Party composition: Twilight cleric, shadow sorcerer, hexblade darkness devil's sight warlock, shadow monk, gloom stalker ranger.
The party doesn't have a team name. They don't take quests from any npc's. They don't leave any witnesses in their wake. All the inhabitants of the campaign world know for sure is that there's a wandering 30 foot wide sphere of darkness roaming the countryside, killing anything in its way.

Imagine being a warlock who took the no-sleep Invocation and through his nightly meditations discovers a god that leads him to be a twilight cleric.
Early levels: See through darkness.
Next Level: Do not fear the darkness.
Later Level: Walk upon the darkness.
Capstone: Become the darkness.
This feels like a cleric of Eilistraee, who’s usually involved with the Light domain, but has people who need to be subtle
I really appreciate that this gives a very nice cleric domain for the raven queen. The grave domain, while wonderful and perfect for the role, really does have a large focus on the dying thing.
I would love a pair of clerics, one a Twilight Cleric, the other a Grave Cleric, travelling together and worshipping the same god.
This makes me want to play a twilight vampire cleric, who yearns for the Sun they can never have.
Even a Drow (with the sunlight sensitivity) could play well to this idea. I imagine an Albino Drow, with a strong enough will to resist the corruption of the Warlock class could play well within this vein.

My idea was a innocent young nun who worships Apollo, through unfortunate events became a vampire. She yearns for the sun's touch, but can only live in it's shadow. Her goal is to find a way to rid herself of evil and find a way to become human again. Just for kicks, I will call her Sunny Sinclair😉👍. Tell me more about yours!

Since I'm playing in ravnica right now, I'm designing an Orzhov Syndicate agent. He was bribed into their service at a young age, and his only way to freedom is to be a double agent with the Dimir. He tries to adjudicate with fairness when he can, but will not compromise himself while doing so out of fear. He is wise in the ways of intelligence gathering and strategy, but has some learning to do when it comes to matters of the heart. His name is Parthalan Beckett. A Cleric with Leomund's Tiny Hut as a domain spell certainly warms my cockles.
I am the knight of dreams. I am the night watch while you sleep, I fend off the eternal advance of nightmares. I represent the court of the Moon and Stars, protecting the dark from the shadows.
I also make Underdark Races feel and be inadequate, I'm the Twilight Cleric.

I love how this domain seems to favor the idea of preparing for battle, rather than being immediately useful in the midst of combat. With the advantage on initiative and the perfect darkvision, it really lends itself to thinking tactically before the fight begins.
This domain has so many great things going on. I mean flying around at night roof to roof could be a Santa move, a vigilante looking for crime, or honestly a monster character looking to haunt a city and appear at windows of residents. The role-playing options for a twilight cleric that builds their legend as a shadow through town that provides support for those who are lost at night or heading home or even a terror in the trees of the park who preys on residents. With Halloween in mind, you could have them appear on a roof and float down to PCs, with a mask on obviously :), and offer guidance down a path towards a location where the cleric's divination has seen both a dark and light outcome. I actually kind of picture Rictus from The Thief of Always coming to collect people for a demiplane but I'm excited to see it play out :) It's super cool!

I mean, Out of the Abyss is mostly an Underdark campaign.

defenseive kobra when the essentials kit came out they released 3 sk classes and levels 1-6 in the rulebook, and level 7-12 on D&D beyond. I have a video on my channel about the first levels, and actually a video coming out tomorrow about the update and how these relate to the original sk unearthed arcana!

I got Moon Knight vibes with this, especially with the heavy armor option. It'd be fun to be The One Who You See Coming as this huge figure in white who can always find their way through the night, and nobody can hide from...

I've been playing this Cleric for about a week now, levels 1 to 4 now.
I LOVE the concept! Kinda edgy, but not so much. Playing as a Morpheus devote, using Sleep for many RP moments.
New party: Shadow Monk, Conquest Paladin, Twilight Cleric, Gloomstalker Ranger, and Shadow Sorcerer.
Matt DeKok sounds like a massive edge-fest just waiting to happen.

