Maggie, I totally agree with you about the dentist! I hated going to the dentist after an extremely bad interaction with a dentist when I was a child. I, like you, could feel everything in my jaw teeth even after numbing. Then I found an amazing dentist who knew exactly what and why I “couldn’t” be “numbed” up.. he told me that there are some people who are “blessed” with extra nerves in their jaw teeth and I was one of them! Now mind you he was being sarcastic when he said I was “blessed” but with a few extra strategically placed numbing shots it was like magic! He was able to numb everything! When he was nearing retirement I was like “no you can’t go” I even went as far as to ask him to pull ALL my jaw teeth before he closed his practice. Which he refused to do, but he did tell me to let any new dentist I saw know I have extra nerves in my jaw teeth and I haven’t had any issues since. I tell them I have extra nerves and get a couple extra shots and I’m good to go!

I quit smoking, down on TPN to every other night, lost 12 lbs, 30 to go. Get cataract surgery, see a cardiologist, declutter, PT for feet and back. Be able to stand for more than 5 min before severe back pain and short breath. Wow this is alot.

Hey Maggie, retired dental hygienist here. Definitely see an Oral Surgeon (they have far more training and experience in extractions than a general dentist), and ask for 'conscious sedation'. You will be asleep and unaware, but not intubated-the medication is given by an IV in your arm. They still give you local anaesthetic as well, which in addition to pain control, suppresses bleeding. After you heal from the extractions, you can get your fillings done by a general dentist. Tell him or her that you do not get good pain control from local anaesthetic, and they will either try a different local, or can refer you to a dentist who is trained in conscious sedation to do your fillings. Don't suffer needlessly through these procedures-don't hesitate to advocate for yourself. You will inspire others to take care of their oral health too.

I take quite a few medications & I would forget to take them & I would even forget if I took them. I started using a caddy as well. I also set several alarms to remind me to take my meds. If they are not in the caddy then I know I took them. I hope you are able to stick with all of your goals!!

Hey Maggie. You might want to look into Hero. Is a medication management system. You load your meds into the machine and it uses a screen on the machine and a phone app where you can make schedules and it will light up and remind you. Then when you are ready it will dispense the right set of pills. It has helped me so much. And it warms you when a med is getting low so you know when to refill

Oral Surgeons are awesome !!! So much better than a regular dentist I had my wisdom out in my 60’s and I was sedated being sedated is the best!! You are not alone my daughter could not get numb either … You will be much better with an oral surgeon believe me and I am so anxious with the dentist

Getting the wisdom teeth out is not to bad. They put you under so there should not be felt. Nitrous oxide for fillings helps. I’m doing Invisalign now and it’s easy and I’m loving the results. They also have two grades on nova cane I get the stronger one. Glad to see you looking so well. Love you guys. California Joanna

    My health goals this year are fairly simple. I have depression and 2021-2022 were some extra sh*tty years regarding that, some things went down and I had/have some health issues which made me spiral a bit. So, addressing myself, my goals are;
    - Get into a normal routine. Don’t wake up between 2-4pm and pretend that’s normal lol
    - Take better care of yourself and your body. Shower more often, use more natural soaps and hygiene products, switch your toothbrush more often, use a good moisturizer
    - Go to the dentist when you need to, don’t wait until your teeth are literally falling apart
    - Eat food, preferably more than once a day. I felt so much better and even lost some weight when I ate 3 times a day, I want to get back to that.
    - Don’t just suffer through pain. I need to be okay with taking painkillers, for some reason I beat myself up when I do, thinking I’m weak or childish for not being able to take the pain.
    - Go to your therapist appointments, even when you don’t feel like you need to. They aren’t always positive, sometimes they even make me feel worse, but it’s a safe space for me to talk openly and I need to stop internalizing and bottling up my emotions. Also, I need to remember my appointments are valid and me going to them does not take away time from people with ”real problems”.

Hello! Maybe you have endometriosis alongside adenomyosis? I had a hysterectomy about 3 months ago due to adeno (I also had stage 4 endo) - feeling SO MUCH BETTER. My pain was debilitating and constant. It seems you're not there yet, thankfully! The bladder pain is gone. The 9 to 12 day periods with crazzzy clots and bleeding obviously ended. To get to this point, I was constantly going to the ER and in daily excruciating pain. Many cysts, etc.
OMG, im desperate for the dentist for fillings, but so so petrified! I also had the sideways wisdom teeth issue! I had twilight sedation to get them out, they were impacting the teeth next to them. So painful!
I also have been dealing severe driving anxiety & I have recently been doing so well, I hope it continues for both of us! And that you can fulfill your health goals this year :)

