You’re probably my favorite reviewer despite not being a huge technic fan. I watch every review even when I probably won’t get the set. And I especially love when you do the occasional system set
separate motors at the back looks like something that could be useful for a tracked vehicle or one motor for drive input and second one as gear selector - this could actually be a fastest set if they made the gearbox and an app that would automatically adjust the gears based on the load on the motor.
Yeeeeaaahhh, I've been waiting for this review for a long time. I would have liked you to put it next to the Ford GT, since they are the same scale, but it looks incredible. As for the performance, I know it may have disappointed many, but for me it is enough to buy it. I will be excitedly waiting for more videos of this set and the reviews of the others
So we just went full circle from old bulky RC dedicated Lego motors, through amazing PowerFunctions, just to reach another generation of bulky motors with almost one purpose, just to be slower and with Bluetooth lag. Amazing, i miss old sets like 8366 Supersonic , 8369 Dirt Crusher or 8675 Outdoor Challenger, and others
Thank you for the detailed review. If you don't mind, I have a few two questions: 1. How well do the fiber optics fit into the pins and cross axles? Is it a loose, or a tight fit - 3,0 standard diameter or a custom 3,2 LEGO version? 2. Does the new hub have enough torque to spin the wheels? 3. What's the gear ratio between the side and back outputs? Thank you and keep up the good work!
The fiber optics fit in the pin tight. Spinning the wheels always depends on the surface, it spins on a tile if you block the car, but not on the carpet :) I think the gear ratio is 1:1, but the hub is in the car so it's difficult to check at the moment.
Although I’ve never been a fan of sets in this scale I absolutely love the shapes of this one. All the wheel arches and the rear is really nice and I’m positively surprised how good it looks in a home setting. The optic cables are a big plus for me as there could be a potential to make some pretty cool light arrangements with those.
Alternate rear motor output is excellent for 4 wheel drive vehicles, such as the Audi e-tron set. Would be cool to mod the e-tron to integrate this new hub Also, a detachable battery suggests that we may see a high power hub with 2 battery inputs.
Highly doubt that, two batteries would make it run twice as long, but would be twice as heavy too Internal safety limits won't allow that much current imho
Me too. I had those two models, and they are both fast. I think faster than the new ones. Also steering with physical pad was easier for me, than on the touch screen.
I think if they weren’t going to give it a suspension anyway they should have made it at a smaller scale, similar to the old TG Rally car. That way it would have been probably lighter too. Maybe the hub wouldn’t fit the shape of the Cayman at a smaller scale though.
It’s possible that they didn’t race the vehicles, but just claimed the new was faster based on the motor specs. You said you found the new motor was faster, so in theory given the same gearing and wheel size, the new _motor_ would make a faster vehicle, and I could see TLG thinking there’s no point trying to make comparisons of entire drivetrains because there’s so much variability. …and then somehow that clear, unambiguous comparison got lost on the way to the final ad copy, and it became a claim about not just the entire drivetrain but the entire vehicle.
Even if the buggy is a little bit faster. I think it's safe to say that with the same wheels and weight, the new hub would be faster in the end. I still prefer having separate motors tho
I'm not interested at all in the car but the fibre optics draw my attention. Even if I don't have much hope I would love to see it with a different light source in classic lego themes as space replacing the embarrassing light brick
I can wait for the Volvo truck review! Main thing I want to know is if trailers compatible with the Mack anthem will be able to be used with the Volvo.
Is there enough space between the hub and the wheels to apply some gears? It could be worth it to upgrade the set with some gearing to make it go faster; WE NEED A FASTER RACE CAR!
Question since you have it to hand, can you run the motor box on just USB-C? Can you run it with the provided battery while it charges too? I suspect the answer to both is no, but it'd be handy if it's yes!
would have been nice if the steering motor was detachable from the main body, then it could have been orientated more to the builders liking, but it is nice to make a self contained RC unit that 'kinda' reminiscent of the old buggy/RC system. as anaddendam, I would still love if lego would give us a pack of a hub and 2 or 3 motors just for building RC models,
It would have been nice if a charging cable was supplied as we have to spend so much on the set as it is. I however will be getting this set as a technic builder. I guess we can use any USB-C cable. I am looking forward to seeing the Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Yacht review as I am from New Zealand. Thanks @RacingBrick
The high speed claim is just as in real life cars pure marketing. It was probably done under laboratory conditions on a special test track and has nothing to do with actual play testing. The Audi still remains a better deal imo. Happy about the comeback of fibre optics though. Makes me hope for a large 8480 comeback.
11:09 "I think the buggy was a little bit faster." You mean that buggy driving a longer distance (obvious curve in its route) but getting to the black lines on the ground faster? Nah....

No firmware flashing interface on the new hub? No replacement batteries? Surely, this must be causing a huge public outcry! People, you need to realize when you're in the process of being trapped in an "ecosystem". Don't let companies do this to you!
You cannot, unless you are a reviewer with a set provided by LEGO. The public version should be available in a week when the set is officially released.
I dont like the use of the fiber optic piece in this set over adding ports for the already existing wired lights. It seems to be a cost cutting decision that also goes against what I thought was one of the core values of Lego, versatility.

I just realised, that, maybe, when they advertised the set as the fastest as of August 2024, they meant the fastest of the sets, that are available to purchase as of August 2024?
To start with a positive! I do like the lights! Other than that....very much feels like a missed opportunity. Still slow, lacks any kind of flexibilty, still extremely overpriced, and still no physical controller. What is the size/scale of this set, would be cool if you could do a size comparison to a fixed standard model like you used to do by seeing if it fits on the technic car transporter, maybe at the end of each review or as a stand alone future video or even as a series by year or something....
You could see it next to the buggy and the Audi, that should help defining the scale. A lot of LEGO cars have a unique scale, not everything fits on the car transporter... It might be a funny thing at the end of the year but I'm not sure it is that useful in every video.
I still wonder how well it would do compared to one of the pullbacks, the buggy for instance. Would love to build it, but no interest in the driving feature. So...
Cool! What's your opinion on the audi? Inhave the pickup truck crawler and the kids have a blast with it. My eldest wants something faster and not sure if I should go for this for him or the audi?

I want it because of the new integrated hub (which I'm planning to put into an other car MOC) but it's a bit overpriced for what to me feels like a much smaller, more limited set. Around 120 euros MSRP would have been much better.
Hello, actually the fastest set is 42176 Porsche GT4. The most important factors here are weight, rpm and wheel radius. But the Porsche doesn't have the buggy's wheels, so it clearly isn't the fastest SET. They didn't claim "you could build a faster car with the new hub" :)
They do light up during the testing at 4:29, but otherwise they are not in use. Since the Control+ profile is the only way to control the hub at the moment, some alternative app access would be required to make them work.
