Every year, when the government puts a ban on Firecrackers on Diwali till New Year, people start a debate on the pros and cons of crackers. Hence, in this video, Dhruv Rathee explains everything you need to know about firecrackers, starting from their history, their origin, are they Indian? are they based out of Mughal Era? and their ban, to the most controversial question - do they really cause pollution?

For those who say there is a tradition to burst firecrackers on Diwali, Christmas, New Year, Weddings, Celebrations etc. My response is, why don't you start a new habit instead?
Start planting trees with your children on the occasions of Diwali, Christmas and New Year, I am sure children will start enjoying that too. Start giving alms to the poor and needy at weddings and celebrations with the same amount that you spend on firecrackers.
To date, I have never burst a firecracker on any occasion and I am against it for noise and air pollution. Also many times, children burn themselves while playing with firecrackers.

I live in a small village of around 600 ppl max. But when I was in 9th me and younger sibling decided to not burn crackers for Diwali as it causes pollution and surprisingly just in two years all of the villagers stopped burning them. We did it because we could see the smoke that used to come from them. I am so proud of that decision and all thanks to my school and teachers who taught me about these small steps.
Can you please tell me what the total amount of air pollution is done by firecrackers just on burning one or two days (I really want to stop that ) . Can you please tell me the overall rate of pollution rate due to direct emission of firecrackers.

@@Pokechris26evans73 idk the rates but what I know is whenever we used to burn the crackers the elder PPL used to go back in houses, the coughing and all the smog next morning was not the scene that anyone liked. Besides few decades ago there wasn't anyone celebrating Diwali with crackers. My Grandparents even today tell us the stories of lightning all the lamps, all the jagrans and bhajans, organizing Ram Dhun where all the villagers used to gather and sing and do Garbas. This is way better than just burning crackers ig.

I really loved that suggestion in the end. One more point to add is that we must stop thinking that only banning crackers will help Delhi with Air pollution. All the aguments for burning fire crackers on diwali have some merit. Instead of politicizing banning crackers as weapon (cough... AAP cough...), we must look forward to implement all other ways.

I stopped burning fire crackers the moment I knew were harmful, I was very young might be around 5-7 years old back then, haven't burnt crackers till today and won't in the distant future for the future generations about to come. Is also one of the toughest resolution I made.😊

I agree with you. Government of india should arrange public fireshows on occasions of new year, diwali, republic day and independance. And instead of using fireworks in sports matches they should create something awsome with drones. And parents should also motivate kids against firecrackers.

As firecrackers are part of every festival in every religion..yes its true that it is not good for our environment but we should also focus on pollution making by other countries in war ... every one starts commenting about pollution when Diwali festival comes ... I don't know where their care for environment goes when other religion festival comes and they pollute the environment....in earth every cycle of animals plants and all organisms are important but in others religion they use animal for their own stomach fullfilment....we should also take a stand for animals

Me and my brother has never burst crackers since childhood and we still enjoy Diwali a lot. I guess this is because our parents has developed our interest in other interesting things such as making rangoli, making sweets, visit our elders, we always go on a long drive on diwali and distribute sweets along the way. 😊
