Eclectic in her appearance and sound. She was a huge club favorite. Friends with Bowie and Andy Warhol, she was always cutting edge. "Pull Up to the Bumper" is one of my favorites. Give it a listen 🎶

Grace Jones was just way outside the box. Her look, her voice, the unique way she presented herself, made her a mega personality that just about everyone knew during the height of her fame. I saw her in films, enjoyed her modeling pics, and owned one of her albums.

@@Pulsar77Maybe so, but for what it's worth, "Pull" was a much better song. Definitely more catchy and more danceable. Nipple to the Bottle was also pretty big and IMO a better song as well. Slave has a cool video but I didn't think it was very catchy or very danceable.

When she performs Slave to the Rhythm live, even at her age, she sings the entire song while hula hooping like 10 hula hoops through the whole song.

Love Pull Up to the Bumper.
But perhaps my favorite is her cover of The Normal’s Warm Leatherette. Saw her several times early on and midway through her career but not during her more recent years performing. She was a very close friend of a good friend of mine (a fashion Illustrator who died age 44 in ‘87 of AIDS😢).
Grace Jones is 74 and still performing: seductive as ever!

The song that always pops into my head when I think of Grace Jones is "Pull Up to the Bumper" from 1981. She was always dressed in the most sculptural, dramatic clothes. In the eighties, it was often Issey Miyake and Azzedine Alaïa. She was one of the few people who could carry off Issey Miyake's most avant-garde outfits. And she was also known in the eighties for appearing with equally chiseled bodybuilder boyfriends, most famously actor Dolph Lundgren.

Incomparable. Un-coverable. Highly conceptual. Her oldest material is a bit odd because they didn’t know what to do with her voice. Her catalog is full of so many fun things to play. Start with her most recent and go backwards. Next videos could be Corporate Cannibal, Love You To Life, I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect For You.) It is impossible to capture what a revelation Grace Jones is. She revolutionized music in the 80's & 90's. She was Jamaican born and international in culture. This period of her albums Nightclubbing, Warm Leatherette, and Slave to the Rhythm were an especially creative period when she redefined cool, chic and modern, delivering the flat top fade hairstyle later widely mimiced by early hip hop stars. SHE had striking looks and out of this world fashion from the top couture designers.
She sings a modernized version of a hit by Motown's Marvelettes -- The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game -- which loses cool and suave. Listen to the club version of Feel Up, a remix by DJ superstar Larry Levan. Or maybe her song about making love during a car crash, Warm Leatherette. Her dusky alto, delivered in dulcst monotones was reminiscent of European stars like Marlene Dietrich.
She began her singing career in chiffon and tulle wearing an old 45 record on her head as a hat singing a disco tune so awful it became fabulous by going through the back door: I Need a Man; and a risque version of a French song 'La Vie en Rose'. Try these out
Nipple to the Bottle, Slave to the Rhythm, My Jamaican Guy, and the fabulous Pull Up to the Bumper (Larry Levan Mix). Nightclubbing and Hunter Gets Captured by the Game.
She still performs. You can catch her at Queen Elizabeth's 90th performing while using a hula hoop the entire time.
GRACE JONES IS WHAT FABULOUS IS MADE OF!!!!!

Grace Jones! I would call it melancholy. Dark, sad, happy mixture. lol. She was very cool. New wave, punk rock, alternative, reggae influenced, international music.. Some disco. etc. Very versatile. Her songs and videos wre fun to check out when I was a kid, '80. Some of her good friends includes David Bowie, Iggy Pop, etc. So that explains it lol.
She's Jamaican, very pretty lady too. Tall and thin. She's also a model and actress, Creative, strong voice, stylish. Avant garde, artsy pop, similar to Kate Bush.
Very long career from the late '70s, '80s, '90s and '00s. "Slave To the Rhythm", "Demolition Man", "My Jamaican Guy", "Do or Die", "Amado Mio", ect next ones for yall to check out!

"Super Models" have been around since the early 1940s, and the word 'supermodel' has been around since the days of Capucine, Twiggy, Veruschka, etc. in the early '60s - so Grace came along to international modelling in the '70s and contributed to the Diva persona transitioning to singing and acting.

I first heard this song in a movie called Frantic starring Harrison Ford, which takes place in Paris. I had heard other Grace Jones songs before, but this was so well placed in the movie... there is no one like her. She is fluent in France... she lived there for years as a model. I was fortunate to meet her years ago... my husband and I were on cruise, and we had stopped in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and wandered onto a private beach during the few hours we had... the locals welcomed us, and then this woman came onto the beach with a few others... she was older, but stunning... she lived just behind in one of the homes.... one of the locals introduced us. We talked briefly... I did not want to disturb her or her friends, but she was quite gracious.

