    "Oddball" was a movie from around 2015 about the first dog that looked after penguins on Middle Island at Stingray Bay. I've been to that bay 3 times now, and each time it was blowing wildly. I must have visited at the wrong time of the year each time.

      That's interesting they made a movie about the dogs.
      That was probably my least windy trip down that way. Yep, usually blowing a gale!

      Hi Jason.Great to look around Warrnambool and Tower Hill,last time we were there we come across two snakes on the trail around the lake.Maybe the cooler weather kept them out of sight.

    Beauty Jason. I'm getting itchy feet (and wheels) watching your videos. I've got to sort out a few personal issues, then I'm heading off. Short trips at first -(to test the waters), then longer journeys, as I have a rather small 4 x 4. Thanks as always for the inspiration. Cheers, Sean.

    PS: On the first visit over 3 days, we were lucky enough to see whales and their calves breaching, spouting, tail and flipper slapping and moving very close to surfers and to shore. Wonderful and unforgettable!

    HI Jason, I see others have mentioned the Movie 'Oddball' starring Shane Jacobson, Oddball was the first dog to protect the penguin colony.
    I should have mentioned before but I like how you put up the map references, having not been to these towns/areas it is great way to follow your journey and also to make mental notes for when I eventually travel the area,

    Warrnambool is where Oddball was filmed. Dogs protecting the penguins. A very funny movie starring Shane Jacobson. Great to see the town in real life. Koiroit: The first confirmed European sighting of the area was of Tower Hill, the nearby inactive volcano, in 1802, by French explorers aboard Le Géographe, captained by Nicolas Baudin. The first European settler came to the Koroit area in 1837. During the 1840s and 1850s, a large number of Irish immigrants made Koroit their home. A strong and obvious links between Koroit and Ireland is the potato crops grown in the rich volcanic soil surrounding the town. So you were right. Look forward to your peaceful informative videos. Bucket list getting ever longer. Hmmmm 11:56

    Life complications have prevented me from watching your videos since you were around the Lake Macquarie area, Jason. I'm going to have a crack at watching the backlog... I'll see how I go. I'm glad to see you (and the van) are still healthy and on the road. Question: why do I not see Super Thanks on your channel?

      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Denis, I've missed you!😁
      Hope you've gotten things straightened out on your side....or at least less bent.
      Been a while since I've been up Lake Mac and quite a bit gone on. Many hours of video so no pressure to catch up 😂
      I switched off the super thanks as my financial situation is a lot more under control now, compared to the beginning of the year when things were quite tight. To me, I felt as though I may be misleading people and decided to turn off the super thanks. Feedback from many contributors was that I should leave it on, so may turn it back on in the future.

    A great video again, Jason. For me your coverage makes it almost as good as actually being there. So many places I never knew of even in my home state of NSW. Thank you.
    I was thinking afterwards that pretty much wherever you go there sometimes or often seems to be a dearth of suitable locations for full time or part time van lifers for even overnight let alone longer stays. That then triggered a couple of questions I thought I would put to you, if you don't mind. :)
    1. Which council areas you have visited seem to cater more to the market?
    2. Do you think van life, either full time or part time, is on the increase?
    3. Do you think councils generally should have more van life friendly policies and facilities?
    4. Generally speaking, do you think more focus by councils on van life friendly policies would boost tourism to any significant extent?
    Thanks again for your videos, Jason.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks Peter.
      Need to answer in multiple responses as I can't read you message while I have the reply window open 😂
      1. South coast NSW towns have free campgrounds close to the towns, dedicated water fill stations for RV's (free) though I think they're a little short in dump points. Many inland towns offer similar amenities for travellers too. It seems to be less if a council area wide thing though and more of a town by town basis. In many cases, the dump points are in a Lions or Rotary Park. Others are in council showgrounds.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      2. I get the impression that vanlife is on the increase, though I wouldn't say at an ever increasing rate. In my opinion, there was a bit of a rush on it post covid, but it's starting to settle down to a slower rate of increase now. I've only been on the road full-time for the last 18mths and not noticed a significant change in that timeframe.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      3. It would be nice to see water fill points and dump points more widely available....even if for a fee. I would happily pay a few dollars for 100L of water if it meant I had certainty on getting it.
      Having places where overnight stays are permitted would be great too, but managing these I can see being a problem. Almost everywhere I have seen dedicated free camps, there are people that move in permanently...ruining it for everyone as the councils then put 1 to 3 day limits on the sites. It's a hard problem to solve without causing other knock on issues...

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      4. I'm not sold on the increased tourism dollars argument being a plus for towns. A lot of people doing longer term vanlife live in a tight budget and are not big spenders when it comes to restaurants, etc. But they will become shoppers at supermarkets and also need to buy fuel...
      I'm gradually becoming anti-capitalism in my old age, so in reality, building a business case for amenities shouldn't be something that needs to be done.
      In our current society, I can see providing amenities to travellers is going to be a hard sell.
