Nev did an excellent job on this dance as well as Paso Doble.

Jenna has this timeless quality to her face where she can adjust her hairstyle and make up and she looks like she's in another era, as she did here for this nod to the classic Singing In The Rain.
I do agree the dance didn't pack the punch and to be honest, I felt that way about Derek's and Bethany's dance to this song. For me, a dance to this song is more of a solo dance like it was in the movie. It was Gene Kelly being so happy and carefree that he was just dancing through the street in the rain and when it's a couple's dance, it's not as carefree imo.
But I still liked it. I liked all their dances.
Definitely my favorite performance from Nev😍
It was a great dance, but to me it didn't feel like a freestyle finale performance. To me it felt like a regular jazz routine that could have been on any episode.
I completely agree with this! Like yes good dance and cute BUT not a freestyle that will win you the mirror ball.
Agreed! The beginning portion just looked like steps that a non ballroom dancer could have picked up. It didn't do him justice. Kind of reminded me quality-wise (although this was better ) of Jenna's freestyle with Adam Rippon, which didn't represent all that he was and the culmination of his season.
@@jean-nee8972 that freestyle honestly she had lucky that in season 26 the majority of people was voting for adam, bcs after that freestyle (so badly and with the cultural appropriation theme)Josh and even tonya had a better chance to win.

@@jean-nee8972 well it was a short season, adam practically had the fanbase for the olympics winning and all of that. And Jenna had all Val/Maks and Peta fanbase votes (bcs they were on tour and always promotional them). Just lucky
Nev and Jenna were obviously incredible, but I personally felt like Kaitlyn and Artem had more of a story that resonated with the audience.
You can never top Meryl and Maks. Never ever ever. Best season ever
Never been a better season! I still watch the dances. Love me some Meryl (never heard of her before). Their storytelling was off the charts!!!!!
There were a couple dances with Maks and Mel B that were AMAZING

Please don’t get it twisted, Carrie Ann only said it was in her “Top 3 favorite dances” she never said “Top 3 best” ! That’s like anyone saying “That’s in my top 3 favorite songs or food!” THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. You can’t just tell someone what should or shouldn’t be in their favorites list!
The right couple won. Your brother commented that he didn't remember any of the dances that Artem & Kaitlyn performed. I find that hard to believe. Kaitlyn's Waltz was full of grace and elegance as well as her Foxtrot. Nev had a serious problem with his hold and posture during his dances. She danced beautifully. Come on guys! Are you really serious?

The thing is when you strip away technique and even when you don’t to an extent... the untrained audience members vote on who they connect with or simply who they like...and while to many people Kaitlyn didn’t have that “something” to me she did, but in a way that wasn’t obvious and a way that showed struggle.
As for CAI comment that is her opinion, I don’t always agree with her and I’m not sure I agree with this comment , even though I have loved watching Kaitlyn...but she is entitled to this opinion. I also really doubt that a huge amount of people decided to vote for Kaitlyn over Nev based on Carrie Anne comment...maybe, maybe if Derek had said it. And if you think her comment swayed people that much, than all the times judges have said something equally “crazy” have swayed audiences and is just part of the show.
Also, even if Nev was the best dancer that doesn’t mean he is going to win or should win. This show is about way more than who is the best over all dancer.
This freestyle could’ve been better, it wasn’t that memorable compared to Kaitlyn & Artem! Their freestyle screamed “DWTS SEASON 29 WINNERS!” And like Val said, it was the best dance of the season!
I’m pretty sure Val said that it was their best dance of the season and they should have brought earlier.
Lol she said it was in her own top favorite dances, not claiming it was in the best of all time category in general. I rly think bachelor nation came through for Kaitlyn and Artem regardless of any comments. Just saying 🤷🏻♀️
And Artem has the Bella Army behind him as well. It would have been hard to beat those votes.
I agree with what maks said.. when I saw this freestyle I thought it was a regular dance not like Kaitlyn,nelly and jastina's freestyles.. if it was another routine I think he would have won the mirrorball trophy .. I love nev so much but this is the truth
TRUTH, Maks!!! All of it.
Nev and Jenna's freestyle was underwhelming compared to their Paso Doble. Also, very difficult to do a freestyle based on the dance number done by iconic dancer Gene Kelly. People associate Signin in the Rain to Gene Kelly, so Nev and Jenna weren't only in competition with the couples on the show but also with competition with the iconic Gene Kelly's dance number Singin in the Rain which is what this freestyle was inspired by.
I hope what I am about to say doesn't come out sounding rhymes with "witch" with what I am about to say, but for any pro to come out with a freestyle for their celebrity I would suggest staying away from iconic dancers and dance numbers that they did in movies or television shows because some people are not only going to compare them to the couples on the show but also compare whom the freestyle number was inspired by. In this case it was based on the dancer number originally done by Gene Kelly. So essentially Nev was up against Gene Kelly, Kaitlyn, Nelly, and Justina in which some people were comparing the Freestyle dances on.

