I am a retired appliance engineer (2 years ago) and I completely agree with the comments made in the video.
I bought the best made washing machine I could afford (Miele). It's our second one: Is not as well made as the first one: I've repaired it already, and I don't expect it to last more than ten years.
A seven year warranty on all Ebac washing machines is an awesome deal.
Also, I suggest that you don't set too much store by Which? reports. As a professional 'in the trade' I often disagreed with their conclusions, and I suspect that their testing methodology may be skewed for some reason - But I can't imagine why that would be!

My Hotpoint wd420 wash dryer is at least 15 years old, only thing i replaced was the dryer heater coil 7 yrs ago. But used only say twice a week. But the metal work has gone rusty top and bottom. That should be more resistant for something that gets wet.

In 1989 I bought a new Miele washing machine. 26 years later, after three children's nappies, and one grand child's, plus our general 5 person family's washing, I gave it to my middle daughter. One day out of curiosity I took the back off to see how it was made. Quite different to any other machine I had worked on, there were no concrete weights, no water filled weight tanks. Never since 1989 has it needed a new drive belt or anything. I have a saying: If you know it was expensive but you can't remember how much it was, and it is still going, then whatever it cost it was worth it. Having said all that if my current Bosch goes wrong I'll get one of these Ebacs, just because they are made in England and are repairable.

I like the fact that Ebac are one of the few manufacturers that have a hot water inlet, which others have binned in favour of cold only - I generate free hot water from solar panels so it's a big energy saver on my 20yr old Indesit which I was able to change the bearings on!

terribly inefficient if you DONT have solar panels though, which is the reason most if not all other modern(ish) machines were cold fill only, and most houses now are only plumbed for cold fill washers also.

Buying one of these this month. We absolutely need to end trade with China and start manufacturing here again. I couldn't care less about saving £100-£200 buying some cheap junk initially which'll only last a few years max. I'm all for repairability and stuff that's built to last, it seems like a long lost concept now. Thanks for giving this brand more exposure and your in depth review! Ebac obviously have confidence in their design with those warranties. Seems these are the 90s-00s Toyota of washing machines, but built here today.. grabbing one!

I seriously considered getting an Ebac when the bearings on my old (unrepairable) Bosch went. The main reason I didn't get one is because the shop I had a lot of store credit with, didn't stock Ebac. I ended up getting the only other make I could find that I believed had removeable bearings: Miele, although since then I was dismayed to discover that not all Mieles have replaceable bearings either.
I try to buy British when reasonably practical. My hifi speakers and amplifier are actually built in the UK (Scotland to be precise.)

Good review. We used to have a Hoover washing machine, made in Merthyr Tydfil before the executives ruined the company financially with their silly promotion scheme, and ending UK production. It was very good, but when it finally needed replacing, the new (foreign) Hoover machine was awful.
As regards EBAC, I have not come across their washing machines before, but a dehumidifier that I kept in my workshop ran 24/7 for many years without any trouble at all- excellent reliability.

I was sat opposite a guy on a train once who was studying a schematic. He caught me looking and told me that his job was to remove cost from TVs (he worked for Phillips). He would take a design, and strip as much out of it as he could. A few less components, a few less screws, cheaper parts like speakers and switches, to the point where it was only just in the spirit of the original design.

Part like pumps and seals, motors, and bearings should be modular and standardised. Manufacturers should be forced to make parts compatible and interchangeable. If you need a new pump you simply need to buy a standard washing machine pump what can fit as a module into any machine. Same for Cars and other such items. MTBF should be monitored from all manufactures and included as part of the environmental info for the consumer. Planned obsolescence should be penalised such that it is an unprofitable endeavour.

