    I can confirm last point doesn work on every reptile. I had a crested gecko that didnn't like handling. I tried to be near his vivarium for some time and handle him every day. He was always trying to get away from melater he even started biting. Eventually I gave up and treated him just as a display animal. After 2-3 months of not handling him, and just cleaning his enclosure once a week and filling his food bowl every other day, he stopped going into panic mode every time I opened his anclosure and started jumping on my hand himself and just chill on it. Every animals needs his own approach.

      It's really important to get to know your individual animal and learn to read the signs of them feeling threatened. My adult female used to just torpedo herself into a corner when she was skittish, my male (?) juvenile opens his mouth and starts "threatening" me. They are the same species, but deal with threats very differently, so I need to learn to read them, know when they show the first sign of being uncomfortable and act accordingly.
      I have used force handling only with dogs and only in very very specific cases. It can work, but likely not a good idea unless the handler is 100% sure what they are doing and have good reasons to do so. On average, choice-based handling seems to consistently yield better and more reliable and long lasting results.

    I’m in the process of taking my juvenile b&w tegu Achilles and have been enforcing some of these tips and after 2 months he let me pick him up for a solid minute before darting off which In My book is a huge step. Keep up the good work! Love the video brother

    I like the arm/tong technique, I feel like that's one of the more effective ways to get them used to you since crawling on you by themselves when they're NOT being fed is how they usually show they're comfortable with you in their reptile way.

    Awesome video bro I like all your videos 💯 I really want a caiman so bad I been trying to get one for about 2 years but I stay in apartment and I’m about to move into a house so now I can get one. Now the hardest thing is finding out how to spend a lot of time with it. Food is not that issue i work in a seafood department the issue is spending time. How long should I spend time with one ? Also if you know any website to get one

    How big of a tank would a male need like in feet ? I love these lizards but don't know weather I can fit them

    • @TheReptileProject
      @TheReptileProject  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Captain Obvious they are definitely going to need something bigger than a tank. A 7x3x5 is recommended for the land and arboreal space. You are also going to need to have about a 100gal aquarium

      No offense but he wasn’t referring to just caimen lizards, as these are a very advanced species to keep in captivity and are not for your average reptile keeper. They’re more for facilities and what not. People that grow they’re hobby to more. That’s what everyone is failing to realize. Need to stop and ask yourself, do you really like the lizard like you said u do? There’s other traits then looks that you need to go by. And if your just getting a fish tank for this guy, then you shouldn’t get them.

      This comment right here is super agreeable make sure you have enough time,space,and money to take care of an animal like that.Don’t just get an animal just because you feel like you just wanted to buy one make sure you can actually provide proper care for the animal.

    You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus the anointed is Lord! Repent and be baptized and believe the Gospel.