Imagine what it will be like for the Shadow Sorcerer when he learns that his Eyes of the Dark: 120ft darkvision is useless. Also, the Dwarfs, Elves, Gnomes, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Tieflings, Aasimar, Tabaxi, Bugbear, Hobgoblin, Goblin, Kobold, Orc, Yuan-Ti Pureblood, Fire Genasi, and Simic Hybrid darkvision is also useless.

Sounds like an appropriate domain for a Cleric of Selune, or maybe even a Cleric of Solinari/Lunitari/Nuitari if a DM running a DragonLance campaign allowed a cleric to serve the Gods of Magic.

WexMajor82 i had a follower of Eilistraee planned for a future campaign that was a rogue. Then Twilight Domain came out and I literally cried because it was perfect

I really hope they keep working on this Domain, it has so much potential. I love the idea of a subversion of the usual Dark archetype and the focus on supporting the party outside of basic healing. It has problems, I think it should have access to a few different spells and the individual upgrades need some fine tuning, but as someone who loves the Moon and the symbolism associated with it and prefers to play support, I think this could be an amazing Domain option.
I eat this nuance up like it's a gourmet full-course meal. I dreamed up an entire character watching this video, and I WILL play as them one of these days
I love that they made the twilight domain with ideas of rest as well as darkness.
I started world building what I will now make a Homebrew, with an idea that the "Dark God" is not evil, but misunderstood, much like the night, with his wife being the Moon Goddess and one of rest, so this twilight domain I find really interesting.
I can imagine an Orzhov Syndicate (or double agent Dimir?) fitting really well within this archetype. The Raven Queen parallels are strong as well. Definitely an iconic idea. A Twilight Domain / Shadow Monk BBEG could be truly horrifying
The twilight domain so fits the nature of my next character, a dark elf who believes in the balance of light and darkness. Previously, I'd been planning to use the light domain, and had been struggling to figure out why this calm, serene figure would have access to fireball and other destructive magics. Now, finally, I will have a domain that perfectly fits my character.
It also helps that the mechanics look very fun, though not overpowered.

This seems like a perfect answer for if your players abuse seeing in magical darkness frequently. Just have baddies who are shadow clerics. Not for every encounter. Just enough so things don’t get stale

Was talking with my gm about that unlimited dark vision being EXTREMELY strong. We thought it would get be cool if it was changed to be that you always see as if dim light. Mid day, to blackest night, you always see as in dim light
I played a Twilight Cleric yesterday in a one off game and even a level 3 it was fun. Channel Divinity is very useful for the party. Going to play tonight at level 6 and looking forward to the additional spells and domain features.
I have to say you do a better job explaining what this Domain is supposed to represent here than in the Unearthed Arcana Article, but as for the subclass itself I fear it may be a bit too powerful.
Luckily it only need a little nerfing to fix luckily

This batch of archetypes is making me ponder a campaign based on Slavic mythology in a world with a dying sun that sheds little light throughout the day. These character options create a motif of witch hunters or Van Helsing style adventures.
Biggest issue with the twilight cleric is that they get martial weapons (and to a lesser extent heavy armor), they aren't a smashy hold the line cleric like the tempest or war domains, they're a witchy caster type and should get the caster-cleric suite of abilities.
In my setting that's heavily based on the "Gothic" videogame series, there are 3 gods. Innos (Order), Adanos (Balance) and Beliar (Chaos). The Twilight Domain seems great for clerics of Adanos.
Best thing in gothic is "der Grüne Novize" :D

Do does anyone else think these last 4 UA releases are teasing a planar adventures or feywild book? All the new subclasses are either directly related to an outer or elemental plane, or they're heavily focused on social encounters and might be mandatory to talk your party out of the clutches of an arch fey's throne room/ballroom/dungeon.