I don't even take Carrie Anne serious when she says that stuff. She says that EVERY finale. Literally every one. "This is the most competitive top 4" . Sis you've said that since Season 20.
They did great this season! I thought they would have won or Justina and Sasha. They all did great. This dance was coo
I might be wrong but I didn't think that Carrie Ann said that the Argentine Tango was the top 3 best. I thought she said it was in her top 3 faves. That is her opinion and therefore valid no matter what anyone else thinks. She is there to give her opinion as a judge. She was also very harsh on Kaitlyn at times. I highly doubt that comment decided how the audience would vote and was certainly not wrong of her to say. It's kinda weird to comment on what you've "heard" and not actually watch the show to see the actual moment. Just watch the show Maks, it detracts from your commentary when you don't know exactly what happened but talk about it anyway.
Totally agree. It was her opinion and she even put it up on her blog with her other favorite dances. Anyone can create their favorite dance list. The only 2 dances I watch back from this season is Kaitlyn's AT and freestyle. The other dances I won't remember.
i agree that this dance was kinda off, however that in no way takes anything away from Nev's season and the fact that he should've been the winner... he was the winner all along
Maks that is her opinion. Carrie Ann is allowed to love that dance and put in her top 3. Just like this is your show and you have your opinion. I didn't think in my opinion that It was but again that is her opinion.
I agree with this. Even though I absolutely disagree with Carrie Ann but to criticize her this much is a bit out of line. Opinions are opinions. IMO Meryl‘s AT with Val is actually the best AT of all time, followed by her AT with Maks in the finals. So I’m a huge fan but I don’t know what to feel about this.
To blame Kaitlyn‘s win on Carrie Ann‘s comment isn’t right, because Kaitlyn came in with a significantly bigger fanbase. So in a case of tie, she has a huge advantage right off the bat.
Agreed! It’s not his place to decide what her personal favorite dances are. Whether he liked it or not is fine but not his right to decide what her favorite dance is
@@najeebward9888 my fave AT was Val and Laurie. Then Meryl and Val. I personally liked Artem and Nikki's AT better than Meryl and Maks. But again my opinion.
@@najeebward9888 and yes it had nothing to do with CAI comment and everything to do with Nev and Jenna blowing the freestyle. Was it good yeah but it wasn't the best.
@@bethanyjohnson9800 Tbh I also felt it borrowed a lot of elements we’ve seen in dances to “singing in the rain”. Not only that but it basically copied Milo and Witney’s Freestyles in S27. So the not so great Freestyle paired with recycled choreo just wasn’t a good look.
Edit: Btw I think Jenna delivered amazing choreo this season: contemporary (best contemp of the season), Paso Doble are highlights that come to mind. But the Freestyle was just not at the same level.
The beginning was just slow for me. I agree that once the raincoats came off it got much better. I also didn’t really get or like the lifting up in the end. It didn’t show off Nev’s talents.
I thought they were the best through out the season. But you nailed it on their freestyle. But the Bachelor nation has a huge voting block. As far as Kaitlyn's Argentine tango everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it is not even in my top 10 favorites.

