Antarctica is the ultimate landscape photography destination. In this video, I head down to the Antarctica peninsula with photographers Nigel Danson, Alyn Wallace and James Popsys for a two-week trip. We were joined by 35 workshop participants on the Aurora Expeditions ship the Greg Mortimer. In this video, we head into the Lemaire Channel, Petermann Island and Port Lockroy.

it kind of is already documented. these are just some more of what we have already available. I'm not knocking anyone for their decisions in fact its great that were talking about this stuff and I wrestle with the impact of everything I do too. lets not forget the impact of our storage that's sits on energy hungry servers storing everybody's stuff in the badly named "cloud" seems to be the biggest worry. whether we take trips like this or not we are all contributing data to this poorly thought out storage solution.
Of all the people who would travel to sensitive ecosystems, I think you’d be among one of the most respectful. You have done such great work showing us Fairy Creek, you’re the man for this job! Thank you for showing us the beauty most of us will never get the chance to see.
Absolutely awesome video, regarding some people being critical of you for making the trip due to your carbon footprint and the environment etc. On the flip side, thanks to photographers, videographers and vloggers like yourself we get to see the delicate balance of nature and how we should do more to protect it.
There’s a lot worse environmentally, that’s causing rising sea temperatures, climate change etc.
I see a video like this as educational (as well as the awesome photography) so well done for highlighting and responding to criticism in such an informative and sensible way Adam 👏

As far as I’m concerned there’s no one better to show the beauty of any location in this world. Your iceberg shots are so ethereal, as were the wider shots of the bay. Everyone should see these. The more that great photographers like yourself not only document the ecosystems, but do it in an artful way, the more people can see why we need to protect what we have left. You’re the new David Attenborough 👏😉

I disagree with the. Statement that “Everything we do has a negative impact…..” I think your work has a significant and lasting positive impact on your followers, and anyone that has the opportunity to see and enjoy one of your photographs. Well, and respectfully done Adam!

how can you disagree with the assertion that humans by nature have a negative impact on earth, both in terms of individual and collective terms. We as individuals can off set that impact ------ but come on humans are not great for earth.
Some wonderful images, Adam. Love the bit where you and Alan get photo bombed by a penguin. I think you raised some very valid thoughts about our disconnection from nature and one could question the carbon footprint of Sir David Attenborough, but his contribution to conserving nature through his work is immense. I like the way your video and photos use the human element to tell a story, as you said, of a darker history, but also of the beauty of nature.👍👍👍
Everyone has an opinion, but photographers have the environment in mind with everything they do when they are out in it. Deb Lashbrook on here said it well. Not a lot of people are able to make a trip to Antarctica, so I appreciate you showing us your wonderful photos. Again, thanks Adam.

Ethical travel: The answer is not to eliminate travel because of its impact, rather it is to make travel better. Too often that naysayer crowd will try to reframe their inability to travel as a heroic "choice" not to do so. It's easy to condemn something like travel if you have no interest in it or don't have the means to participate. I personally cannot afford to go to Antarctica right now (or ever), but I won't lie about it and pretend that I don't go because of superior morals.
Went there myself in 2016 and it was the trip of a lifetime! Very different as we were on a smallish vessel with just under 100 passangers and sailed from Ushuaia - but the impressions and route in Antarctica was much the same. I also went kanoing - like moving in a cocktailglass because of the noise of the ice. I love to be taken back and your photos do some justice to this magnificent landscape. We had a much more casual approach and much less "luxury" on the boat but I preferred it that way - everyone to his taste. Woderful experience and wonderful images...
So true about the massive disconnect with nature! I would die to be able to visit Antarctica but unfortunately will never be able to afford it. So I live vicariously through videos & photos. Beautiful work.

I have noticed a certain characteristic in many of the people I've run into that have shown themselves to be ignorant and closed minded. They spend very little time, if any, traveling away from their immediate neighborhoods and have denied themselves the beauty of the world, AND ITS CULTURAL DIVERSITIES. The more I travel, the more I appreciate the world and the many different cultures in it. Beautiful images, Adam.

Interesting take on the carbon footprint ethics of this trip. My experience on this trip really had a profound effect on my concerns for the environment that really has reinvigorated my desire to be even more responsible about my carbon footprint. The huge blubber storage tanks at deception island were such a wake up call. The pristine nature of the environment is so special.
Adam had to go all the way to Antarctica to get away from Gavin 🤣🤣🤣

Once again a beautiful video. You really capture the essence of the place. I love the transitions from raw to final images. It inspires and encourages me in my own photography.
I watched James video and I watched Nigel's as well. Both of them took some fantastic photos. Nigel's two meter pano was especially impressive. However, once again you've shown why you're my favorite. The iceberg photos just have an atmosphere about them that goes beyond simple landscape photography. Even on TH-cam they have a look and feel that exudes the cold, desolate beauty of Antarctica.
Great photos Adam, my uncle spent 2.5 years down in Antarctica back in 1946/47 with the British Antarctic Survey. He was the doctor in the team and has a glacier that he surveyed named after him. Apparently it still exists but is melting fast. Enjoy.

