I remember growing up and having a massive dislike to Jamie. Now I’m getting older, I can’t help but appreciate what he’s done in his career, truly remarkable.

But have to agree with you there. I felt the same. I was also a little hurt by Craig going to Ford. But after that win in 06 everything seemed to make sense again. And Craig even eventually went back to Holden. It's a funny old game , race cars!!!🤣✌🏻🇭🇲
I like the way he was speaking at the end very much at peace with his retirement. I loved that phrase "Pressure is a privilege" a lot of top sports people need to know that.
I buzzed out when he mentioned Novak because I always saw him as the Novak of Supercars. He could actually pass as Novak's Aussie brother tbh.
I was 5 years old in 2006 when I first heard Whincup’s name (I liked him solely for his name). I remember watching on this old grey box tv when Lowndes crossed the finish line in 06. That 3 peat is something I will remember for the rest of my life. Congratulations on an amazing career and I wish you well.

Huge fan from the UK here. JDub has had one hell of a career, to win that series 7 times is incredibly hard. Sad to see him go, the end of an incredible era.

I've had a love/hate thing for Jamie. A great driver, one of the best and I hated it when he won races over my favourites.

First started watching Australian cars back in the days of Dick Johnson and John Bowe in the Sierra RS500s. Wasn’t keen on the V8s to begin with but as we had coverage here in the UK I soon got into it. Watching Jamie win his multiple championships was an honour. Seems like a genuinely nice bloke as well. We don’t get coverage here now so haven’t watched for several years which is a shame.
I've loved every minute of it. Love him or hate him he has given us so much. Entertainment value is off the charts. Good on ya jdub
Even though Im young and havnt seen him race as much it's still sad to see a legend like him not racing anymore but congrats to him he had a great run and did so much for the v8s👍

Jamie Whincup was what ford needed at the time to get the wins back. When they had to change to Holden due to ford only financing factory teams, Jamie became the enemy that had to be beaten lol.
I’ve been a fan since I was 4 so for ten years now and now I’m just abscessed with red bull team because of Whincup

Would have love to have seen Jamie and Scott McLaughlin in Volvos together for a few years with GRM just to upset the applecart a bit more, still love the last laps of that race in Adelaide on Volvo debut with J Dub vs Scott, top shelf racing
Jamie couldn't do what Scottie did in the Volvo, hell, he couldn't beat Scottie in a Volvo driving a triple 8 Holden.

BTW, no one works harder than SVG, he races in everything he can, drifts and even wins rounds with a broken collar bone pumped full of pain meds
@@darianistead2239 correct, he even says at 4:30 that they had a performance advantage in those dominant years because of all th3 custom parts they made.. that was evident right up until penske turned up and was able to match them for spending time and money on those sorts of things

So no Whincup next year Roland Dane retiring David Couchi leaving along with Lowndes most likely big shake up at 888 racing for 2022 and just as I suspected from 2008 onwards the team was more centred around whincup but huge credit to Jamie for saying that, it's very rare that a driver says the team favoured him over his teammate

One of our greats, but Jamie like every other successful driver will say, being good at it is not all you need, being in the right place at the right time to get the offers from the right team with the right car at the right time is what puts it together!

Jamie was my fav driver and same with svg but redbull is going to fall down a bit without him
Joined the right team at the right time. 2014 Bathurst 1000 lap 161 was my career highlight.
I remember seeing Jamie when I was 12. Wasnt fond of him, I guess because I was Holden at the time and Skaife/Kelly/Tander were my team and this rookie was beginning to upset the league.
His career has been nothing short of amazing. Shame hes leaving so young but his mentality and his tenacity have been amazing. I hope he pulls one last win up at the mountain.
The title is misleading. He didn't die, he merely retired from racing. Still sad, but he could technically return.

Remember being out at Sandown in 2007 when Whincup qualified the car and Lowndes didn't and accepted right there that he had started to overshadow Lowndes.
Sadly a runner up this year but nevertheless a good end to a great career, I expect to see you on the mountain again backing up these awesome new generation of Drivers !

I remember when he squandered a Bathurst victory because he refused to respond to team orders.
was that regarding the time he ran out of fuel? Apparently it was later worked out that if he went to pits to refuel earlier, he would have ended up much farther back than 5th. So it was a gamble that paid off well.
@@nathanielpillar8012 Nope ,he simply needed to lift a little or short change . He kept pushing and subsequently ran out of fuel.
All he hade to do was roll out of the throttle thru the last 6 laps to save enough to get the end and would have won ... Asked multiple times to do just that over the coms but oh no ... Another race thrown away thru arrogance
