H2O What Happened

- H20, go! Youth crew lives on with their new video, 'What Happened,' fourteen years after their formation. The clip kicks off with Michael Rappaport asking the same question the song's title inquires, and then comes to life with a montage of downtown NYC scenes with guest appearances from Lou of it All in a barber's chair and Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio paying homage to the East Village's Joe Strummer mural. The guys remind us that they still have 'Nothing to Prove' as they dig their influences out of record bins, flaunting a vinyl reissue of the almighty 'Start Today' album.
lyrics
When it began, for those who don't know
It didn't matter how you looked or what you wore to a show
Dress codes, FUCK NO! we didn't care
About the brand of your jeans and all that shit in your hair
But now the biggest part is all about the image and not the art
Fashion before passion!
And at nights, it makes me mad that I should have to ask:
What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
And I know, that people chance
And we go through different stages in life
And I'm not here to criticize
But the reason I scream, is a feeling inside
But now the biggest part is all about the image and not the art
Fashion before passion!
And at nights, it makes me mad that I should have to ask:
What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
h2o - What Happened?
lyrics from www.6lyrics.com
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
Lost (1, 2, 3, 4) lifetime ago it seems
You gave up on your wildest dreams
But I refuse to let mine go
I took an oath, you can find me here
With an open heart and ears
Refusing to surrender
I can't believe they don't remember
What it feels like to be young
What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love? - เพลง
Am I the only one who finds Matt Skiba´s part beautiful and nostalgic as hell?
Nope. We all do. The guy does everything from the heart and you can tell!
No you're not the only one. Gave me goosebumps
Pretty much the only one
@@dylanespinosa149 I was writing gives me goosebumps and saw this comment. For real. Love Skiba
Nope. Skiba kills it
This song comes to an epic lapse in 2:16 I love this part, I'm from colombia, and I come from a not so wealthy family, sometimes I don't even have the money to get into hardcore shows, but I love this music, and what it represents to me...Hardcore gives me the strength to go through everything that life's thrown at me...It made me believe in myself since i found...Now I'm in college, and people change everything they are just to fit in...but I enjoy being out of step thanks to this music andTHANK YOU H2O!
Buena esa!!
Si ya no llores

2021 still true. Miss the good Ol days.
When Matt Skiba starts singing, that's when you know what's up!
i love those lyrics.
I love when he points at strum
"what happened to the reason for screaming?"
they're too right
"It didn't matter how you dressed or what you wore to a show"
Its about the music and the passion of hardcore and punk rock.
Too bad it matter to the actual band...
Start Today, One of the best hardcore albums EVER!!, along with the first Bad Brains album
H20 is one of those bands that looks at life realistically, and they know how to get their message across by their words. They're easily one of my fav bands
i lost track of these guys affter 98...good to see they are still doing thier thing and the message is the same..i remember one of thier first shows with murphys law when they were only a 4 peice with max on drums and eric on bass...and how amazing they were back then that me and my friends would drive all over the tri-state area to watch them play...this songs feel and meaning reminds me of those days and it makes me smile..
Lou Koller is one of the nicest guys. Really appreciates his fans. Legend of hardcore
i know this is an old comment but cannot agree more. .. true hardcore and what it means to be art of that scene !! hes very much a fuck the gate keepers kinda guy!
Totally ❤️it. H2O is one of my favorite bands.
Great song and a great bunch of guys!! Over 20 years of HC for me and I'm so close to turning my back on the scene now because of all the divisions and rifts within the scene. What happened to the music and the message that I love!! H20 have bought a smile back to my face and encouragement that there are still people out there that live for passion before fashion, YEAH!!!
I hope you didn’t turn your back on it.
Because when we’re young, we don’t think the same way as we do when we’re older
The divisions were worse in the 90s due to the rise of pop-punk and pop-core in the main stream
We just didn’t notice because we were kids growing up
Try to imagine being 14 right now and listening to H2O for the first time
That’s what I do
Cheers man !rock ‘n’ roll !
God, all those show flyers bring back so many memories. H2O with Kill Your Idols, or Grey Area...one of the best shows I ever saw was back in 99 with H2O, Bouncing Souls and the Casualties. What a mash-up of people, fucking great times.
I know you might not remember me or my band but we opened for y'all back in 97 with the Misfits and Marky Ramone. I want to thank you because y'all where so kind to us kids and gave your time to just talk to us during our load out.
Seeing them this Easter Sunday with Cro-Mags in Atlanta. Spending my holy day NYHC style.
great band, great album, great song, great lyrics, great video.
1 decade for "what happened". 👏🏽
The intro commenting what people are wearing, 20 sec later: "it didnt matter how you looked or what you wore to a show"
I was 3 when this came out....now I’m 15 and still listen to it!!
Fuck I'm old dude :D. I was like 20 when this was released. just out of school. Good to see that a new generation of punk kids is growing up lol
Fuck yeah man that’s awesome. Now start a band and keep this shit going 🤘
@@darylcline7624 just started a punk band with my friends 🤘
I miss seeing H2O live. They used to play here in JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA all the time! The lyrics are very TRUE and FROM THE HEART! MUCH RESPECT! Raybees (WARZONE) would be proud!!! R.I.P.!!!
To me, in 2023 this song kicks in more relevant than ever before
almost shed a tear hearing the lyrics... too many posers invaded the scene, killed the mood and yet dont even care to show themselves to the shows.
yeah in like 1985
history is cyclical...
@@Ck-zk3we what im not sure where you live man but bi played with AAA H2o Us Bombs and HateBreed in the 90s my scene got destroyed by rich emo kids wearing there sisters pants and Straight edge Jocks an thugs coming to shows to spin kick girls a guys not even in the Pitt The Casualties . Now Anti Flag in my opinion help destroy are scene Rich kids from Pittsburgh when they play they cry about smoking after Andy Flag quit.
You just missed the message, It's not just about clothes, It's about those artists who just dress to impress and attract weak minded fans. Ramones had passion and singed from the heart it wasn't about their clothes.
Wow, that message would have NEVER CAME ACROSS MY MIND had you not said it ! Lol 😆
We still listening even in 2100 .. bloodboundwise ..my son is 13 now .. he is grazy about this song since he became 10 .. hc4ever
Still so true, and still one of the best songs ever🔥
Lol
totally right its all about the image and not about the art what happened 2 the passion
this song made me think wow
love the song
Love these guys.
They'll be coming in my home city on 5th of May. Damn it'll be great.
2018. just perfect...thats my childhood right there
Saw h20 on a boat on the east river in n.y.c with Murphy's law great show
great band, great song, great message, heard it xxxx times, but just realized how cool it is on speed 1,25 :)
hhaha you're right man !

