Abandoned- Federation era home with art nouveau themes and bungalow features. Random find!

  • Hey guys I found this home by accident while driving so I stopped off to check it out and indeed it is abandoned. I have tried my best to date it and I have come up with around 1915 as it has art nouveau themes and early bungalow features which came in around that time. It has a return veranda that has has had the roof redone but no front gable which was a reason it was hard to date from the outside. It seems to just predate the common bungalow that was extensively built in Adelaide from around 1916 to the mid 30`s. The art nouveau themes is what makes think it was not older than 1915 but I would love to know your estimates on the date? :-)
    Pretty much still all original inside which was great to see although in need of some love. The houses either side of this are also vacant/abandoned and at the time of this upload one has been demolished so I`m guessing this one and the bungalow to the right will have the same fate. I got to film the one on the right also another day once I realised it was also vacant. Hope you enjoy :-)

    So many original features to this house. I love the Tessellated tiles, deep bathtub, stained glass lead light windows and the glazed brick fireplace.
    I recon your right about the old garage, either that or it was a massive solarium 😆😆. The brick pillar in the garage was originally the framework for a wood or coal fired "copper" to heat water for clothes washing. It would have been quite a nice home in its day with a fairly substantial rear garden as well. Thanks for sharing this explore, great as usual. 👍

      So good seeing it still pretty well original Tim. One house to the left of this has been demolished, the one on the right is vacant too, I filmed it. So maybe all 3 will get knocked down. Cheers mate :-)

    I love this place! Looks like an artist may have lived there and worked out in the shed. Love the use of stained glass. Prodigious by today's standards and yet just a touch to lighten up each room. None of them were overdone in any way. Thanks so much for sharing it with us! (I agree on the dating - maybe 1910 - 1915).

    Definitely Art Nouveau/Arts and Craft period. Not something you see everyday, a place this old with all the original interior and glass. It has suffered from time and neglect, but you can see how beautiful it was when new. Nice size lot as well. It’s too bad that it will likely be pulled down with no regard for its history. I got my spackle and paint. How much for this beauty? Loved the wrap porch and side entrance. Not sure why they put the stove in the corner. That would have been counter space and moved the cabinets down (but not those, too overwhelmingly)to make room for stove and fridge. The porch would have a table for dining or just sitting with your coffee. The shed would be a nice laundry space. Could hang clothes outside to dry on a nice day. Then add music for dancing while you do laundry. There is enough room. Lol. That house needs love. You can't beat the sound of the birds and kids playing. Makes me smile. Thanks for sharing.

    Love exploring these old homes with you. I would say this dates around 1900, before the arts and crafts bungalows. The fire in the garage would have been for the copper to wash clothes.

    what has caused the big cracks in most of the homes you go into ? i love all the stain glass so much of it thru this house. so surprised no one painted the walls after all those years. thank you for taking us thru these old houses. keep up your videos...take care

      Hi karen, the clay soils of Adelaide mostly cause subsidence that then cause these cracks. Thanks for watching :-)

    In the shed I would say that was a wood fired washing copper. I remember my grandmother had one of those. I remember her poking the clothes with a stick to move them around

    I believe your date of build is accurate. 1910 to 1920 at the latest. Very orginal in build but arcatrave around doors, windows and floor skirting have been painted, along with the walls, as colour fade appears to be at a very similar rate. I believe the orginal colour of all woodwork could be in the primitive walk in pantry. Stained flooring appears well cared for and solid. A few of you shots show square access holes cut into floor for inspection and application of termite treatments. Bathroom and kitchen are primitive as you would find in orginal homes, with kitchen having a very basic upgrade. The stained glass doesn't appear to be the era of build, so may be replacements. Possible to update but land would be move valuable. Question : The red highlighting in the passage above the doors. Is that a wallpaper type border or a silkscreen? Never seen anything like the detail before. Another great explore Paul. 👍👍🇦🇺

      @urbexindigo5164  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew cheers for watching and giving your estimate, glad I was in the ball park :-) Yeah that pantry was really old and the red highlighting you are referring to looked to be stenciled right on the plaster? Glad you enjoyed this one mate, one bungalow next to it got demolished and i also filmed the bungalow to the right so maybe there is a big development going in here too.

    Greetings from Texas! I think you're spot on with the dating. The stenciling, interior doors and some of the hardware are very much influenced by American Arts & Crafts/Mission styles. Great find! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it. Keep finding wonderful places!

    What a beautiful bungalow. Would adore something like this. Great explore dude. The stained glass is beautiful. It could be a front door from a 1930’ semi in the UK

    The stencils on the walls near the ceiling are cool. From those, the stained glass windows, glazed brick fireplaces and the clawfoot tub I'd guess that the 1910 to 1920 age is right on target. The tile floor in the bathroom is also classic early ninteenth century. Weird picket fence cupboard doors??? I don't have a clue, never seen such a thing before. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

    I was just going to say I heard a kid scream lol. That cupboard looks like may have been built to look like a fort for a boy’s room. The stained glass is stunning. That looked like a washer next to the raised tile area in the shed, maybe laundry was in the shed, hence the insulation.
