- WATCH IN HD! The spyderco dragonfly salt (or all variants of the dragonfly) is well worthy of your pockets as an edc blade. Strong, light, sharp, ergonomic and moreover, functional, it just cuts so bloody well! Very hard to fault. 10/10.
stay safe out there people.

Finally, a review video of a knife where someone is actually demonstrating practical cutting with it. I appreciate it!
I bought a fully serrated h1 dragon fly and now its with me every day as a back up blade!!!
You sold me on this blade, going to carry it in my pocket for small tasks, along with a 4 inch tactical blade.
in england we can't carry a toothbrush in our pocket without getting arrested lol
Thanks for a great review!
It is *REALLY* great that you have actually USED the knife prior to reviewing it. Job well done.
Good demo, never tested a knife on a boot. My new dragonfly is on the way.
Now thats wat i call a cutting demo!
That´s true. I got a dragonfly H1 too, but with plain edge. And I have to admit that I have today a second thought on serrations cause of your video. Congrats bro.
Great review bud, refreshing to see a different approach ! just got myself the same thanks to you and love this blade for backup up north.
Just got mine today. Lovely little knife
Thanks for sharing. I agree about the usefulness of having a small pocket knife. Usually carry something a little bigger, like the Delica or Native5, but when cycling the Dragonfly is excellent (I have the vg10 version), you practically forget it is there in your shorts or jersey pocket but for most utility tasks the blade is sufficient. ( Just ordered an H1 version specifically for cycling or other outdoor activities as it is supposed to not rust at all!)
7 years later and can confirm that it's still awesome and hasn't rusted. The frame bolts are indeed stainless though, not H1 and may show light surface rust eventually.
@@warartco Now I am really looking forward to it being shipped! Thank you!
The Dragonfly is excellent! It still fits well in my hands for it's small size. I have the Foliage Green G10 version. Great review and demonstration man!
The knife is completely rust proof. The internals have been stated by Spyderco as "rust proof but not suitable for blade steel." Whether that means titanium or some other non treated alloy that is strong but not hardened for edge use.
Man, I like you reviewing style. Very informative but also entertaining. Nice
That was one salty boot! FYI, the H1 does rust but it takes a couple weeks of saltwater abuse (we use the Salt series as dive knives...they are the best).
I had the plain blade ZDP189 version. Used it for all kinds of things. Maybe mosed impressed by it when I cut down a few small trees about 5cm thick. Just a few cuts and they where down. And you really don't notice it in your pocket. And that was the end of my knife since it forgot it in my pocket and got it confiscated in airport security ... Just ordered a new one, this version this time.
where did you order yours from?
I got the ZDP from knifecenter and the Salt from lamnia.fi
A knife that is comfortable is a knife that will be carried and used
Like the video a lot man, great job! I've been looking into one of those, exact same model, serrations and everything, as a fishing knife. Thought it would be a great knife for cutting line, rope, small bait, etc.. and you've confirmed my suspicions. Thanks for the review, it was awesome
The internals and lock are also rust proof.
Nice video the screws and everything else are h1 steel
Fantastic video really liked it. How do you sharpen the blade?
looks like the only reason it took him a little longer on boot sole is the fact that the dragonfly has such a small blade. But man is that sharp!
SOLD!!! ima buy one now
Since H1 steel work hardens on serrated keeps edge well. G reat review , its all h1 steel even bolts wont rust on it . Personaly i prefer serrated (in any salt ) spyderco.
Loved the cutting demo! Good review, keep it up!
good job cutting to the chase, great job on the review and a great little knife
I know this video is shot 2 years ago, but in my experience, serrations on a blade won't rip up paper when you're cutting it. When I had my Civilian it was extremely sharp, it would even cut paper with me only holding the paper and not the knife itself. Anyways, good video man!! Definitely have to get one, just not sure if it's going to be the H1 version or the G-10 one :(
The Killer His Vanilla i know I'm a bit late on the comment, but I was wondering if it would be possible to get both and swap the H1 blade and other hardware over to the g10 version...
@snoozymoo exactly, a plain edge blade of this length could not cut through the boot, its for more delicate work but a FFG blade is equally good at cardboard, rope, cord etc as long as it is sharpened correctly.
