Churros are sold year round in bars but in winter various food trucks appear in the residential neighbourhoods selling them as they are typical to eat with hot chocolate when it’s cold.
All the wonderful fresh and delicious local food that is readily available in Madrid and you select the cheapest, unhealthiest ultra touristy examples. You’ve done this great city a disservice.
I came as a tourist, hence the tourist food. If you wanted to taste the best Madrid had to offer, I think more than 24 hours would be needed to give it the justice it deserves.
Welcome to my city! The last food you couldn't find, perhaps it's a Suso? Mercadona supermarkets tend to carry them, in case you come back someday and wish to complete the challenge. Hope you enjoyed your stay here!
How appropriate that this video was uploaded the day I had just returned from Madrid! Cafeterías seems to be the key spot to find churros I have noticed. Since this was a food challenge, I knew certain options would be on there. Although I expected to see tortillas and jamón, patatas bravas. Hope you enjoyed your time in Spain. Certainly a gastronomically rich country. I love how the average city in Spain will have restaurants specializing in food from other regions such as Catalonia, Galicia, and the Basque region. Great video Scott!
@@isobelmatheson8036 .... certainly not in the centre....! But still restaurants who usually have MdelD would have a decent plato combinado on Sunday....as long as it's not too fancy! We stopped eating out in the centre of Madrid many years ago!
WOW. Monk Parakeets also live here in New York City. These birds became feral and are able to survive the cold winters by building nests next to electrical transformers and other places that generate warmth. These birds are loud but colorful.
@1:15 that looks like the same room layout I had, but it was in Basel, Switzerland. My hotel was the Ibis Budget at Muenchensteinerstrasse Bruecke, about 1 km east of the SBB rail station. It shares one side of the building along with the Novotel, and is right next to the university's college of economics campus. My room had 3 prong earthed "type J" outlets that can also accept the two prong non-earthed"Type C" plugs.
I was in Madrid in March and had calamari at the exact same spot!! Calamari and patatas bravas. The line was so long they weren’t letting anyone in anymore and were just serving the line outside. Now knowing I ate from the same spot as you and Steve, I feel special lol
Similar to the suso / xuixo, yet much easier to find in any pastries shop in Madrid and the whole of Spain, is the 'pepito de crema'. Give it a try next time!
Theres a lot of those parakeets in and around London too. Mostly they've come from a small population of escaped pets that have gone on to thrive in the wild.
The ones on London are a different species, very similar looking though the Ring Neckeds in London. Also it's not know where the population is from but the main suspect is an old film set from back in the day.

Ive had churros in Madrid, but I think its not really considered a streetfood. How I got it was at 8 am in a local cafe as a breakfast item with my coffee. And that Ibis budget is great. Love that area, Vallecas its called I believe. A real working class area with hardly any tourists.
When you are visiting a different country you also like to eat a lot of the food from that country and the food from Spain looks very good, this was a great look at Madrid and the food as well of course thank you and have a wonderful week.🇬🇧👋👋🇪🇦

Scott, this video would have been a great deal more fun for your viewers (or at the very least, for this viewer) if you had listed the 5 items you were looking for at the beginning of the episode. 🙂
What were the five types of Spanish food you were looking for as mentioned at the start? I guess fish food is a type. Pastries maybe. Just not sure. From my visit to the fabulous Madrid, churros seemed easy to find (although not sure what type they come under)..
The food looked delicious, especially the paella. I’d never heard of #5 so googled it. A churro-croissant hybrid filled with Catalan creama. Yep. I’d have kept searching for it too.
Great wander! I must admit I've never heard of item no.5 before? Maybe Barcelona would have been easier for it! Although when you were seeking it out, I noticed some delicious looking roscas de yema in a bakery window - trust me - add those to your list for next time. I often find Madrid quite difficult to get what I'm after, I swear in Salamanca, you could have completed your challenge within one street. You've certainly put me in the mood for some Spanish food though, maybe tomorrow ;)
That churro was not a churro! But a porra. It seemed not to be crunchy so I asume it was mostly cold.. Funny because he passed by a chocolatería in Plaza Benavente that even though they were not the best, they could have had fresh fríed once. 24 hours spent falling from one tourist trap the next in the city cenrer

Street food doesn't happen much in Spain. It's not the done thing to ealk around and eat, it's more acceptable to sit down, even if it's only 10 minutes.
