this was an amazing video to see. I kept aquariums for about 10 years with 6 aquariums. I always dreamt of a paludarium, but never worked up to it. This video truly shows what is possible in the aquarium world.
@@PilotJirons Yes! I would say it's definitely worth the time to go out there at least once on a weekend to see all the amazing enclosures and animals they have. You could also pick up some supplies while you're there if you need any.
I understand the need for the artificial larger items because of the weight etc. but would love to see it jammed full of live plants etc ... expensive but would be an awesome "dream" project.... LOVE the lizard!!! 💖
Having a version of this with all real rock and plants would be an awesome permanent piece, like built into the wall or something, with a maintenance room behind it. But that's pretty big doing right there!!
Caiman Lizards are so beautiful and fascinating. I first saw them at Brookfield Zoo and was immediately infatuated with them. They have extremely specialized diets (snails) and environmental requirements (Very large semi-aquatic) making them unsuitable for keeping outside of the most experienced keepers. I still enjoy seeing them either way. :)
Great video, I've seen this tank featured in a number of vids from people at aquashella but thank you for a very in depth and cinematic feature on this incredible paludarium. Also really enjoyed that other one you featured and referred back to in this video, that one is one of my favorites and more my style personally. I really want to try to build one of these some day and looking forward to seeing that project you and your friend are working on. Again thanks for sharing Alex!
Pretty closely related to tegus. I'm planning an enclosure for one, which is what brought me here. This looks a little small, but I'm interested in how well it coexists with that frog and those fish, and I'm curious how long they all lived together for, with what kind of problems.
Thank you for doing coverage on this paludarium! I wasn't able to get a close look at it at Aquashella because of the massive crowds, but it was definitely an amazing setup.
You could give me a chair, food, water and this terrarium and i'd be intertained for the rest of my life. The way caiman lizards move is just so mafical really, just gliding thru the water almost effortless.
Wow that lizard is awesome I want one I live in Kingman Arizona and I see all kinds of different lizards when I take walks certain areas it's so awesome

@@metamorphosisx6641 if you want you can do that but for planted tanks its not really necessary as plants will simply break down the waste and use it as nutrients, which will be further aided by the nitrifying bacteria. it would just be for aesthetics, especially if you plan to use light-colored sand like in the video in which case waste might stand out more in. either way you wouldn't require siphoning more than once every few weeks or months depending on how planted your set up is and how you prefer the look of the tank
You could have higher humidity without too much condensation with that top. Just add fine misters. I have a 120cm discus paludarium, with only fish and it is completely open to the air and has a weeper hose dripping slowly from the top like a soft rain. I have to cut the plants back every week the tropical plants grow so well. My setup cost me about $700 with the discus.
Where did you buy said caiman lizard? I can't find one for the life of me and it's the only thing that will fill out my giant paladarium btw that's still too small for them.
I made something like this in the early 2000. I used wood, artificial plants, and I also made a waterfall. I also kept a lot of feeder fish, they also bred, for my pet water snake which I built the palladium for.
3 sides are awesome , and more comfort for the animals . I have 2 medium exo's with 5 juvie garters in each one with the 3 sides , they are way calmer in that , opposed to the one with just a back drop . With that one, they have 3 sides clear that they wish to go thru constantly .
I would definitely want all 3 sides decorated. I would ask custom aquariums if they could maybe make a single sliding, removable, shatter-resistant glass door. Like one of those hurricane proof sliding doors.
Gorgeous!! However the caiman lizard is probably only a third of the adult size, if not smaller. They won't fit in there as adults for sure but for now it looks amazing!!
i would have asked for an upward opening door i think, that would be the best of both worlds, you dont get the verticale dividing line and you still get wrap around hard scape
I am interested in a caiman lizard. How much maintenance is necessary for this aquarium? How much do you have to change the filters and how expensive is it?
@@janoshaas5533 the tank alone is 135 gallons lmao, and it's custom made. The ADA 120-P is an 80G non-custom. That is 1,150.. Tank is probably in the 5-6k range, with everything else probably 1-2.5k.
If I look at this like "map editor" LARPing, it strangely makes more sense to me; recreating environments displays your mastery of the delicate balance required-- the first paludarium with mostly plants was quite a view as you pull away. I can't imagine how that brightens the landscape of his home on a daily basis.
You should get the pure freshwater archer fish for the tank, the species is toxotes blythii, they need pure freshater and rarely get to be a max of 6 inches in captivity. Just make sure if you get some, to not get 2 because one will bully the other to death. SO either 1 or more than 2;)
I'm guessing there is about $5,000 to $6,000 worth of equipment hidden underneath and in the back? This tank is same size as mine but twice as tall. I have about $1k into mine. If there is really $7,000 invested in this then somebody needs to be a more savvy shopper.
So incredibly cool and unique. I will say though even considering how amazing the setup is on it's own , without the camin lizard it just doesnt have that wow factor. He is definitely needed. Just my opinion.
If you don't mind the cost of epoxy resin you can take styrofoam and glue it together and shape it how you want. Then for the area's you want to coat mix the shavings with a epoxy mix and apply with a trowel. When epoxy resin is cured it's animal safe.
Think i would have gotten everything under and around to be steel so it dont rot if it gets damp/wet every time you do some work on it and some drops fall onto the wood
How do you deal with water quality every time the lizard takes a dump? I would imagine the lizard drinks that same water. Even if you do a water change every night, it might have to go all day with its own waste floating around contaminating the water it drinks. Or do these lizards only drink from the waterfalls? 200 gallons total is not enough for the size dump these lizards can take and bacteria can't break it down fast enough.
