[115] Abstract Alcohol Ink Painting Tutorial

- This wispy alcohol ink painting is done on 8” round NARA synthetic art paper. I used Tim Holtz / Ranger alcohol ink colors Cloudy Blue, Pink Sherbet, and Cool Peri, along with Jacquard Piñata brass for the metallic gold color. I also used 99% isopropyl alcohol and my 500 watt Revlon hairdryer on the cool setting.
After a painting has dried thoroughly for a couple days, I always seal them with a few coats of Krylon Kamar spray varnish then a few coats of Kamar UV Archival spray varnish, waiting between each coat for it to dry. Once all this has cured for a week or so, the painting can be framed as is or applied to a wood panel then resined if desired.

Lorrie, I have heard Tim Holtz say that different humidity levels, along with temperature and air flow in the area in which we work, can really affect how the inks move. So it stands to reason that everyone will have different results. I can’t get the same results you do even though I’m trying to do the same thing you do. Inks move in their own way. Some of the pieces I love most are the very first ones I did. I’ve not been able to recreate them no matter how much I try! Photo paper truly are the best!
Absolutely, on what Tim Holtz said (not that he needs my opinion lol). I have found that I will almost never like a "recreation" that I do, as much as I like the original. I have pretty much quit even trying because it just frustrates me lol.

Beautiful, and I love the pastels! I am intending to buy some Nara round paper as I think it adds something special to the piece. How do you display your round pieces? Do you mount them on wood, or frame them?
Absolutely beautiful! Just found your channel. I really appreciate your really detailed Amazon pages, I ordered off them. At least in my case the Tim Holtz Alloys don’t do veining like the Pinata does for you but then again I’m new to alcohol inks and I could be doing it wrong or it’s a bad batch who know. Do you use the piñata brass right from the bottle, or do you add alcohol before putting in small containers?

I just love watching your 'free flow' style!! I am practicing and making cards out of the piece that looks good as every try still has a good bit. Have got a LOT of cards at this point 🤣🤣
