[Dubai] Fire Trucks Responding From Al Etihad Civil Defence Station

  • Captured here is a rare video of the Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) responding from Al Etihad Fire Station (Union Station in English) for a structure fire. Seen responding were a command/ light-rescue car, an engine and a tanker, the regular fire assignment in Dubai. The fire call came in at around 10:20pm on a Thursday night and firefighters quickly raced towards downtown Dubai. All units returned about one hour later, and I was able to get a quick tour of the station.

    Impressive catch, really living up to the "Global" in your name! Also a GMC Suburban, and two Mercedes-Benz Rosie trucks... who would've thought Dubai would be the place to see this combination?

    Seems like they renamed the station because when I was there it was called the Al Satwa Fire Station. You can be lucky to catch them on video because I had to wait 3 days for the same trucks to respond. A lot of people also told me that it was forbidden to take pictures of government vehicles, nevertheless I did not have any problems during my journeys and they also allowed me to get inside the station. I also noticed in your video that they don't have the aerial platform anymore. They probably moved it to another station.

      Thank you for the comment! :)
      Yes you’re right, I actually noticed the name change by watching your videos from Dubai. I assume they changed it to ‘Union Station’ in preparation for the 2020 Expo (also written on the command car). Indeed I was much more lucky than I ever could have imagined. I had honestly gone to this spot to catch some ambulances and police cars, but never expected the fire station to get a call. So when the bell rang (only about 20 mins after I got there!) I was so confused and surprised that I started recording a little late... 😆
      The biggest irony was that I didn’t even catch any police or ambulance responses there, only the rare fire trucks! I noticed that they had some additional trucks parked behind the station, so maybe the platform was there?
      I had also heard things about the laws in the UAE against recording emergency services. Due to this I actually wrote an email to the Civil Defence before my trip, asking for a statin visit, but no luck via the official route. As far as I know it is illegal to record government installations, including civil defence stations, but the vehicles are usually fine. After all Dubai would not always be buying fancy super cars for their emergency services if they didn’t want them seen around the world. I also found that the firefighters were very welcoming and did not mind my recording or station visit at all. Overall it was a good experience, only the weather was much too hot and humid in the summer (filmed this clip at 53 degrees with sweat running into my eyes)... 😅

      @@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses They changed the name to Etihad to coincide with the change in the name of the road from Al Diyafah to 2nd December Street, this was in line with the opening of the Etihad museum at the end of the road where it meets Jumeriah Road to commemorate the signing of the declaration of 6 rulers to form the Union.

      I’m not sure about the lights, but I think only the one grille light of the tanker was broken in this clip. I could imagine that they break more easily in the Dubai climate due to extreme heat, dust, and humidity. While I was here it was 58 degrees with very high humidity! :o

    Great catches :D Awesome. If you visit the city of Mertert, you'll get surprised if you visit the Fire and Rescue Station "Mertert-Wasserbillig" (Centre d'Incendie et de Secours Mertert-Wasserbillig), you'll may catch the heavy rescue vehicle with crane (RW-K), which was acutally designed to run in Dubai. Fun fact is, that it even ran in Dubai (unfortunately, they couldn't tell me on which station the truck was based), and the Fire Station "Mertert-Wasserbillig" bought it from DCD. That's the reason, why the truck is acutally in a yellow base colour. The typical dark yellow colour isn't to be found, but the used red as second coulour. And the RW-K is also higher than their usual fire trucks.

    @BreadyToCrumble 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice catch! I'm really surprised that you managed to catch these lot, as not many others have Dubai Emergency Vehicles on video!
    Just a quick question, how long does it usually take for you to catch a few vehicles responding, cause I probably won't last an hour standing outside a station waiting for vehicles to respond!
    Also, a while back, there was a survey on whether you would try and get catches from Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia.
    Which did you go to?

    • @WorldwideEmergencies
      @WorldwideEmergencies 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depending on which city's firestations you go to, and how many calls they receive per day, can greatly influence your probability of catching something. You can go in a town and stay a few minutes and everything might turnout (but that takes A LOT of luck). In short, and also depending what time you go to a firestation, if you're lucky, you're good but then if you're not you, have to go to it when it's the "busiest" time of your city (in general). In Strasbourg (France) for example, going at the firestation between 5pm and 8 pm, it's better, because people come back from work or people are just hanging out outside or indoors and something might happen... But obviously, fires and all that can happen at anytime.

    • @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses
      @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I also didn’t expect to get this catch, because they only respond every two days or so! I was at the intersection trying to film ambulances and police cars, but then the fire station got a call!
      Good question. It always depends. Getting a good video can be time consuming and frustrating, it’s all up to where you go, how well you do your research, and what time you’re there. For this clip I only had to wait 20 minutes, but that is extreme luck. If you want to have a chance to catch fire trucks from a station you should be prepared to wait at least an hour, minimum. Some people wait a whole day (again it depends on where you are, there are big differences between North America and Europe for example) some people wait 6 to 8 hours, I personally don’t like waiting more than 3 hours at one place or station...
      Correct, and Singapore came out on top! I was planning to go there for a few days to film, but sadly my plans didn’t work out for this summer. However I still have some Singapore videos in store and will upload some very soon to honor the vote! Malaysia and Indonesia are also still on my list of course and I will make sure to get videos from there one day. 👍🏼

      Lol I did actually, it was 53 degrees that night (58 during the day, impossible to film). And contrary to common belief it is not dry in the city, but SUPER humid there during the summer (the haze and humidity stick around Dubai). So filming outside was unbearable, I had sweat running into my eyes while I recorded this and almost messed it all up... 😅

      TGG - Global Emergency Responses
      that's eerily quiet for a fire station in such a populated place, I'm assuming they don't bother with things like AFA and lift rescues?
      and i thought HK humidity was bad
      now all of a sudden -50 wind chill seems more attractive haha

    • @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses
      @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      mlps93 Yes very quiet, but just because of the way things are structured there. The civil defence only responds to fires as far as I know (and they also have quite a few stations all over Dubai). Medical emergencies, and most accidents are handled by the ambulance service, police and some kind of rescue squad (haven’t quite figured out that system lol). The AFA responses seem to be rare because they probably have a system where private security will check alarms first and only then call the fire department if necessary. So basically they’ll end up responding for confirmed fires...
      Yea no, 58 degrees with high humidity is about a bad as it gets...you almost can’t breathe 😆
