clause in the DNF chanllenge to where the ones who reccomended it to you can't say, "I told you so!" (there is a layer in that)
One for the road. John works for his son in that his son does the majority of the tech duties. Jacob probably lets him do that because he loves his father and and is proud of all the hard work he does to help potentially create one of the top BookTube channels.
    Satire!

Mockingjay- Absolute garbage. Totally agree- just make up your own ending in your head. Making 2 movies of the worst book in the trilogy- why??
My answer would be Something Wicked This Way Comes. For summer reading (a million years ago), I warned my sister not to even bother. I had slogged through it 2 years before and wanted to save her the aggravation. But she bought it, started it, couldn’t get through the first chapter, and then had to go find something else from the list. 😂