People expect the freestyle to have music that makes you want to get up and dance (up tempo) and a unique unexpected sequence. That seems to be the formula. Neve was more consistent throughout the season, but they always remember the last dance. By the way, the voting system needs to change. Best thing about DWTS this year was Maks' analyses. Btw.. Carrie-Ann's comment was not true. Not top 3 ever. Maybe it was Kaitlyn's top 3.
A lot of people were upset that this freestyle was “a copy of Witney and Milo’s freestyle” and I think people thought that because they both used the water. I don’t think it was copying because they were completely different styles. I do agree this wasn’t his best dance, but I do think it was cute. Justina probably had my favorite freestyle. KB really just kind of bored me all season.. she was missing something from her performances. I had a hard time understanding Nev getting picked on for using water like Milo’s freestyle, yet KB used canes just like Riker, Alfonso, Jordan, etc.; I really wanted Nev or Justina to take the mirror ball, but they can’t really compete with the Bachelor Nation and Bella Army. I think the judges need to have more input on the finals. It’s a popularity contest and it really just irritates me. I don’t think I’m going to be watching the show next season, but I will for sure watch Maks review them!
And which pro uses before for a freestyle the rain idea. Maybe it's ok for the part when they're on the air. But the steps when the rain start were similar to Milo freestyle and that's why people notice and feel it the same. Also milo freestyle was the only who had the rain idea (for freestyle) and that makes it memorable
I just wish Jenna had done something way more fun like something that was more experimental and weird. Just like something that would blow us away. We know Nev can dance but I wanted my mind to be blown.
I think the comments Carrie Anne made in previous shows about Kaitlyn are what influenced people to vote for her because CAI really seemed to make it personal towards Kaitlyn. I know there are a lot of us who are frustrated with CAI for her disdain towards the Bachelorettes in addition to Artem's partners. CAI motivated people to fight back for Kaitlyn imo.
It is known i don't care for Nev but after viewing the freestyle I knew he was gonna lose.
Even Sh*rna in her close friends (at the dress rehearsals) said that her TOP2 freestyles were Kaitlyn and Justina

i think what maks was taking issue with wasn't necessarily that carrie ann had an opinion about her top 3 favorite dances/what she thought was a top 3 dance, but that by saying it she really strongly sways the vote of an undecided, most likely not dance-trained viewer. if she's saying that as a judge, any undecided viewer is immediately going to trust her opinion rather than coming to their own, independent decision based on the performances that they saw.
but the public's votes rarely align with judges comments so it's a bit off base to act like Carrie Ann saying something is her favorite is going to sway enough undecided voters to impact the final results--the viewing audience's experience is not the same as the judges, I've absolutely loved dances and then the judges have ripped them apart and contestants that are flat out not great dancers have made it even when the judges clearly aren't happy about it. and considering that was the second time Kaitlynn was doing the AT I doubt that someones opinion of whether they liked it or not would be swayed by CA comments instead of their own feelings watching the dance. you don't have to know technical elements the judges are looking at to decide you like something or not.
This was very similar to Witney and Milo's final...... hmmm

Yessss thank you for saying that about that argentine tango being Carrie Ann's top 3 not making annnny sense. I thought that, and then felt like am I missing something? So yes, judge's comments absolutely sway people, as much as I didn't think so before. It made me question my own opinion of being underwhelmed by it.
Hope this wasn't what costed him the MBT. Yeah I didn't really like it.

Yeah, Carrie Ann uses superlatives almost every season, so they take away the weight of the compliments, or they exaggerate how good the dances really are.

Maks! I'll say it again. DWTS would be SUCH a better show if you were judging on it. Your commentary is insightful, and compelling. Also, I miss your season with Meryl. It was so great. ALL of those dances were better than anything Kaitlyn did this season (no offense, Kaitlyn). But it's true. And this gimmicky Freestyle bummed me out, when it seemed like Nev could do so much more. Please be a judge next time!
Who even listens to Carrie Ann anymore? She makes hyperbolic statements every episode, no one cares.
Also, I think freestyles had much more impact when there was more time to vote later on. With this format, just 5 minutes to vote after the freestyle round? I don't think these matter much anymore. Kaitlyn must be winning regardless of her or Nev's freestyles.
I also think Nev didn't connect to people much. I always felt he was putting up a face and a show, but never was vulnerable or human. Him hiding his dance experience might have painted him even more of am impersonator. Kaitlyn was better in her journey and her impression on viewers, Justina and Skai were the best there and most naturally relatable.

The problem is you are never going to compare to Gene Kelly, and the part in the rain just lacked impact. It wasn't a great freestyle, even though he's a great dancer.
