Niklas Zennström founded Skype in 2003 when the world was still figuring out how the internet worked. More notably, the European tech ecosystem was still very much nascent. Since then we’ve come a long way. From the foundations laid in the 2000s, the 2010s were a decade of tremendous scaling and maturing with both builders and consumers in Europe.
By 2021 Europe's start-up pipeline matched the US - Europe reached over $100bn in startup funding in 2021. While these are fantastic figures, Niklas believes the continent is uniquely positioned to continue growing in relevance. More importantly, we have the chance to focus on problems that matter.