    Hey Maggie,
I'm so happy you acknowledge an unhealthy relationship with food/weight. In the context of a medical condition it's not recognized and really doesn't fall under eating disorder but in the realm of mental health, especially trauma, such things are considered disordered eating and worthy of addressing but nobody ever talks about it...we need to!
Being a child who was born and grew up with a disability, in particular a wheelchair user with incontinence issues food and weight were huge parts of my childhood in an opposite way to you where it wasnt eat more gain more but watch your weight and the food you eat. While one could reasonably argue it isn't an eating disorder or possible to develop one as a result binging, purging, and misuse of laxatives were the result and all do fall under a way of coping/self injury/disordered eating.
Mary from the frey life uses a medication dispenser similar to how you sharps bin works, maybe look into it?

I'm with you on the dentist. I had one really bad experience as a child and it ruined it for me. I have had some nice dentists since but I still remember that bad one. I actually need to have all my teeth extracted and get dentures. I am not looking forward to it at all and keep putting it off. Between this and still dealing with my moms estate stuff, it's driving me nuts.

I have to see a nephrologist. I'm not looking forward to that.
I looked up adenomyosis and discovered that yes, heavy periods with clotting are symptoms! ("Sometimes, adenomyosis may cause heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, severe cramping, pain during intercourse, or blood clots that pass during a period.") The article said that it's caused by endometriosis tissue growing into the uterine wall. I have PCOS, so severe cramping was horrid. Thankfully, I had 2 children already and was able to have a hysterectomy in my late 20's.

I do my meal planning on Saturday for the week. Then we go grocery shopping on Sunday morning for the week. It makes things so much easier. I also try to incorporate a soup or stew in the week so that we can have at least 1 leftover during the week.

It is like my body collect fluids which makes me run to the toilet like crazy, i feel swollen at the time. but after my period I feel much better and my clothes doesn't sit so tight on me and i feel good. But MAN how I run to the toilet, sometimes I whish I had a catheter when that happens!

UGH the dentist, I have to go too. And because my teeth have always been sensitive and I have gum disease, I'm always paranoid that I have a ton of cavities (Only one tiny one so far), but who knows now. I thought getting insurance with dental coverage would motivate me; it didn't. Wisdom teeth weren't bad, but I was awake. I already have a therapy appointment because apparently, starting a new job will trigger a bunch of things you thought you had dealt with and throw them at your managers. I had to get a new therapist since my old one retired, so I'm just hoping it works.

I got all my wisdom teeth removed at the end of November. They were also growing sideways. At first it was scary, but now I don’t have any jaw pain.
One of my teeth was against a nerve, so I had a numb spot on my tongue for about a week. They also gave me some good painkillers for the pain.
A health goal for me (mental health goal) would be to see my psychologist more often and also figure out my diagnosis for autism.

Hi Maggie, Happy New Year to you, Zach & the Puppers 🎉 !!! I really liked this video hearing you talk about some of your goals. I especially love the idea about taking a different Pup 🐶 each week for an adventure, I'm sure they'd love it & obviously "Bruno" agreed. That was always the 1 thing that really brought me joy was taking my rescue Pups for a ride & to the local pet bakery. Sadly, due to progression of my chronic illnesses, I'm no longer able to drive or leave the house alone but my parents still take the Pups & I for shorter car rides, etc.
I too am not afraid of much medically, I've endured so many surgeries, injections, RFA's, etc but I do not feel that way about going to the dentist. I too, will avoid it for as long as possible!! I had always had really good dental health & had no cavities but unfortunately since starting an Biologic injection every 2wks for my mast cell disease, my teeth have went to junk & it's very frustrating. I wish my Immunologist would've pre-warned me of there being a chance this could happen before I started 5yrs ago. But yes, I share your fearfulness. I also have an extremely small mouth like you, had braces 2x as a teen & my Dentist thought removing my wisdom teeth would definitely help my crowding. I had it done at 24, they put me out & I would def recc'd that but it sadly didn't help my teeth. I too would like to have Invisalign or others but now I'm going to have to pay for regular dental work 1st thanks to my Biologic.
I wish you all the best in 2023 ,here's to a healthy & happy year...

Well I have the opposite problem with my weight. I was never able to lose the prednisone weight even though it’s been years later. I had a baby and she’s 14m now and still haven’t lost that weight either. My goal this year is to eat better and get to a healthy weight. My last dentist cracked my front tooth while filling it. I need to get that taken care of but I’m scared of Dentist now, I also have to get a root canal. My other goal is making sure/keeping my Crohns under control. We want to try for our second hopefully live birth in 2024. I miscarried our first baby. Hopefully I can achieve all of that this year.