This song is f*****g awesome! And they know what are they singing about. Gotta get that album!
Was backstage with this band way back in the day H20/Dogfight in Chicago
no words!!!! fantastic song
ooh ich liebe sie!
persistence tour war eine der geilsten shows ever!
oh i do love them!
persistence tour was one of the greatest shows i've ever seen!
michael rappaport is so cool. i didnt know he was into hardcore/punk. that explains why he was wearing a bad brains shirt on my name is earl.
this song rules. H2O rules.
gosh.. i think i 'discovered' this band for me just now (i'm working on a presentation bout punk rock and so i found them..).. i didn't knew them so far but they sound awsome and the text is just great and so true ( ok although i'm maybe a bit to young to say this- i realy mean it!)
Matt Skiba, from Alkaline Trio.
im still here guys 2023
great song with great message!
h2o-go!
This video has the greatest messege i've ever heard, i'm also in a punk band that is giving the same messege. Right on man keep it up
love this song
this song...makes me smile
Thank you, Words of Wisdom by H20.
this song has so much heart!.
15 years old this song. Still relevant.
seeing them today with dropkick murphys today in nyc. awesomee
This song is still relevant today.
Still Relevant 2019 what happened to passion?
No use For a name seriously most of this generation got sucked into a hole of superficiality and image which has no true meaning
Maybe should have had more passion when pulling out of a hardcore show in London when people have paid good money to see them
@@ianbarrett4166 London sucks. Bunch of wannabes anyway.
William Lane best punk and hardcore in England
still relevant in 2020 don't worry
h2o, alkaline, and kings of nyhc. the greatest band in my lifetime. sick of it all.
this is the best song ever, anyone who hates on it, are the ones who care about their image. it was never about that.
There writing there new album now it should be out soon! Love this band.
We need more h2o music 💪🏼💪🏼🙌🏼
yeah yeah ...
its a excelent song excelente lyrics...
say no more
Matt Skiba makes every song he’s in even better
2020? I refuse to let 'em go
MHDK _123 me!!
love music and lyrics
Awesome...
Michael is a good actor.
There are still a lot of great modern hardcore bands out there, like Code Orange, Turnstile, Touché Amoré, Self Defense Family, Loma Prieta, Incendiary, Xibalba, Defeater, Modern Life is War, Blacklisted, Drug Church.. and more melodic punk bands like Title Fight and Basement
Jus saw Code Orange live. Definitely a great HC band. You forgot Trapped under Ice
Also Defeater
+Arian hmn And most of these bands didn't exist when this song came out lol
Phil Fox So? My point still stands, punk and hardcore is not dead
Arian hmn
I know, I'm just saying, punk is in a pretty different state than it was when this song came out
So good that H2O is back!
i love this song!
h2o did it again . what a well crafted song. h2o go
good video and song.

Great appearance by Skiba.
A really nice and true song
I think they`re talking about the fashion punks that are all over the place and the dresscode that comes with them and when it comes to that I agree 100%.