Loved the photos especially the one with the hut and the 2 penguins in the foreground. I wanted to let you know that I went to Arizona for a week (first trip since the pandemic) and had time to kill each night while I sat alone in the airbnbs - I binge watched (again) many of yours and Gavins episodes to kill time in an enjoyable way. It reminded me of your F4 road trip series (bought the entire package) that I loved so much. Just want to say thanks for making my trip that much more enjoyable.
It’s so much easier to be judgmental of others (who we can’t control) than to look at ourselves with a view to getting comfortable with who we are and our responsibilities to those around us and our world.
Thanks for going and sharing for free. I hope the negative feelings that some people had towards your trip did not bother you too much. I probably would have deleted them and not responded. But your reply was well thought out and spoken. I encourage you to keep up your brand of environmentalism. It is much more palatable and effective than some of the radicals out there selling their brand of negativity.
Absolutely fantastic vlog and images with a message. Fully agree with your views about people’s disconnect with nature. I also notice that landscape and wildlife photogtaphers are probably the most respectful among nature enthusiasts that I’ve seen where they try to capture and leave the same place the way they found it.

I love the pre and post processing of the photos. The dark skies in the background are lovely. Thanks for taking all of us there and sharing the beauty. The world needs to be aware of the wonderful wildlife and stark landscapes of the Antarctic. I believe that the only hope for preserving the world right now hinges on building appreciation of various environments. Good work Adam.....

I, for one, am glad you had the opportunity to go and bring us these wonderful stories and images from Antarctica. Remember, too, Adam, that it is often the case that those who complain the loudest about what others do don't do anything but complain.
This is one of those videos where I have to break up my comments by section:
0:45 - I know it's Antarctic summer, but the guy in shorts and a tee shirt is just showing off.
3:15 - Gentoo penguin: "These photographers keep getting in the way of my trek back to the roost. I don't think they understand penguins' needs. We need to do something about that."
6:30 - the lowland snow on Petermann Island is very pink. I presume that's from penguin guano? In which case, ... PHEW
9:30 - I agree with your point that, as an environmental advocate and photographer, you do a great service by documenting the beauty and preciousness of a threatened land for the world to see in awe and wonder.
Summary: awesome images from what must have been a wonderful trip. I admit, I hate the cold; but it looks like that time of year, the temperature is a little above freezing so maybe I should consider a workshop before I get too old. Will you do this again next year?

Totally agree with you on the carbon footprint dilemma. I am grateful for the people who get out to these places and create awareness of what is at stake here. Most people sadly live in bubbles of safety. Actually to fix this problem everyone needs to get out of their bubbles and start doing something proactive instead of picking on the very people who show us how beautiful this place called earth is. Beautiful majestic photos Adam. Every photographer that drives anywhere to take a photo burns fossil fuels, every photographer that uses a computer to edit those photos has carbon footprint from the production of the computer components let alone the production of the photography gear. Those people using technology to send you negative feedback proclaiming your carbon footprint as negative for taking that trip, themselves have a carbon footprint from technology and likely having a car, or motorcycle and flying for vacations, etc. Don't worry about the sanctimonious hypocrites Adam, you are opening up the world to majestic places and beautiful, memorable moments in space time, just like your fellow workshop hosts.

Well said regarding connection to nature Adam. The disconnect is tremendous here in Australia where we have some of the world's most special forests but very few travelling even to their outskirts such as the takayna Tarkine. Those that do soon have a changed appreciation of the value of natural places.

Yes, I totally agree with your thoughts about preserving nature and wilderness, as professional photographers we must document the actual situation, fur any further reference, as an historical archive, as a real image of nature is. Excellent. And your restraint in processing your RAW files is, as always, noted and appreciated.
There's a famous french photographer, Yann Arthus Bertrand, who you might know for his body of work "La Terre Vue du Ciel" (Earth from Above). He specialises in capturing aerial shots of our planet and for as long as he has been a climate activist, he has been criticised for the trips he goes on and helicopters he uses (he's since switched to drones) to capture his images. The point is, while everything we do does indeed have an impact on the planet, there is such a thing as a net impact. And the impact of his work, conveying nature's beauty and fragility, far outweighs the emissions they inevitably produce. Not to mention they're still just a drop in the ocean when compared to the corporations that produce the majority of the world's pollution and have known and sown doubt about climate change for decades.