My health goal is getting my right lower horizontally ttly impacted wisdom tooth out at some point soon but I have waited even longer than you. Probably about ten years!! The oral surgeon says they try to keep them in if at all possible these days but as i am having aching and the molar next to it is decaying so much then it should be removed. Actually he thinks it looks pretty close to the nerve and so they want to leave the root in!! Its called a coronectomy. I have to have all my dentistry done under iv sedation as I have the same issues as you do. Very sensitive teeth and gums. I'm really concerned about it though because I can't have nsaids so I will have to take the heavier stuff after that makes me sick. I worry about it getting infected because they are leaving it in. I have also heard people sometimes get TMJ issues after too. Ugh! Wish they had taken them out years ago when I was little!! Then maybe my brace would have worked too!! Wish you all the best for yours. xx

Maggie, I have must spent my life savings on just one tooth. Actually, as I live on Social Security and a $165/month pension I am officially poor and I don't have much savings. In fact, I'm not allowed to have more than $2,000 in savings or I lose Medicaid. Root canal is an endless procedure involving two different dentists and insurance that only paid $400 of the $1,500 it costs to save one tooth. Add fear and pain and hating drills in my mouth and I'm being painlessly tortured.
My only resolution this year is to be mindful about my health. I already am thrifty, neat and organized but I don't always eat my veggies, walk daily and I am reducing salt, so help me! I will eat less salt but I love food and I'm a good cook. Diabetes and high blood pressure have made me eat a healthy but boring diet.
Here's a hint. The pills have to stay where you eat breakfast in the morning, then where you brush your teeth in the night. They can't be out of sight. I eat breakfast with the morning news on the television. My pills are there every morning. I put them on a tray with my toothbrush and tooth paste when I brush my teeth at night so they are right there in front of me. So, here's how my bedtime routine goes: the first time I pee after dark I take the pills, the toothbrush, mouthwash, lip balm, my blood test kit for diabetes and put them on a tray. Before I go to sleep I have to empty the tray. The last tray emptying thing is to put my morning pills where I sit down for breakfast with my morning dental care stuff and my day planner. They have to slap me in the face or I forget them and my day goes to hell.
I relate to your health forgetfulness, and your dental horror. I wish you well.

In my late 30’s I got 3 of my Wisdom Teeth removed. And I did much like the recovery experience. So when it came to get my last remaining Wisdom Tooth removed I was apprehensive for 2 reasons. 1 being the previous experience ( Even though I was completely knocked out when the removal took place. So I felt not a thing during the actual procedure) and 2, I was in my early to mid 50’s. And as you age certain surgeries can come with complications. But it desperately needed to come out. And I don’t know why I worried. The Dental Surgeon who did it was amazing. He numbed my gum and surrounds brilliantly and it was over and done with within about 5-7 minutes ( my tooth was more than ready to be extracted) And this time I was given Way better advice on post-op care. Which made a big Big difference…… I had to take antibiotics before the procedure again because I suffered one time from Rheumatic Fever as a baby and that can affect you for the rest of your life when it comes to stuff like certain types of surgery…… But I haven’t had my teeth cleaned for over a year and that is definitely on my To Do List hopefully in the next month…… Dental stuff doesn’t only affect your mouth it can have some serious implications for one’s Heart Health. Due to plaque……… ⚛️☮️🌏

First - which planner did you get and from where? Leopards or anything cat related would have been my first choice as well! >^..^< 🐾🐾🐈‍⬛❤️‼️
The combination of monthly Stelara injections and a daily RINVOQ has helped the parastomal Pyoderma Gangrenosum ulcers that I have been battling since late 2021 (soon after I was given a loop ileostomy) to close and new skin to grow/cover the area. Now my main health goal this year is to have the abdominal surgery necessary to remove the Crohn’s related colovesical fistula, repair my bladder if needed, resect my colon, have my stoma moved (hopefully Squirt 💦 is as problem free in the new location) and have the large parastomal hernia repaired. Recovering from this surgery will take time, but hopefully will allow me to have better quality of life and get back to a more normal lifestyle..
The fistula has been hell. I was given a loop ileostomy to divert the fecal matter from going into my bladder. The fistula still caused spasms, pain high enough to cause me to lose consciousness and daily pain at a level that for the first time in my life I am on daily pain medication. It has also caused overactive bladder that I am medicating with Gentesa (which has helped) and frequent UTIs even though I am on daily antibiotics.