You are dreaming pal. You are forgetting one thing, greed.
I don’t want a car or washing machine to last for ever. Like most people I like to have a change.
If you standardise parts companies won’t make profits and will close down.
What you’re looking at is communism, think of things like the Trabant car.
No my friend, people are greedy, if the washing machine pump fails and they’ve had the machine for 5 years or so, they buy a new machine.
If machines last for say 20 years, they and the parts for them will get very expensive.
Unfortunately we are a throw away society.
This machine looks good and it’s worth consideration, but I bet it’s not all made in the UK. Electronic parts etc and various other items would come from all over the world.
“Made in Britain” really means assembled here. Yes you may be able to source panels and certain plastic mouldings etc. But a tremendous amount of British manufacturing has been lost.
This country was the most powerful in the world at one time, we invented industry and manufacturing with the industrial revolution. We exported a huge amount of products and goods all over the world.
Nowadays nobody wants to get their hands dirty and make things, they just want to be instant celebrities on TV, and to be able to just buy things and throw them away when the mood suits.
I’m an engineer and run a newly set up manufacturing facility based in England. We supply parts for engineers all over the world and we are pulling back parts that have previously been made in China and other countries and making them ourselves in-house in the UK. But this country will never again make as much product as we used to. People don’t want a big factory next door to them, they want a retail park…
Your intentions are good my friend but it’s never going to happen.
Let’s hope these machines are as good as they sound, but white goods are a huge and extremely competitive market. It’s all based on sales. There needs to be an advertising campaign like the “I’m backing Britain” one in the late 1960’s. To give people the incentive to buy British goods.
By the way I’m typing this on an American designed tablet, which is made in Asia, powered by energy from a French electricity company, sitting in a Norwegian made chair, and I’m dressed in clothes that were probably made in Bangladesh…. Shame all these things weren’t made in Britain eh?

I would be glad already, if all washing machines were build like this one.
He's even kind. The lower priced ones build in China have bearings that are molten into a plastic housing. After 3 years of family use that's naturally worn. The manufacturer's service center will quote a repair price at the same level as a new machine.
That is what the entire system is based on, waste!
The upper price-class Miele machines are built like this as well. Bearing in a steel housing, proper counterweight for the drum, the cage from metal, and a proper dampener not only some rubber thingies.
Lift such a machine from China against a well build one.

The IEC and NEMA set the standards for electric motor frame sizes everyone who uses a motor has to build there machines around this and its good. It makes service easy for people industry.
Every seal, every bearing, every pump flange, every, bolt, belt, beam and rubber tyre.
The list goes on and on....

@@montyzumazoom1337 Well it just goes to show that all the talk of helping the environment is false. Planned obsolescence is disgusting. We don't exactly have to go as far as the trabant, but white goods should be reasonably robust and repairable. Mobile phones should have replaceable batteries and not have forced updates that are designed to kill off the older models. Cars should be reasonably easy to service and maintain. I think the electric cars and hybrids will become like smart phones on wheels. It will cost more to replace batteries or the motor than the vehicle is worth. All of these minerals and chemicals used in the batteries are mined in Africa and Asia and will probably end up not being disposed of correctly. Instead we should make things last aslong as we can. I'm running a 15 year old BMW, I have a 4 year old smartphone, I have a 10+ year old bosch washing machine, a 10+ year old microwave, a 2008 plasma TV, a beko dishwasher that I've just repaired. All of this was bought used on ebay for a fraction of the cost of new and much better for the environment.

I have a Maytag Neptune dryer that is about 15 years old here in USA.
This is our high end brand , best model at the time and have the natural gas
    Unit not the electric.
The motor bearing went out I thought it was the starting capacitor because my son found it would run if you taped the door switch shut, spun the drum with clothes, and then pushed the start button!
Later it would only run if you did the door trick , letting it start at no load snd throw the clothes in while it was turning!
Yes half the clothes tried to come out again while going this snd it would not take a full load.
When I got home After bring away a month, I found the motor bearings , bushings really,
    Were seized.
The stator frame and bell end caps are welded together making it impossible to change the bearings
Like a normal single phase Ac capacitor start motor.
The replacement motor is 1/3 the price of a new machine..
If I needed a repair man it would be 50 percent with labor.

I’d definitely consider the Ebac for my next washing machine. Currently I’m using an LG washing machine. Spin cycle vibration on wooden joisted chipboard floor is terrible and I’m scared of using the 1400rpm setting. Can I suggest a spin cycle test being done on a wooden joisted floor instead of the steel frame? Wooden Joists will bounce, so any vibration will be amplified. It’ll be a good review. I’m planning to add some reinforcements to my joists under the washing machine just to see if some extra rigidity will solve the excessive spin cycle vibration.

