I've always been a fan of this song, but never thought of it as a gospel song, until seeing this last year... Hallelujah!! What a very powerful performance!!
There's actually a You Tube video of U2 performing this song back in the 80s with a church choir from Brooklyn, NY... You might want to check it out... I thought it was awesome.
Bono says, “Bring me to church. Selah.” It intrigued me so discovered Selah in the Psalms means - to pause and reflect. So we are naming our 7th daughter Selah!
YESSS!!! Such a powerful song and performance!! Bono was actually calling out the name of the gospel choir you hear - Selah Gospel Choir!! Our singers were hidden in plain sight seated among the rest of the audience members. They had no idea we were going to start singing as many of them started checking their seats for microphones, too!! It was a brilliant idea very well executed and so impactful - WE still get the chills every time we watch it, too!!
Nobody pulls this sort of thing (interacting with fans/other performers not in the band) off better than U2. And they’ve done it basically from day one. Live Aid is an example of it. I love the look on Edge’s face at 3:42. You could tell he’s actually enjoying the show. It must be uniquely satisfying to see someone else performing something you wrote. Especially other highly skilled performers. As this choir clearly is.
Agree 100%. Another good one is the one they did at the 25th anniversary of the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden with Bruce Springsteen. It’s a similar arrangement to this except Bruce alternates verses with Bono and basically takes the role of the gospel choir in this performance. It’s phenomenal. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.
Amazing! Such a blessing to my soul. “He will lift you higher and higher; He will give you shelter from the storm” juxtaposed with “still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. Jesus is the answer . . . not politics, religion, economics, or even health. Jesus Christ is what we are looking for. Amen!
It's a shame that U2 is bringing gospel without actually giving the good news. What are these people worshiping? I still haven't found what I'm looking for because our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God. That's the good news. And Bono, the Edge and Larry believe this, and Adam has probably come around too--he is after all named after the first Adam.
U2 actually almost broke up early in their careers because three of them could not rectify their Christian faith with rock 'n' roll. Read "One Step Closer: Why U2 Matters to Those Seeking God." I just found a copy for four bucks on eBay.
@@ramonarellano4988 I wouldn't say faith needs a doubt. That's certainly not the motivation for faith. If Bono means that truth has a falsehood, that's certainly true.

My Mom brought me to my 1st concert @ Soldier Field in June, 1997 (nite of Tyson ear biting Holyfield) at the U2 Pop tour. Was never a big fan until that nite. Still the coolest thing ever for a 12 y/o & wouldn’t want it any other way!
Found this based on a recommendation from a comment on Rick Beato’s analysis video - what a happy discovery.
Same!
Woow
U2 is the most powerful singer and performer on earth
That's my choir people!!!!! Selah Gospel Choir of Pasadena, California. DA BESTEST!!!!! Check 'em out on YT and hire them!!!

Check out "Rattle & Hum," both the album and the movie. I love this version, too
@@joehinson9460 I have heard several songs from that album; my favorite is "When Love Comes to Town", with B.B. King.
The whole along is about Jesus and never finding fulfillment until we get to heaven
This version of the song gets to me every time I hear it. Every. Single. Time.
Just watched it again and crying like a baby again.
Watching this brought tears to my eyes!!! It amazing how music can do that! Love U2 and there great music!!!
Still powerful after all these years, hits me in the gut every time!

Easily one of the best performances of this song.

Like Bono says in "Hawckmoon 269" faith needs a doubt.

Like nicotine

As the room spins around
I need your love
Like a Phoenix rising needs a holy tree
Like the sweet revenge of a bitter enemy

Like the hot needs the sun
Like honey on her tongue

Like someone to blame
Like a thought unchained
Like a runaway train

Like powder needs a spark
Like lies need the dark
I need your love
In the heat of the love in the heart