@australiansurvival Thank you sir!! I'm definitely going with the H1 then!!! Nice review btw...surprised the views aren't higher because you really put this knife through the paces! :) Keep up the good work!
Man... You went to town on that boot! Great review!
Internals are H1 ore titainium
@RyanWittmannShow Thanks mate! Hard to say, both are quality steels. I would say H1 for rough, outdoor use (as shown in video) but for most light duty edc tasks, the edge retention and out of box sharpness you get with a spyderco in zdp-189 would be hard to beat.
great knife test and review, very practical test you have done!
Hi there.
Thank you for the meaningful image.
Cutting demo is great.
I thoroughly enjoyed that review
GREAT REVIEW! My DF2 is on the way.
Awesome Review!!! The H1 is pretty beast!! Would you recommend the ZDP or H1 if you could only get one?
Its nice but to small for me, endura for me. I agree with you and your views. I keep a endura and victorinox rescue.
Love this knife and love this review! Will be getting one as soon as I can, Thanks!
wow! i didn't see it if this df2 can do that!
btw cool presentation video mate!
hey buddy, as a aussie myself im wondering how you get your blades to australia, are there laws on shipping. thanks mate, cheers
Great review! I just got this knife and have no idea how to flip the clip, even though it may be a dumb question, how do you swap the clip?!?
i even carry my h1 salt in the shower in a custom kydex sheath arond neck with paracord , always can defend myself . am i paranoid or what?
wow does it cut these stuff like rope, boot so well because its a serrated blade? will a FFG blade cuts the same?
Sold
Damn, now this is a knife review!
@jhigu i order everything from the states, less than $1000 per order to avoid duty and gst, no autos, assisters, flick, gravity, butterfly or just about anything cool, nothing too tactical (although my para 2 got through ok) nothing double edged or designed to be concealed. That is a very short (of what is actually very long list) of things that are prohibited, my spydies all get through ok, but rumour is laws will be re-interpreted soon to include anything that can be opened one handed.cheers
@australiansurvival sweet cutting demo and gives me a little more confidence as to the durability of this baby lol..i like the shape of this blade but they're too damn short for self defense in or out of the water!. 3/4 to an inch longer would be perfect as well as justifying the price they want for it. now i know most think of this just for utility and i'd use it for that too but when i go swimming in the ocean i'd like to know i'm covered just in case...good on ya bro.
@tasteegold7772 thanks for watching, carrying a blade for the purpose of self defense is totally illegal in australia, so i rarely think about that capability lol, especially for a folding knife.
I doubt you could have cut that boot as easily without the serrations. YUP just bought the same knife. still keeping my other dragonflys but needed that extra nudge to get the serrated.
all internal components are apparently H1. as far as i have found out the whole knife is completely rust proof that is a great knife i have the ladybug in H1 the baby sister.
@COLT45keith Thanks for your support, glad you emjoyed the vid, stay tuned :)
Damn man, when I watch a cut demo, I come to expect the same old demonstrations. Then you cut a boot in half haha
@darkchild57 thanks mate... the zdp189 version plain edge is on my list to get, The H1 spyderedge has its merits though :)
Do they come with torx screws now ? I thought it was in construction
@han0509 not really , i live close to a gulf course . i just believe anytime you can need gun or a blade .
Fantastic video mate, make more! :)
How strong is the knife?
5:06 Mate your dog is being killed by a puppy-sized spider in the background.
Great review!!!!!!
@glock2026 thanks for your support :)
@hoodninja666 thanks, stay tuned!
That thing is a mini saw...
@athrunmoon you wont be disappointed!
The real question raised by this video is who needs 216 ziplock bags
Umm... Was your dog getting eaten by a zombie?
5:24 Your shoes are untied :-P good review!
@snoozymoo thanks :)
Your shoes are untied!
It remains to be asked why you have a hangman's noose lying around. xD
and not a single shoe was ripped that day
Thumbs up just cause you ripped a shoe lol
@COLT45keith damn straight!
o no not serrations
@han0509 i am just a paranoid person from u.s.a.