though i fear that this unlimited darkvision as a lvl1 class feature might be broken in a sense that a simple one lvl dip into cleric will give any character access to very strong darkvision, making darkness as a plot device even more useless than it is right now...
TheScarvig it just lets you see they can still hide go invisible among other things not to mention fighting is a whole other beast
ooooooooooooooooooooooooo boi, i know what my next character is gonna be. Just started a cleric playthrough with descent into avernus on my channel and i kind of love cleric. my next character is going to be a Drow Twighlight Cleric of Zinzerena that multiclasses rogue.
This multi-classed with ranger would be very fun.
Problem: ruins the drow ranger shulker build with several goggles of the night
I'm currently playing a Twilight Cleric - Gloom Stalker Ranger multiclassed Shifter in an Eberron campaign. We're two sessions in and this might be my all time favourite build

You don't know your fans, we noticed the infinite range of darkvision. Some people think it should be nerfed. (Not me though, I think it should have been magical darkvision at LV1)
It needs a lot of mechanics reigned in, but it's a cool subclass conceptually
(I still would prefer a Darkness/Shadow domain, but if we ain't gonna get one of those this will do.)
Rewatching this after finishing Fantasy High: Sohpmore Year. That one had a very interesting conversion to this subclass and a philosophy that was about being comfortable with doubt and not knowing. This was contrasted by the godd's older sister who was the moon goddess and also had twilight clerics but was much more assertive in what she wanted
I personally get a fey feel to it, but I like that it's pretty malleable when it comes to how a person wants to theme it. I don't fully get the heavy armor feature, but maybe it's there for balance?
You are going to need the armor because twilight is dim and full of terrors.
I think that the heavy armor and martial weapons, are for protecting others that can't survive the darkness on their own. Also, so you can fight the terrors that live in the darkness.

Playing a Kenku cleric of the twilight domain, thank ye for this fun class honestly my favorite I’ve had to play as healer.
Just started a campaign where I'm playing one of three Moon Worshipping Kobolds that so far together (at level 5) are pretty much self sustaining. There's a Life and Twilight Cleric and a Moon Druid. And I will say, the Twilight Cleric was the real MVP. Super fun, super effective.
Van Helsing worked for the church, killing monsters. He definitely had the Twilight domain.

Oh, trust me, we did NOT miss the unlimited range of the cleric's dark vision XD Quite the contrary, it's one of the first things that comes up in reviews, tied with the 1d8 temp hit point aura this cleric gives.
I love this cleric's flavor! It's badass, it's interesting! But I would not be surprised, nor be mad, if it were nerfed.

I'm really liking the idea of this cleric, a shadow monk or just a rogue, a shadow soul sorcerer, and a gloomstalker in a party together playing a themed game/campaign, maybe they're all drow and suited to the darkness, and this cleric is sort of the one who gives them hope and bravery. Twilight clerics also have an interesting relationship with the light clerics too because they represent the duality and transition of night and day

This is a really cool subclass. I'm considering multiclassing into this with my ranger (thought I'd love to play just Twilight Cleric too, it looks great on its own).
I made a homebrew for a Domain of the Moon with similar intention, spells, and features (including darkvision). I also included the Darkness domain from UA in my campaign. There's 7 moons in my world so the moons are seen as the force of nature that keeps away the power of darkness and evil at night. The moon goddess is called the liberator and is the goddess of hope. It's not a melee combatant but a caster domain so you gain a bonus cantrip rather than armor and weapon proficiencies.
My first Cleric was the Twilight Cleric. And I love her! I currently have her ( Helja Ironfist ) at Level 12.
As someone who plays a disc priest. Someone who walks the line of balance between the darkness and light.. I approve.

I like this subclass it made me want to play Cleric. We started a new game and my GM said I have to lower the infinite Darkvision to 120ft and I was pissed... I still like the concept though.