2 years later the company goes into liquidation, hence the 10 year warranty void and anyone's guess what parts will still be available.

Not heard of these before! Our Indesit washer/dryer is on it's way out. The temperature sensor has "gone" and it rattles and is going rusty. Just a couple of things I'd like on a machine are 1) four adjustable feet rather than just the two at the front and a bit more adjustment to be had, 2) easy to remove soap tray so that you can clean it properly without breaking plastic tabs etc, then it won't stop rattling! 3) a softener compartment that actually drains properly and doesn't sit full of water until you open the drawer again. I know these work on a syphon and even though we clean ours it is just temperamental and I agree with you about the drain plug behind the bottom panel. If you remove it once the tabs are no longer secure enough to stop it rattling when refitted.

I had an ebac dehumidifier that had problems just outside the 5 year warranty period. I replaced it with a German (Trotec) machine that packed in after about the same time and made enquiries about fixing it because the cost of dehumidifiers had gone up so much. The manufacturers told me not repairable, just bin it. I then found out ebac have a repair service on their machines where they collect and deliver it back, repaired and guaranteed for £99 for machines up to 10 years old. They also pick up the phone and speak to you if you contact them. Let's hope British companies like this are making a comeback. We are now more mindful of landfill mentality and China is no longer so cheap to manufacture disposable goods. I've just bought a British (Haden) microwave, one of the only ones I could find with a non rusting stainless steel cavity, the death of most microwaves with years of use left in them. The old one cost about £15 less, made in China and lasted 4.5 years, cavity is rusted thru already. False economy and sheer waste. Funny how things often turn full circle!

I had a Miele w5748 stainless steel model started becoming very loud and shaking a lot even though it was level.
Domestic and general sent Miele out and they wrote it off as the spider was on its way out… bearings were good and shocks and everything else to be honest. It was all reparable but he said they just scrap them as it’s a 2 man job to fix the drum. I was gutted 10 years old supposed to last up to 20 years old. Sold it for parts now stuck with a hotpoint Aquarius washer dryer. It’s ok I suppose was only 2nd hand and really cheep.

I wonder whether the model W5748 was one of the cheaper models? It seems that the least expensive models have a fibre glass outer drum (GlaronK) and do not have cast iron drum balance weights. They may have a wetted spider made of lower quality metal than the top quality machines (that I imagine have, for example, a grade 316 stainless steel or similar material spider).

I go to ebac’s factory in Newton Aycliffe to load shipping containers full of these.
The amount of returns they get are unbelievable.
Most of the staff reckon they are crap.

Interesting, I'm keen to get a UK-made washer but can't be doing with poor quality. Staff saying they're crap is very worrying. There must be about 2 million washing machines being bought per year in the UK, so maybe Ebac sells alot and the returns you see are a small percentage?

Brilliant video again mate , will keep an eye out for ebac but worry about spares for the future . How are fill levels and settings for water plus as the latest whirlpools are using less and less water which means cleaning is not as good.

I've got an Indecit Moon, around 12 years old. Will get one of these soon as my Indecit cannot last much longer.

Fantastic video. Thank you for the video. I've been trying to find a repairable washing machine that fits under the counter (not intergrated), and thi fits the bill. Thank you.

Don't worry about induction motors. My experience they are more reliable and nowhere as noisy. I have had a Zunussi FL811 for over 40 years ( still in regular use)and all I have replaced is the run-motor capacitor and a set of drum bearings .

The only thing that normally fails with an induction motor is usually the circuit board wasn't built to correct standards allowing for voltage variations and sometimes components blow within the circuit board because of this

i Hope the Ebac machine has a power factor correction circuit to countermand the motor inductance .

I used broken washing machine years. Its drum and emptying pump works. Next I bought portable, which have only timer switch. I am happy.🥴 My profession is in automation.

Looking at an Ebac after my Beko is playing up again!, what are these machines like at energy consumption? Like the idea of not having to worry about my washing machine for the next 7 years. Also a local independent electrical shop sells them, so I could shop local too, win win if they are energy efficient