I'm not perfect , A piece inspired by a meeting with Mick Jagger one day when they found themselves by chance in the same studio she had the idea when Mick Jagger and her were flirting together , Mick and Grace started to talk about a subject in particular that of couples formed by two celebrities. then discussed this obligation to be as perfect as a partner as an artist. only one sentence will emerge from this working session: “I’m not perfect, but I’m perfect for you”.
The video is awesome made by her ex husband the photographer Jean Paul Goude, guest appearance in this video, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Niles rogers.

Grace Jones is amazing and many of the comments talked about some of her best recordings and her status as an icon. Grace Jones played a warrior Queen in the movie Conan the Barbarian. In an interview, the star, Arnold Schwarzenegger said that Grace was really fighting and the director had to tell her to take it easy on the stuntmen. I was walking down 57th Street in Manhattan years ago and saw a traffic jam, caused simply by Grace Jones walking down the street. I recommend one of her later songs, Corporate Cannibal. you call imagination believing that a black jamaican woman is french because she recites a couple of lines in french in an argentinian song, which by the way, she sings in english all the time.
And why not thinking she's from Argentina? But I suppose that'd be unimaginative, because there's no imagination in thinking that about a tango.
It'll be much more imaginative if we say this song and artist evokes a tyrolean woman from the SS in WWII singing polka and being a white, blonde, anglosaxon protestant teenager that hates jews.
      What about that?!
      🤡🤡🤡💩💩💩

Grace Has a much bigger following in Europe where she lives and she still goes on tours. She still has striking beauty even into her 70's. I saw he in person up close on two occasions back in the late 80's and early 90's. She has never had any cosmetic surgery done, but people who do, try but fail to achieve her looks.

Love Grace Jones! This song conjures up a parisienne vibe in Paris, -- smoky cafes, especially with the accordion (and you know I love me songs with accordions since I'm an accordionist myself!).

She's as avant garde as the fashion world she came from. Everything is a visual treat. Not only was she a producer, but a Bond girl too! Try Slave To the Rhythm or Pull Up to the Bumper.

Try Pull Up to the Bumper (her biggest hit), Slave to the Rhythm, My Jamaican Guy, La Vie en Rose, Private Life, Breakdown, Love is a Drug, Warm Leatherette obviously I'm a fan!

This song is based off a famous piece called "Libertango" by Astor Piazzolla. Before the pandemic, I was in a string quartet and went through a tango phase. I rearranged this piece for our group to perform and it was so much fun to watch everyone start dancing to it!

I think my favorite memory of her is driving through the German wine country, with Grace on Radio Luxembourg, singing "La Vie en Rose." It was a great station!! Louis Prima, followed by Scorpions, is an example of their range.

She was relatively well known in the early to mid eighties and then faded from public consciousness. I was only vaguely aware of her music as a kid. This was an interesting introduction to it. I knew her best from movie and tv show appearances. Thank you for a reaction to this, as I probably would have remained unaware otherwise.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound...
Love her music, she's not released many albums in her 45 year career but she's released some amazing tunes. Love her androgynous look and her confidence.
She releases an amazing album around 2008, Hurricane, and toured on the back of it. I saw the concert, it was amazing. She's in her 70s now and she's still a force of nature.
Some of my favourite songs from Grace include I'm not perfect (but I'm perfect for you), my Jamaican guy, Slave to the rhythm and Pull up to the bumper. All worth checking out.....

A sleek goddess who honestly has never given even the most remote shit!
I still adore her crazy self!
She's still performing too - topless half the time. Seriously. 😈💜😈

I-CONIC. 70 years old at the time and hoola hooping her way though Slave To The Rhythm ❤️ Check out the cover art for her album Island Life. Oh my god, gorge

I loved Grace Jones. Saw her live in Florida back in the late 80's and it was fantastic (and wild!). I've still got her CD's from back then. You will probably get suggestions for "Pull up to the bumper", "I'm not perfect (but I'm perfect for you)". I also like a couple of other cuts from that last album "Victor should have been a Jazz Musician", "Chan hitchhikes to Shanghai" and "Barefoot in Beverly Hills". Her music is definitely creative. Sometimes it's like she just is thinking about something from her week and puts it to music.

I've always liked to describe Grace Jones as a force of nature. There is not one quite like her! She has an amazing voice, she is STUNNING to look at, she is a model, actress, singer, songwriter, fashion icon. I hope you'll continue to check out more of her music. Love Is The Drug, Warm Leatherette, Slave To The Rhythm, Victor Is A Jazz Musician, Walking In The Rain, Nightclubbing, I'm Not Perfect (but I'm perfect for you), Cooperate Cannibal, Williams' Blood, This Is, and so many more. She is a Bond girl, she was in the James Bond movie: A View To A Kill. She was also in Canan The Barbarian. One of my favorite movies she did was Boomerang with Eddie Murphy. She also did a very interesting movie called Vamp where she's a vampire.