It's because (in reference to your sense and wonder of Twilight) Twilight is the border between the night world and the day world. Between mundane and magic.
It's also been bred into you throughout the countless generations of our species. Twilight brings the darkness and the danger and the unknown as all the little thoughts and stories in the back of your mind, the ones from dreams you can't remember but you can almost taste the primal fear that might be there. Twilight brings all that to your upper subconscious.
The fact that is is also soothing at times, the false sense of security we feel in our own homes after a day of work and toil, unless you are in the wilderness...
I am working on a Eldritch Knight Drow who plays like a Twilight Cleric mix with Redemption Paladin. Though he is an EK he seeks redemption and wants to help and support people. He also worships Eilisetraee.
First thing that came to my mind when Todd asked about philosophy of a twilight cleric was the Nightelves from Warcraft 3 :D

I wrote an entire character and back story including poems and short stories based off of the concept of the Twilight Domain. The story follows a Drow and his path to redeeming himself and his men that he served with.
Just made a very interesting character using this subclass and I am beyond keen to try him out!

That dark vision ability seems op. Or at least a middle finger to any DM trying to make a scary scenario in the dark for the party.
Now I want a Gloomstalker Twilight Cleric so that my Darkvision range is "Sight+30 feet".
...Then I can see farther than I can see.

Twilight, dusk and dawn, have a very fairy-tale quality to me. Especially with fly speed it reminds me of fairies and thus the Queen of Air and Darkness. Sadly she isn't a nice Lady, but I can still try to play my Peter Pan-esque cleric in that sort of direction with some setting tweaks.
and here I am working on a homebrew version of eilistraee and her followers.... Always nice to have new things to add to the DM toolkit :)
Up until this point I have never had any inclination to play a cleric. I would go as far as to say it was my least favorite class. That said I NEED TO PLAY THIS CLERIC! I am a 2x cancer survivor I have spent many days in the hospital and at home feeling absolutely terrible and almost always found solace and refuge in the night. The darkness is where I found respite from the cruel reality of my days. I resonate with this domain and can't wait to play it. I feel though unlike most characters I play I can really put myself into the character on a personal level.
This cleric class sounds amazing and ill love to make a character just to try it out

I love this one.
I think this would be great domain for Love and Lust Gods, like Sune, Llirra, Sharess/Zandilar, who tend to have more nocturnal then other goodly cleric types.
It seems like the bonus proficiencies & divine strike don't fit the theme as well as a bonus cantrip & potent cantrip might.
Also I feel like the midnight shroud would be better as a 6th level channel divinity & Steps of the Brave (maybe buffed a little) would be a better capstone. Mostly for a 17th level ability to give you utility with a spell you gained at level 3 seems... pointless. Especially when warlocks & shadow sorcerers get the effect at 2nd & 3rd level respectively. I don't think it'd be a balance issue with them either since as a channel divinity it would be limited where the lock & sorc are not. It also fits the theme of most cleric channel divinity being helpful to allies.
Since it's twilight rather than having abilities that work in both dim light or darkness, maybe it should have abilities that have slightly different effects depending on the current light level. Seems a bit odd that Twilight domain is just great in pure darkness but useless in bright light. Seems a bit odd thematically for something that is named for balancing light and dark.
It would make for interesting gameplay to be constantly lighting or snuffing torches to gain different effects. Also wouldn't drive you to hate the flametongue-wielding fighter as much.
Want to play Riddick? Twilight Cleric/Gloomstalker Ranger. I like the synergy.

It's a cool concept. I would like to see WotC gove some attention to their existing subclasses and tweak them a bit to bring them up to par with all these new ones, though.

Making it a super tank Cleric that eliminates darkness as a challenge doesn't feel comforting to me
I can see a God of eclipse where the cleric of this god has 2 type of follow the light and the twilight they will scorch you in the light and consume you in the night
Warcraft shadow priest I like it
love it, my only gripe is the lack lust 17th level ability. having to use concentration on something that most enemies at that level can see through anyways is kinda meh. resistance to necrotic and radiant would be nice instead? along with something that revolves around the "dim" light/twilight the class is based off of?
also slap skulker and eyes of the eagle on that baby and you're number 1 night recon.

Did they say whether or not the channel divinity ability allows them to set a light level to dim light regardless of the current light level? For example, could they create a sphere of dim light outside under the noon sun?
